At the end of the day MLP is a cartoon aimed at kids in the U.S. (or, more broadly, at Western countries) and as such has to be relatable to them, including in slang and the like.
I do think, however, it's done an admirable job of conveying a recognizable society, yet one where sentient ponies, magic, and fantastic creatures exist. Or example, holidays and life milestones that seem plausible within their world, but we could imagine ourselves celebrating something similar.

Vancouver has only been destroyed when it's been standing in for another city getting destroyed. I've never seen a film where they depicted, or even mentioned, Vancouver getting flattened.

Star Trek, really is the last time i think a tv show did something like this. Only "roddenberry" got booted off the project pretty quick in this case. Which isn't helping my confidence in G5. I keep wishing for a "next generation" approach instead of a reboot. Instead we could get a "classic vs j.j. abrams" level of fandom disaster if G5 ends up being pure mindless entertainment with little substance.
It could also be a case of "classic vs. Ronald Moore" scenario. I wasn't thrilled with what I saw prior to the reboot of Battlestar Galactica, but it lasted longer than the original, by far.

It's been eight years. Tastes change, things come and go. I think a lot of bronies are still bronies, they may just not interact with others as much.
In short, bronies will become animation's equivalent of Trekkies. In the background, but never gone.

Canadian here. Used to live in Victoria, BC, where Canada's primary Pacific naval base is located. My father was an officer in the Navy and a number of my friends either were or still are in the Forces, some of whom saw postings on ships patrolling the Persian Gulf.

I prefer to read on paper. I do, however, recognize the value of digital text in keeping some works available in an inexpensive format.

I saw what dropped at Comic Con. The answer is: wait for it.

Sorry for the long delay. Busy times at work. Your go.

Applejack hurried as fast as her three uninjured legs could go while helping Trixie back into the shelter of the airship's hull. She winced as Trixie almost pitifully said how much she was trying in spite of her injured head. "I know ya are, Sugar Cube," she told her, trying to be soothing. "Y'all did good, but I need one more thing from you," she added.
"I need you to lift me up, so I can nail in some of these planks and keep the wind out." she said quickly. "And then we can thread the balloon in as well, just to make sure. Can ya do it?"she said, voice with a touch of desperation in it by now as she glanced over her shoulder at the approaching storm.

I suspect he was simply named Macintosh, same as his cousin is simply Braeburn. As an infant they would hardly have been able to tell he'd grow extraordinarily large, so I think "Big" came later as a nickname.

The only times I go into a church is if a friend or family member is having some sort of major life event occur in a church. Last time I set foot in a church was the funeral of a friend's father. Otherwise, being an atheist, I don't go.

They're wearing underwear. Specially designed ginch that matches their coat colour exactly without risking any sudden immodesty by a carelessly swished tail in the middle of important social gatherings.
Ginch. Pony ginch.

Well, last year Season 6 didn't come out until Season 7 was done, so I guess this is an improvement.

Getting there, perhaps, but I still prefer having my media on some sort of disc rather than on some other type of storage. I've had too many instances of it going "poof" in the past for me not to want a physical copy.

No doubt about who that is. I'm surprised they didn't try to slip that in sooner.

Perhaps it will be offset by the encouragement that comes from the excitement of being able to possess an account such as this one that somepony might be able to use during Roleplay.
PLUS POSTING AS LUNA IN THE CANTERLOT VOICE IS AMAZING FUN!
Seems to take the roleplayer out of the equation. I liked being recognized as the roleplayer of Applejack. Now it's near-anonymous.

1. Posts per week.
2. That's unfortunate. It will discourage some.
3. Both.

Well, I gave my two cents' worth on EqE roleplay over a year ago, but to reiterate:
1. Lift the minimum posting requirement for cast characters. It's supposed to be fun, not a chore.
2. Allow more than one person to play a cast character at a time.
3. Drop the requirement for a picture of a character when applying.

What happened to anime in the past?
in Media Discussion
I think imported anime has sunk to the level of the lowest common denominator of audiences. I'm going to date myself here, but my first experience with imported anime was Space Cruiser Yamato, which aired in North America as Star Blazers. It was unlike any other cartoon I had ever seen as a boy. There was a continuing storyline, not just a plot of evil villain gets thwarted and then a new scheme is hatched next week. Characters had complex motives. The "bad guy" was acting to save his people. And characters (gasp) died!
The problem is the perceived need in North America to sanitize life for kids. And while happy stories for children have their place, we shouldn't shy away from the heavy, grey area topics that make a good epic, and indeed, make up life.
