  1. Cats are great. They've all got distinct personalities of their own. My parents and I have 3 cats. 2 of them are allowed to roam the neighborhood on their own during the day (at night all of them are either put in the garage or in the basement); the other one is too much of a house cat to let roam, as she'd probably not be able to come back on her own.

This is Louie. He's a very active cat. He begs for attention whenever he's near humans. He's quite talkative, too. He can be a bit of a hunter sometimes, and occasionally brings home dead rodents. But what can you do, it's just in his nature to do that.

    96c87eb586.jpg

This is Nikki. She's the lazy house cat. My mom and I like to joke that Nikki "feels entitled" because whenever we let her in the house, she either goes straight to couch, or to the bed. Bad thing is, she's the worst shedder of the 3 cats and she leaves behind globs of hair.

We have one other cat, Kali, but I don't have a picture of her. She's a very timid cat. She is also the smallest of our cats. She's great at hiding, too.

  2. Kinda hoping we get sage Luna soon too, now that she should have finally broken free of her guilt.

Indeed. Considering the episode where she helped the CMC through their dreams about fearing what their cutie marks would be a while back, I think can think of an awesome appropriate usage of sage Luna... If we could get an episode where she helps the Manehattan crusaders branch (which would also be an opportunity to have Babs in the episode), it could lead into a later episode where the CMC and the Manehattan crusaders meet up. I guess that sounds a bit convoluted but, nonetheless, I'd like that.

"[...]Twilight Sparkle agonizes over Starlight Glimmer’s future and receives some much-needed advice from her very own mentor – Princess Celestia."[...]

Woohoo! It's been a while since Twilight has actually gotten some advice from her sensei! Of course, I still yearn for more input from Luna in the show, but I'll take what I can get.

    :sunbutt: Get Hyped  :orly:

Also, am I the only one noticing the irony in premature criticism of being critically premature? :wau:

Oh I noticed, too. But I mean, hasn't that always happened after a premiere teaser airs? It's kind of a routine thing by now.

  4. @@Hierok, nice 5 and a half year old thread bump. Ah, I remember when I used to bump old threads...

I don't think we need 5 new male characters, however I would enjoy seeing current male characters have more appearances (*cough* Braeburn *cough*) in the show. Although I could do without seeing Zephyr ever again.

  5. I have a love/hate relationship with cliffhangers. If it's pulled off correctly in such a manner where it gives a bit of a lead, but no definitive direction, and there soon will be a next season starting right off from that point, then alright, that's okay.

But if there's a cliffhanger at the end of an anime that will not be having a second/next season for a long time (if at all), it really gets me peeved.

I'm looking at you, Rokka no Yuusha! It fucking literally ended on a cliffhanger. I mean, they were actually looking off a cliff, no joke, at the end of the final episode.

  6. While of course all of the Mane 6 are equally best friends of each other, I was just wondering what the 3 closest friend pairings between them would be. This is probably more of a subjective question, as there could be many logical sets of best friend pairings - but I'm asking which makes the most sense to you all.

    ---

    Here's what I think:

Applejack and Rarity - Although they sometimes clash, they always make up in the end. They were brought together very early in the show with the sleepover at Twilight's. And throughout the duration of the show they've had many times together as a duo, using their differences (and setting aside their stubbornness) to come together in the end to make ends meet in a manner that can suit either's needs. Furthermore, they are both dedicated to sticking to tradition, despite each others traditions being different. I would call them the duo of traditions.

Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash - Another perfect example of seemingly clashing personalities that wind up actually bettering each other in the end. Both ponies are also definitely the most immature ponies of the bunch (though I don't mean that in a bad way). The best example of this is how they both love pranks. Furthermore, these two ponies are the quickest to show overboard kinds of emotion (hyperness, happiness, intenseness, and so on).  Plus, when it comes to partying, although they have their own styles of doing it, they both party the hardest and get crunk. I would call them the duo of energy.

Twilight and Fluttershy - In this case, rather than like the two above where conflicting personalities ironically combine to make a perfect duo, Twilight and Fluttershy share complimentary personality types.  When things are going good and swell, both ponies are calm and collected, and seem to show the emotion of being content. When duty calls but there is no apparent danger, they progress and run at a medium, focused pace. But, when things are going wrong, both ponies seem to be the first to crack - they go nuts and can't figure out what to do until somepony else can calm them down and get them back to their wits. I would call them the duo of geeks.

  7. It had been a while since I'd watched the show, so I recently watched a few episodes. I just re-watched this episode, and there's one thing I wanted to bring up here...

I didn't feel it as much this time, but I remember the first time I watched this episode, I got a bit emotional when it showed Scootaloo being able to fly in their mashed together dream.  I'm not sure how to describe it, but it's like a mixture of sadness and happiness at the same time. The realization that she's able to fly in her dreams and be so happy about it, you know. It's just something to kind of think about.

  8. I live in the Midwest, specifically in central Illinois. One of the quirkiest parts of our culture would have to be our lawn mower poker runs. Now, here is the definition of a standard poker run:

"A poker run is an organized event where participants, usually using motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, boats, snowmobiles, horses, on foot or other means of transportation, must visit five to seven checkpoints, drawing a playing card at each one. The object is to have the best poker hand at the end of the run. Having the best hand and winning is purely a matter of chance. The event has a time limit, however the individual participants are not timed."

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poker_run

Now, with that in mind, replace all those vehicles with only riding lawn mowers.

In our town, once everyone has picked up all their cards, they ride uptown to one of our bars, and find who has the best hand. Then there's usually some kind of auction held, as per usual in a small rural town. Of course, during and following the event, there is usually a lot of drinking.

I've never taken part in them before, but my father has.  :muffins:

  9. I should clarify beforehand that I am typically a diehard rocker (at least, currently).  However, I was born in '94 and grew up listening to pop music from when I was 2 through 10 years old. So, I am one of the types who follow the "pop music was better in the late 90s and early 00s" belief.

    Anyway, to the point:

I just listened to Christina Aguilera's "Genie in a Bottle" - then directly after, listened to Dove Cameron's cover.

I find both of them to be excellent.  Normally I see [pop] covers to be bad, or worse than their originals. But in this case I don't feel that way. Now I don't see the cover as better, of course, but just equally unique and good in its own way.

    Original:

  10. I'm not much of a cupcake guy - unless, that is, there is also vanilla ice cream. In that case, I like to mix the cupcake into the ice cream (in a bowl), just blending it in by hand with my spoon. It sounds weird, but I just like the texture of it.

  11. I think it's the fascination for people, that some things in this world might not at up. Most of these people are bored out of their skull and then read this kinda stuff on the internet, without checking that this theory might be wrong and some of them seem to not be able to look over their own fence.

It's the same with people who believe that Lizard people take over the world.

I really think this whole idea of a flat Earth gained most of its momentum from this wave of anti-establishment thought that's been going around lately. Between poor economic situations, scandals, corruption, and a perceived disconnect between those in power and those they rule, a lot of people the world over are starting to really question their governments. And that's cool, I'm totally for that, to a reasonable extent at least. When you stop questioning your government that's usually when the wacky shit starts happening. Y'know, the totally uncool "6 million people killed" kinda stuff?

Anyway, I think the problem is that, at least in some people, this mistrust has started to spread to other large groups that are also seen to be filled with the "elite" like corporations (which I guess I'm also kinda okay with), higher education, the scientific community, and others. I'm not saying that all these groups are squeaky clean, or that NASA doesn't have a secret agenda for world domination, but for Christ's sake have none of these people ever had the window seat on an airplane? I mean, it simply astounds me. What could anyone possibly have to gain from tricking the whole world about the shape of the Earth other than going down as having pulled the largest, most elaborate prank of all time? That's the problem with these people. Sure, they're questioning the establishment, but they're just asking really stupid questions to the wrong people.

    [/rant]

I think that it's a mixture of both of your stances. Like Mesme Rise stated, some of the folks may have found this fascination due to boredom, and are keeping to it for the sake of [lack of] stimulation [from anything else]. Whether or not they actually believe it, or "don't necessarily not believe it" is up for grabs, if you catch my drift. On the other hand, as wildstar has stated, some may have come out of this new wave of anti-establishment. I'd like to think that there's a greater chance that those folks are more likely to actually, truly believe in the conspiracy than the folks who found the theory out of boredom/fascination.

Regardless, I find it entertaining in an odd manner. Of course I know it's a bunch of bologna, but sometimes I like to see if they have said anything new that is even crazier out of ironic curiosity. The best thing I've come across yet is that they think there is land outside the poles and such. Hidden land. Lmao, it's hilarious.

I just want to start this over.
    Why can't we drink forever?
I just want to start this over.

I will find a center in you,
I will chew it up and leave,
I will work to elevate you,
Just enough to bring you down.

But in the end, I think we should be able to agree that we both are *American* vehicle enthusiasts, you know what I mean?

  14. "Darude - Sandstorm."

Can't ask anything anymore without getting that stupid, pointless response from some (failure of a) troll.

Okay, so, I have not read into this thread any further than your comment, so if anyone else has replied to you in the same manner as I am going to, sorry. But, I do doubt that will be the case.

I do agree that the false joking of commenting that song name is dumb.  BUT.  The point of me replying to you is this: I want you, and everyone else, to know that Finland's 2017 New Year's celebration *LITERALLY* opened with Darude - Sandstorm... AND it was the fucking best thing ever, I swear on my life.

  15. This question was one of the common questions asked in the slightly recent phenomena called the "accent challenge," but it was the most interesting question to me... And the reason is that I've never seen anyone answer the way my parents and I refer to the device.

My parents and I refer to this device as "the switch" like, "hey can you pass the [tv] switch" most of the time.

So, where are you from, and what term do you use to refer to this device? (We're from central Illinois)

  16. Here is a phrase I often here in gaming communities that I absolutely HATE: "Git gud"

Lmao. I totally get why you would say that. But I also feel like context matters here, in that, I don't find it to be a problem when said between friends just kidding around. My townhouse-roommate (which is basically my best friend at college) says "git gud mate" to me sometimes (irl) and I find it humorous. So yeah, I think between friends saying it in jest is okay. But I can see why one would get mad when the other person isn't saying it in a friendly or ironic manner, but rather implying that you are bad or something is bad.

Another phrase/series of phrases that I really can't stand would be when someone uses Objectively/Factually wrong.

Oh my goodness, it's ridiculous when people use the word "objectively" in an incorrect way. Like... "This is objectively the worst episode." No, just, please stop it. You don't have the authority to say that. Hell, Lauren Faust doesn't even have the fucking authority to say that an episode is "objectively" the worst or best episode.

  17. My parents used to know who I really was, at least to a well-established extent through my high school years.

Ever since going to college I have slowly changed over the years. Of course, the obvious things I have admitted, and thus they know the little changes. But in all reality, the amount I've changed over these three and a half years (since leaving HS and going through college) is more than they (my parents) really, actually know. (I'm in my first semester of my senior year of college now, just btw).

I used to be a very different person. I was a very Conservative Christian up through and until the end of high school. I use capitalized C's there for a purpose.

Enter my changes as a person over the past 3.5 years:

I'm still a Christian, but not as much of a *hardcore* United Methodist Christian as I used to be.
(Just FYI, to any atheists: you do you, I'm not gonna bother you. And that will tie into what I'll be saying shortly.)

I have realized after coming to this university that there's more to life than what I was able to see and reconcile with in such my small town of only 2500 people.

When I came to college the culture shock I endured rippled me to the core. I didn't know what to think. But it didn't take long before I was comfortable with where I was and who I was around; their differing cultures and opinions... no matter if it was religious or political...

I won't lie, though - my freshman year, and even the start of my sophomore year, I did stick pretty freakin' diehard to my prior beliefs.  But soon I found out that doing so only caused me a hindrance to my journey in university, and even a little hindrance to my grades in some cases (in such cases, politically not religiously).

    ---

I've changed over the years.  Of course I indeed blamed 50% of it on the fact that the college I go to is a "Liberal Arts and Sciences University" - but, nevertheless... The other half I consciously, willingly changed.

I still undoubtedly believe in God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit (please just hold your tongue, atheists, as you'll understand in the next sentence). But I also learned how to stop looking down upon, or even just differently at those who didn't believe.  I learned to respect that other people were indeed entitled to their own beliefs and opinions.

Similarly in regards to politics, I started to actually listen to others instead of blocking it out.  And in doing so, I changed my political stances on many issues over the past few years.  I used to be a Conservative Republican, but I now refer to myself as a Libertarian.  Thus, I have Liberal social views now, but still hold most Conservative fiscal/monetary/tax/security/etc. views.  Buuut, enough politics.

Moving on, how else have I changed since coming to college?

Well, to state the insanely obvious: I became a brony!  Of course that was due to some weird circumstance/coincidence, but whatever. Plus I also got into anime. (My parents don't know either of these, lol).

Other than that I guess the rest of the changes I've gone through were just natural changes by getting a few years older.  I'm 22 now and am very different from my 18 year old self.

    ---

I'm honored to say that I enjoy the kind of changes I have gone through. Well, except for one thing...

I used to never procrastinate in high school.  But now, after 3 years of college, as a senior, it's pretty much all I do (procrastinate).  I kinda hate that.  Like, alot.  But shit happens.
