Chisel expected her to attempt to evade, but he didn't expect her to do it so effectively, jumping at the exact moment that she was about to strike and confusing him for those precious milliseconds he had to react to her counter.

Where did she- He started to think before he was struck on the back by her powerful hooves, literally interrupting his thoughts. He grunted in pain as a popping sound echoed through the cave. Luckily for him, she hadn't broken his spine, the pop was the sound of both of his shoulders becoming disconnected by the sudden force to his torso. Nevertheless, he wouldn't be doing much fighting after that.

Chisel landed on his chin with his front legs limply to the side, groaning in pain. "That isn't fair... You won with... a lucky guess?" He panted, clenching his teeth with each word because of the pain to his shoulders.

  2. Jade grunted as her leg was grabbed again by Chisel. It was quite a surprise to see a pony of his stature be so nimble!

She couldn't keep ducking and weaving forever; if she wanted to win, she'd have to land a hit. But she'd have to see where he was first!

And then she spotted the glow of the wooden piece in her muzzle. Chisel didn't seem to notice it, so how could she?

    ...what if...?

While she was lifted above Chisel, she spat the piece of hilt into the gap in the flap made by the stallion's saddlebag, before she was flung away. Using her wings, she rolled herself backward and skidded to a halt across the cave floor.

Chisel grunted in satisfaction after she was flung onto the stone floor. "Alright, I've stalled enough." He said as he scraped one hoof across the floor. He then began to charge at her while she was still down, leading with his left front shoulder, aiming to knock her out for good but staying silent.

  3. @@Unicorncob,

Chisel was too focused on his grappling techniques to notice what she was doing. When Jade tried to duck out of the way, he caught her yet again. He didn't even know she still had the piece, assuming she'd dropped it. "Not a bad attempt if I wasn't a master in grappling!" Chisel bragged. "I call this one the Banzai missle!" He hoisted her up with his dexteritous hooves and twirled her in a circle above his head before tossing her away onto the stone floor. "You just don't get it do you? This test is to weed out anyone without spirit awareness and you clearly don't have what it takes! Why don't you just stay down?"

  4. She couldn't explain it, but Jade could somehow sense where the sword piece was laying. Like she had some kind of spiritual connection to it.

However, what she needed to know was not where the shard was, but where Chisel was, and how to damage him.

Her instincts kicked in as she felt her opponent grip onto her leg, and she went for a rolling kick to loosen his grip and fly back up out of reach.

    (Long, busy weekend)

Chisel let go of her leg and instead readied himself to catch the leg she was kicking with. Knowing where her leg was, he was able to hook onto it and reverse it's momentum to trip her onto the stone ground. She felt that he was still wearing his saddle bag from before. Perhaps that could be used somehow.

The tip of the sword felt odd in her hoof. It gave her body a tingling sensation. She couldn't see in the darkness, but somehow she was able to make out the sword piece. She was sensing it. She knew it was on the ground before she picked it up. She had a connection to this object, and as long as it was close to her, she knew exactly where it was. Unfortunately, she needed to know where Chisel was, not the wooden shard. If she could just get one good hit on him, she should be able to win, but how could she hit him when he was invisible?

Chisel then sidestepped and attempted to grip one of her legs again like he had before.

Chisel evaded her attempted attack to his back. While Jade was fighting in pitch black darkness, Chisel had something greater than sight. His artificial spirit awareness told him where she was even when he wasn't facing her, but it was a skill he gained from an artificial source; a skill that he had not mastered, but stolen.

After her miss, Jade felt a hard object touch her hoof that felt slightly softer than stone. It must have been wood, the broken tip of Feather's sword. Surely that had no use to her.

  7. (it's cool :o )

Jade tutted to herself as her hoof made contact with metal, sounding a clank.

A helmet. I should have known.

That must have been what he was putting on before the match.

Realising this, a smirk came over her. If his head was only guarded...

Using the momentum from her strike, she swung her bottom half over and slammed a hind hoof into Chisel's side.

Chisel grinned, but even if there was enough light to see him, the expression was covered by his mask. He hooked her leg as soon as it struck his barrel-chested side, locking it in place with his fetlocks. This was different than when the bounty hunter had grappled with her. The brute had been fighting blindly, using brute strength to win, but Chisel was precise. He knew exactly where she was.

He tightened his grip on her leg. The strength he possessed was impossible for the weak legs he had. Something else was enhancing him, though his muscles didn't feel like they were any bigger than the flabby limbs she'd seen before the fight.

"You like to fight with honor right? No cheating?" Chisel clarified as he broke his grip on her leg without harming her and stepped back. He tapped the side of his helmet, making a clanking noise. "Back before the Griffons were a bunch of unorganized brutes, they used to be brilliant engineers that made things like this helmet. I found it in a chasm and modified it to fit pony physiology, but even I don't know how to build one. It blocks off my sense of sight, smell, touch and taste completely and focuses the brain power on spiritual awareness. I can use that spiritual strength to see in the dark and give myself a boost of speed and strength. With the added benefit of not feeling pain, this fight might as well be a blind old mare against a stone golem! I'd suggest forfeiting right now. I didn't come here to kill, but I'm willing to do it if you stay in my way!"

  8. "Oof!" Jade gasped, the wind being knocked out of her with a blow to her stomach. It felt like a proper hoof...was Chisel not using his limb attachments?

    Then what was that noise...?

Using her instinct, and becoming more alert, she aerial dashed away from the strike and used the momentum to try delivering a blow of her own.

Perhaps she could see his secret if she got close enough.

    (Sorry again .3. )

Jade struck at where she best guessed Chisel to be. The strike was indirect, but she did make contact with his face. Unfortunately, his face was guarded by something made of thick metal, a helmet, perhaps. After the resounding clank, Chisel fell back to the ground, landing on all fours.

"Hmm, good guess. I suppose luck is on your side again." Chisel said. He tapped his helmet with his hoof, making an echoing clanking sound. "But I don't need luck when I have this."

  9. @@Unicorncob,

After beginning to hover, Jade felt a blunt pain to her stomach. The treasure hunter had struck her directly bellow her ribs with his front hoof, somehow knowing where she was. It didn't feel metallic at all. He must have not been using his leg attachments she saw earlier, raising the question of what he had brought with him.

He jumped, attempting to follow up with a strike to her head.

  10. @@Unicorncob, (Been studying for tests. Haven't forgotten about this.)

After the sound of a buckle tightening, Chisel spoke. Once again the echo of the cave made it very hard to find out where the voice was coming from.

"I know it was just dumb luck that got you this far. That bounty hunter had you beaten, and he couldn't even see in the dark!" Chisel taunted. Jade heard hoofsteps on stone. He was moving. "Of course, you can't either, can you? That's okay. Neither can I, but I can still see you."

Chisel seemed to be playing it cautiously. No doubt he knew about Jade's new ability, yet somehow he seemed very confident. He might have been waiting for Jade to do something, but he would surely strike if she just stood still.

  11. @@Unicorncob,

Chisel tossed aside one of the saddlebags but kept the other with him as he started to enter the pitch black fighting area. The bag made a metallic rustling sound as it hit the floor, but he seemed confident that no one would touch it while he was gone. As the two got to where they would be fighting, no longer able to see each other, Jade heard a series of quick rustling and metallic clicks.

  12. Jade tensed up when silence took over the air. She had a feeling Feather had won, but she could not be sure. It was too dark,

She smiled as the stallion emerged, seeing he was okay.

"Oh, good," she sighed in relief, then looked at his sword, "I knew you could do it! Though, your sword looks damaged."

    (Sorry. College is butts.)

"Yes, I'll have to fix it after I've won." Feather said, smiling at Jade after he looked at the sword. His expression quickly hardened. "Three suspects left. If any of the others were the creature, it would have transformed before it lost."

"If you're done talking..." The treasure hunter, Chisel said, standing behind Jade. He was either awkward or trying to intimidate her. Though he didn't have the kind of voice that one would find intimidating. He had too filled saddle bags on his back that looked like they'd be very cumbersome if he was taking them into the fight. "Jade, I'd like to begin."

  13. @@Unicorncob,

There was the sound of a few more strikes, then silence. Feather Weave stepped into view from the darkness. For some reason, Jade already knew he won before she saw him. His sword looked damaged. The top five percent of its length had broken off.

"Flash is fine. Don't worry." Feather whispered to Jade. He seemed exhausted.

After she collapsed, she bumped into something wooden that scraped against the stone floor. It was the tip of Feather's sword. Somehow it had broken off when he struck her earlier.

Both of the blasts created a booming impact, even denting the cave walls slightly. There wasn't much of a way to tell if she'd succeeded or not. It's not like she could see Feather. All she could see in the darkness was that blue aura. Wait, what blue aura? She had never seen that before. It was like a faint outline of Feather's body in the darkness. He wasn't using magic, but she could see a faint glow that revealed him in the pitch black darkness.

What had Tricis called this? Spirit awareness? Is this how some of the fighters were able to aim in the darkness so well?

Feather appeared to be standing, but leaning on his sword. He was wounded, but in better shape than she was! She finally had something to aim at. Too bad she had no energy left to fight with.

With a grunt, Feather hoisted his sword and charged at her with his silent hoofsteps.

  15. @@- Aethergem -,@@Unicorncob,

Feather quickly reacted by turning his wooden blade so that the broad side of it blocked her strike. She heard something snap. The tip few inches of his wooden blade snapped off and flew backwards before dropping on the cave floor. Feather then retreated backwards to where he could sense her but he was out of her sight.

I don't know how she dodged that. She shouldn't be able to sense me. No one develops that skill so quickly. No, it must have been luck. I'm confident she wont survive another flurry.

  16. @@- Aethergem -,

Feather didn't have time to dodge the blasts. The first one, he smacked with his wooden sword, something that wouldn't have worked if it hadn't been carved out from an ancient tree that grew from absorbing magic. He dodged the second blast, but the third one struck him in the chest, sending him careening back into the darkness where he managed to land on his hooves.

I'll need a moment to recover. I'm safe from her back here. She can't sense me.

I see. She hasn't developed her spiritual awareness. Even so, I shouldn't hold myself back.

Flash heard hoofsteps tapping on stone, beginning directly in front of her, then moving to her left side. Feather leapt forward with his wooden sword in hoof before unleashing a flurry of strikes on her. Each strike that made contact created a yellow spark. His sword was enchanted, mostly to make it more effective against demons.

Feather faced Flash perfectly in the pitch black darkness. His spiritual awareness wasn't as strong as Cumulus or Tricis, but he was able to sense flash fairly well at that short distance. He unsheathed his wooden sword from his belt and held it in the fetlock of his right front leg.

"Are you prepared? Once we start, I wont stop until I've won." He warned. "Whatever that entails."
