  1. @Blitz Boom More complications, but Sen couldn’t argue with the kind of logic that operates the mindscape. Elder Zhao was with him in some manner, so it would make traversal and understanding this realm a little more doable. Magic like this isn’t the easiest to grasp, but the longma didn’t quite get magic anyway, making information a little easier to digest. Still, not knowing what Omen would look like in a place like Lin’s mind was rather odd, as he thought Lin’s basic understanding of what the Ki’nathar looked like would be how she’d turn out in her mind. He’d leave the intricate specifics to Elder Zhao. As much as Sen would like to have a few choice words for the elder, complaining about her whacking him over the head wasn’t a conducive use of time. They were on a mission, and he’d hate to leave a negative impression on her when there was something more important to do now. She did explain why it needed to be done, which was enough to convince him of the necessity. Looks like they’ll find Omen along the way. “I guess you know about this odd crystal then, elder. No other way forward, so I guess this one might be how we find our way in. Here’s hoping we can figure this out right because I’d hate to damage any of my sister’s memories…. Either that or we may end up stumbling into a memory Lin never told me about.” Sen reached out and placed one claw the solid crystal, cold to the touch before emanating a faint glow. Once in, the mindscape was no more, now with him visualizing what looked like a simple memory of them staying in what appeared to be a dark room or realm devoid of other identifying features. It wasn't quite like a cave outside Canterlot, but it was likely the one they stayed at sometime after Ponyville or possibly another place altogether. Some time spent within that small town brought them together for sure despite most of it taking place in the Everfree Forest. After some time in thought, Sen could pinpoint the event: it was in Mother's realm, leaving shortly after to trace Lin's path. The longma certainly felt no different from before, but something was off. He was still the same, though seeing his body in front of him was surreal, especially when his perspective was possibly his sister talking to, well… himself. We need to get you help, Lin… Time is running out, and your body is breaking down because of that magic you insisted on using! They turned their backs on our family! It was the right call when I found that magic! But you’re right; we need to find a place that could fix me… “I remember this. It felt like a lifetime ago, but there is no doubt. Sister found some kind of source of dark magic, and although she learned how to use it, that power was slowly eating away at her until nothing would remain. Something’s not right; we weren’t alone when we were looking for a way to restore her. I am certain about it because we shared my body for a time. Hmm… wait, I think this happened after her consciousness was placed into a separate, temporary body.” “Elder Zhao, I believe this is important for Lin. What happened after this was important for her; it was when she’d get her new body, the same one you saw earlier, and seeing Omen again was what solidified their friendship and brought all of us closer together. What can we do to set this memory right? Do I have to recall how this memory really happened and allow that to change how Lin remembers this event?”
  2. @Blitz Boom “I understand, Elder Zhao. We can’t use magic, and we have to stay focused. I don’t know what more to expect from Lin’s mind, but if you say it isn’t close to being truly broken, I suppose that is a good start already. Repairing shared memories may not be the biggest concern; I can only hope those that I have no knowledge of are intact because I wouldn’t know where to begin fixing them.” Elder Zhao said a mouthful and then some, but the idea seemed straightforward enough: fix memories to proceed. Having to fend off whatever else may be in Lin’s head was another matter; however, the longma could only hope that his physical skill set was enough. A headlock to knock some creature out may be needed, and Sen smiled to himself with the notion that he’d very likely put that lesson to the test. It’ll be something to tell Rosa about when they next meet. For now, the focus will need to be on Lin’s well-being and navigating this mindscape. The longma followed the elder where they needed to go, further upward and into a dark room illuminated fairly by candlelight. This was a rather ominous sight, but the kitsune hadn’t given Sen a reason to doubt them, and so he continued onward, just as the elder instructed. A swift blow to the head and the longma fell flat on the ground, waking up to the mindscape he was told about. The path didn’t appear to be straightforward, and navigation would be complicated. Sen awoke to the sight of what appeared to be floating islands populated by small patches of forest, though some had traditional huts or modern homes or large concrete buildings of places like Canterlot. Trees hung low over his head, planted upside down, and what might be a sun or moon was clearly below him. It was all a shattered landscape among a vast and dark sea of stars, but Sen could see red, jagged shards looming in the distance, connecting these disparate planes with a strange pulsating tentacle-like web. It was a likely sign that whatever was in the middle was the source of the blockage and what influenced his sister’s memories, with the modern-looking locales having larger organic-looking masses over them. Sen would first encounter a simple gem shard jutting from the ground, likely an object that housed a memory of Lin’s. He’d consider touching the shard, but it may not be safe for now, especially if he might end up tampering with a memory unfamiliar to him. There was a life his sister led while separated, one he never had a chance to learn about from her aside from brief mentions. Without a clear path forward and knowledge of the rules of this place, traversal may mean touching this shard and repairing the memory contained within. He would need to be sure and figured it was best to not go into this alone. “Omen? Where are you? Can you hear me?” Sen called out, his voice echoing into the distance. He’d first make sure Omen was safe and in an area he could identify. If they were on separate islands, they could try linking up and make traversal less complicated for themselves. “If you’re out there, I’m on an island with a crystal poking out from the ground. It might be the same on your end and elsewhere.”
  3. @Blitz Boom “Broken? This Mother… took me in as family? But, what about mother and father? I… I’m sorry if I do not wholly believe what you say; it’s just hard to know what is real and what is not.” ”It’s all right, sister. Trust Omen and what she says. She speaks the truth.” Lin clutched her head, as expected from the pain that surged within her whenever she attempted to remember, though something about that caused her more distress. If she were taken in, what would that say about her parents? Were they still around? Two different accounts, but she wasn’t sure what to make of the discrepancy in details, and it didn’t help that her head was being squeezed by whatever it was that took hold of her. Hearing about meeting and being friendly with creatures outside the village like Rosa didn’t seem so farfetched compared to being “fixed.” It certainly explained why she was physically different, leaving her wondering just how true Omen’s words were. Though difficult, that trust may come into play when needed most, and so she'd nod to the Ki'Nathar in acknowledgment. Talk of Scarcity got Sen interested. Her saving kits and asking nothing in return? Maybe he wasn’t entirely convinced that she could be doing so wholly altruistic reasons, but he understood that there may be more good than bad in the mare. Someone wielding influence would benefit from having access to the kitsune villages. What she’d do with that kind of boon was something Sen couldn’t fathom, but he’d rather not go into the minutiae or second-guess the mare. He wasn’t on her bad side, which was good enough for him. Lin would stand still while Elder Zhao probed the recesses of her mind, feeling some kind of tingle with the magic he utilized. It was bizarre, both to her and Sen, to know such magic exists. With certainty, it might feel different from having someone actively control their actions, leaving their conscious minds trapped within their bodies, as Sen could still remember from a terrible past experience. Fortunately, this one was different and preferable. The actual procedure to remove whatever was blocking Lin’s memories was something he’d never expected to do. Going into her mind and removing the block sounded so straightforward, yet it was bizarre all the same. Sen and Omen were warned that they may not return if they didn’t handle this right, but they did, it’ll be one weight greatly lifted off his chest. It was the last part that Sen gulped: trust. It wasn’t that he didn’t have trust in Omen and Lin, but he didn’t trust himself to follow through, even if he verbally stated how he’d try to do better. Sadly, this was no time for second-guessing, not when this could help Lin. It seemed like there was no other choice. “Omen speaks for me, too. Whatever it takes to help and get the Lin we know back, we will do. Is there more you can tell us about this mindscape and what we can expect to see, Elder Zhao?”
  4. @Blitz Boom “I… am not certain what all this means, but if I have something has taken over me before… ugh, no. I cannot think of this now, not when the pain comes back worse than the last time. Remembering… it may be too much.” “We have to help you remember, Lin. There’s a lot more riding on this, and it would help if you can remember what happened. All this was very recent, and whatever took its hold on you intended a warning. There are folks back home who are counting on you, like our village elder, Ghilan.” Lin hesitated, looking away from her brother and Omen in contemplation. She winced from the pain that was reverberating through her head as she clutched it with one claw, but Sen spoke with conviction. He was on to something, even if she couldn’t say what. What Elder Gao and Head Nurse Lao spoke of were more unknowns, but it terrified Lin; the thought that anything could prey on her made her shudder, and she wasn’t keen on finding out more. However, she would at least want to try and learn more about recent events, so she turned to Omen now. ”I... know you told me of what we went through together, Omen, but can you tell me more? Do you know our elder? And what is he asking of me... or us? I think there is something to this, but I am not sure.” She and her brother would follow wherever the elder and nurse would take them, pathways past the beautiful scenery and the spirits that have come to see them as odd visitors. It was a surreal experience, but all of this felt like some attempt at trying to get Lin to remember who she was back then. It wasn’t quite like this, but being away from the village to see things never thought possible… was something that began to jog Lin’s memories or form new ones in place of the old. Sen was just as interested in the spirits, though it was more about them being a figment of nature and if longma beliefs of nature were similar. After all, having established rapport with Head Nurse Lao concerning the kitsune’s beliefs and leadership showed they had more similarities than expected. For now, the two would settle with meeting with Elder Zhao, a curious creature who had an interesting undertaking with cards. Sen didn’t quite get this based on his experiences in Equestria, but that was neither here nor there. Hearing her speak made things clear: she wasn’t one to trifle with, someone who didn’t want her time wasted. It seemed like they had to get straight to the point, and once addressed Lin paused, and looked at her brother for a moment. It wasn’t like her to be overly cautious when speaking to others, especially when her previous self was more readily capable of speaking for herself. Sen nodded in reassurance, standing by in case he needed to come in and help. “Elder Zhao, my name is Lin, and what Elder Gao said is true. My memories… I think they’ve been tampered with or being kept from me. What my brother and Omen said earlier, it’s like something is trying to stop me from remembering, instead making me recall something different. Sen and Omen say my past is different, that we experienced things that I didn’t think were true or possible, and I am not sure what to believe. When I think I’m close, this… throbbing pain… it rushes in. It feels like claws squeezing my head; at other times, it’s sharper, like a stinging whip. Whatever took hold of me… I think it’s still here, worming its way into my mind. I… ugh, nggrhh.” ”I... I’m sorry if this is not getting us closer to finding a solution. This gap in my memories... I was told it happened recently, but I can recall nothing about it. Sen and Omen said something or someone made me its mouthpiece and left a warning. Maybe they can say more? But whatever it is you need me to do to help, you need only say it, and I will try to help." Attempting to remember more brought about that pain, leaving Lin clutching her head in an attempt to control it. Sen stood by and held his sister, letting her lean on him if necessary, though there were hints that the old Lin was fighting to stop herself from feeling weak. Even at its worst, she wouldn’t let whatever was exerting its influence on her take hold. She’d try to avoid attempting to remember more, but she was certain some events from her past didn’t line up with what Sen and Omen said. For now, she held her tongue to see what Elder Zhao would have to say.
  5. @Blitz Boom “The longma and the kitsune are much alike, it seems. Maybe we could meet again in the future, but knowing what you said, it may take time. Maybe it won’t happen in the future. The longma disdain outsiders because of our unfortunate history and experiences of being duped and lied to. Isolation and being difficult to find is something our kind have in common, and I say that, even after knowing the irony of me being here and us talking.” “Do not worry though. I will not speak of this place to others lest they try to find you or the kitsune. It’s the least I can do in return for your help.” There was a side to Sen that had hoped the longma’s hostility to outsiders could be curbed, though only he and Lin have experience in interacting with the world outside the forest. Xin could also count, as he once ventured out to bring Sen home. Likewise, Ghilan saw the value in wanting to expand horizons and learn from those with different experiences. The more he thought about this matter, the more he had to worry about once it came to speaking with the elders. However, he’d look fondly at this experience as an example; he’d just be more delicate about raising this part during their discussions. The siblings were surprised to see this to be some kind of test, and Sen was glad to have passed, in a manner of speaking. He certainly felt good about having made the right choice. However, the kitsune named Choha would reveal himself to be an elder, one who observed them previously. At once, Sen bowed to Elder Gao, proceeding to provide some introductions. “The kitsune’s hospitality and your greetings honor us, Elder Gao. My name is Sen, and my sister, Lin,… she has been afflicted with something that I don’t know. It forces her to remember things a certain way lest she is hurt by it. Something took over her, making her some kind of mouthpiece for a warning.” “Wh… what? No, that couldn’t have happened. Did it? Lin observed the green mist floating in front of her, but her mind began to wander into the recesses of her memories. What Elder Gao said was true, that she was confused at times, yet Sen’s narration of events got her to try and remember. Something took over her? Made her issue a warning? Those were surreal, but some parts of those memories were present, even when they shouldn’t. The more she tried to tap into those thoughts, the more her pain became apparent. As she said earlier, she’d endure, but even Lin couldn’t tell how long she could manage. For now, she would stay put and try to keep the pain at bay. “No, none of this should be real. What’s happened to me? Why me?” Lin looked to Elder Gao first, then to her brother and Omen with a worried look. As far as her memories could muster, she lived an ordinary life with the other longma, but these recent events, new revelations that are shaking her grip on what is real, only seem to add more confusion with no easy answers. Though signs of the old Lin were present whenever she tried to endure the pain, even Sen couldn’t find the words to help calm Lin down. Right now, they had to put their faith in the kitsune to hopefully find a cure. ”I don’t know if you can say, but... if my mind isn’t mine, what could have done this? Do the Kitsune know of the kind of power that can do such a thing, Elder Gao?“
  6. @Blitz Boom “I will keep this in mind. Elder Ghilan is always looking out for opportunities to learn, and having shared or similar experiences with another young elder would be great for him.” Lin was unsure about what Sen was talking about here, though the idea that their elder wasn’t quite “elderly” and was on the lookout for others outside their village was odd. She knew elders kept to themselves unless they were to meet up with other elders or attend to major issues within the village. Just how much was she missing in her memories? She knew something didn’t add up, but she couldn’t think about it lest the pain return with greater intensity. For now, she can endure and manage her headaches, but it seemed like whatever was affecting her was intent on keeping her in a state of forgetfulness, enforcing recollections of certain memories over others, and deviating from that would invoke a metaphorical whip or vice depending on what happens. It almost felt like something or someone was “linked” to her mind; one would shudder to think what else could happen if she continued to attempt to remember things as they truly are. The walk to the building was fairly uneventful, but that was on account of having to focus more on her pain over the kitsune watching her. The occasional comment from Sen, especially remarks on nature and aesthetics was rather unexpected of him, but that was enough to forget her own predicament. “The longma believe in nature being a ‘provider’ of our needs, and so we value utmost respect to the natural, only taking what is needed and ensuring the rest can thrive without our intervention. I guess the most impressive things we have are homes built into treetops, but those are only for new families, which are given up to their young when the current owners grow old. Our own elders’ halls are less impressive; they’re simple huts, large enough to hold sessions for settling disputes.” Sen turned to Omen upon hearing her remark. Though he had his share of oddities, this one might be interesting to see. “Maybe I could see one of those beanbag chairs you’re talking about. It’ll be interesting to learn what they are like.” Sen and Lin nodded in agreement, then bowed toward Nurse Lao who would go on ahead to put in a request to see their elder. Lin had trouble with the gesture, but she still insisted on doing so out of respect, as the good head nurse was accommodating to them. The two would sit down and invite Omen to join them, though they wouldn’t obstruct her if she would prefer to wander around and explore. For Sen, ensuring his sister’s comfort and safety right now was his priority, and he’d stay put to see it through. However, it would appear Omen would meet another kitsune, one who provided a rather tempting offer to see Elder Zhao faster. Knowing Lin was in pain, she would need to see someone urgently, but there was a gnawing at the back of Sen’s mind that would try to convince him to stay and wait for Nurse Lao. “Lin? How are you doing now? Is the pain unbearable?” “I’ll… manage. Do what you think… is best.” Sen only seemed half-convinced that he knew what was best for the situation. Lin could handle her pain, but it could take a turn for the worse if she wasn’t distracted. It was tempting to take up Choha on the offer, but after already taking too many poorly-thought actions recently, the longma felt he was being reckless and ending up with less-than-favorable outcomes. Then again, he was in a position to make another risky choice… No. This time, he had to be sensible. He turned to the kitsune in the light blue kimono and gave his answer. “Thank you for your suggestion, Choha, but we will pass. Out of respect for Nurse Lao’s efforts and for Elder Zhao, I would rather not overstep our bounds and wait. The consequences will be mine to bear. If you do not mind me asking, why extend an offer of help to us?”
  7. @Blitz Boom “The Zhi’Dahla sounds like a wonderful figure. Back home, the longma have several elders, each one leading their own villages. I know of one, a friend and the youngest of the elders, barely an adult. His name is Ghilan, though that isn’t his true name. He gave it up when he chose to become an elder. If he and your young elder were to meet, I believe Ghilan could learn much.” Ghilan was on his own track to becoming a full-fledged elder, but many of his early days spent learning were through unsavory experiences. Opposition was high, and many did not see him as capable. Even now, he is beset by doubters for good reason, and many would rather see someone with more experience lead the village. Hardline traditionalists within the hunters only tolerate Ghilan at best, though some may see this as an opportunity to try and usurp leadership. One could only imagine what the elder would go through day by day. This Kozue, at least by the description Nurse Lao mentioned, sounded like someone whom Ghilan could find common ground with. As a young elder in his own right, he may see a chance to learn from someone with experience. Circumstances notwithstanding, that would be difficult, especially when he himself is training an apprentice. That’ll be a problem for a different day, however, but he’ll look forward to any chance to learn from someone more knowledgeable. For the moment, Lin’s pain would come and go, a throbbing in her head that stung at times, and crushed on others. It was something to endure, though the little creature that appeared to worry for her was a comforting sight. She wasn’t quite sure what to make of it, though being able to say her name to some degree suggested familiarity. That kind of reassurance, though welcomed, intensified her pain, and she longed to find something to distract her. So it was that she tried to get up and walk with the head nurse, only to be stopped by her brother, who helped her up. She wouldn’t be able to walk normally, settling for hobbling with her brother’s support. “We will go with you, Nurse Lao. Please forgive us if we slow you down; Lin’s pain lingers, and we aren’t sure what else might trigger it. Thank you as well for accommodating us.” “Ngrrh… I will endure it. Let us… proceed. Brother, Omen? I…” “Lean on us and take it slow.” There wouldn’t be more to question, and the siblings would follow after Nurse Lao. Sen remembers the sight of the town, or what he could still remember from what little he saw. The kitsune had what looked like an idyllic paradise here, modern in some respects, but there was no doubt it held its unique identity. There was a reminder of what the forest could look like if it could be developed with nature preserved, though it’ll be years before any of such things could be made reality. As they walked, Sen and Lin caught wind of some of the kitsune eyeing them. Understandable that they would harbor some suspicions, but it was a far cry from hostility among their own kind. The longma could still remember seeing himself in a similar situation back then: holding up his wings around Lin and Omen while they were being pelted with rocks and rotten fruit, the jagged stones cutting into his skin. It felt like a lifetime ago, but there was never regret in what he did. This was much more preferable, and had it not been for Lin’s current predicament, he may one day find himself taking a stroll here if the Kitsune permitted it. Once they found themselves at their destination, the siblings felt like they were transported to an entirely new realm. Beautiful wasn’t enough to describe what they saw, and it was just plain to see the moment when their breaths were taken away by the view. “Unimpressive? It’s wonderful! Nothing back home could compare to this! Whoever thought of merging a structure like this with nature this way must be a master of their craft. The designers and builders should be applauded. I… umm… was getting carried away. Let’s continue on and see Elder Zhao. Rest assured he will be shown the utmost respect.” Lin marveled at the sights before her eyes, and although it eased some of her pain, hearing Sen gush like a child was what got her quietly chuckling. It has been some time since she remembered him like this. It made enduring the pain much more manageable. Even the simplicity of being surrounded by friendly and helpful creatures like Omen and Nurse Lao did wonders.
  8. @Blitz Boom “An elder? Maybe our definitions of elder differ, but I hope the process can help Lin without us discovering something even worse. Whatever took over my sister was angry. It looked like it had powerful magic, but its full capabilities are unknown.” Recalling the previous encounter with the creature, it only claimed itself to be a “messenger,” and while it succeeded in doing that, the creatures that want the longma would likely want something more. A foothold of a sort, though seeing as it wanted a host body, eliminating memories to create an empty husk could be a start. It wasn’t an enticing idea, but the possibility existed; whether it was true was only a matter of time, especially if a mind link would happen. What the siblings heard was definitely harsh. Unexpected, but harsh in a manner of speaking. Pain like this being good was not a good thing, even if it was already able to identify the problem. Something definitely was blocking Lin’s memories, likely also leaving a trace of what was needed to suppress memory retrieval. Maybe it was good that Lin’s memories could be recovered, and Nurse Lao’s words were comforting after the fact. Well, some of it, at least. A few days’ time before this Elder Zhao could help, and this would be a process that will take time. Sen didn’t like the idea that he’d be going to face the elders back home alone, but this would be one of those times when he’d have to step up. Elder Ghilan won’t like what’s happened, and he’d be wondering about the events that led up to… whatever it is the siblings found themselves in. Worrying about that will have to wait. Right now, Lin needs all the help she can get, and he'd provide whatever assistance necessary. “We’ll do everything we can to help. Lin? Rest for now. Don’t try to think about what you were told.” “All right, but I don’t know if I could keep my mind from wandering.” Lin would eat the fruits given to her. A nice and succulent distraction for now, though it would be difficult to keep the mind idle. It was irresistible to think about what Omen said, about their shared past despite having no recollection of it. Or rather, having blank spots in her mind that would likely be filled in by the missing memories. She’d feel little jolts of pain in her head similar to electricity crackling and coursing through, but other instances felt like claws crushing her mind if she tried again. It was invoking some kind of torture to herself, and whatever did this didn’t want her remembering. Sadly, even seeing herself, or what’s become of her now was enough to get her mind racing. Sen was about as normal as longma could go: brown hide, leathery wings, branched horns… She didn’t match that anymore, and it was discomforting to see herself be similar to Omen. This was the first of many proofs that her memories were tampered with, and that was just enough to have the pain come rushing back. “Aagh! Nrrgh… even looking at myself is like remembering!” “You need to take it easy, at least until we can get you some help. Nurse Lao? Before you send the request, would it be safe for Lin if we provide her with some kind of distraction? Something to keep her mind off trying to remember her missing memories? It looks like even getting some hint of what she’s supposed to know is enough to cause pain.”
  9. @Blitz Boom “I’m not sure how much Omen and I could help Lin. What she said was about the time we had after we found her. Before that, she lived alone and survived on what skills she learned, while the rest was built on her experiences. The last time we had a normal life was 12 years ago, and that was before we were separated. Finding her, that is something we could consider recent.” Sen paused for a moment and considered how he’d approach any solutions moving forward. He wouldn’t consider more dangerous treatments, and magically induced options didn’t really sit well with him. Linking his mind with hers was something of a last resort, and telling her of their memories as best they could was already what Omen was doing. Lin’s mind was damaged enough as it was, so anything less intensive or taxing on her sounded good. However, it was still a curiosity to Sen how linking minds worked, and despite his general aversion to magic, he isn’t ready to shut out that option. Admittedly, there was a sense of uncertainty in how magic-based solutions worked, but knowing Lin before her memories were tampered with, she would likely approve of it, especially if there was a chance to learn more about the process. There’s more to observe from interactions with Lin, but unknowns or risky options weren’t enticing for now. “If I may ask, what would the kitsune do to let us link minds? And how can we tell if memories are being blocked?” Lin listened to Omen’s recounting, though she had her issues milling in her head. The more she heard, the more it didn’t seem to add up with what she knew. Being broken? Needing to be fixed? Exile? None of this sounded right. She was fine, and she didn’t do anything to end up going missing. Seeing a gateway to another realm and being friends with creatures whose names didn’t sound familiar was just adding to the confusion. However, something stirred in her, as if what Omen mentioned was fact. The more she thought on those things, the more her own memories tried to fight her. “The things you said… I do not recall. I’m not sure they even happened, but now I can’t say for certain what was true. It’s like waking up from a dream that felt so real. Maybe I should think about what you said some more.” The longma looked to Omen, still unsure of what she just heard, but deep down, she could feel some connection to her words. There was a moment of silence spent pondering, wondering if there was just a misunderstanding. Unfortunately, that kind of connection also induced a sharp pain, as if something whipped her while crushing her head. Only upon thinking hard enough did she feel that kind of affliction, as she clutched her head in pain and shrieked. “I… ugh… What just happened? What did that…?” “Lin? Are you all right?” “No. I… I don’t know. Everything I was told... it doesn’t sound right, and yet the more I try to remember, the more I believe something in me is wrong. It’s like something is trying to stop me from remembering, and when I think I am close, the pain rushes in.” The longma turned to the head nurse with a worried look on her face, having an inkling that something’s wrong. “Nurse, do you know what is wrong with me? Can this be fixed?”
  10. @Blitz Boom “Prolonged… memory loss? No, no that doesn’t sound right. I was only out for what felt like a few minutes at best, but what am I doing here? This isn’t right.” “Sister, please calm down. Nurse Lao, and all of us, want to help. I know this isn’t what you expected, but you need to let us help you. Cooperate with us, all right? We’ll figure out what’s going on.” Lin nodded, though it was evident that she was confused and scared as she subconsciously attempted to back up and away. It wouldn’t exactly work from where she was, and there was little room to move, but this one might be a delicate procedure. It was already strange enough to wake up in a place with someone unknown, but Sen talking like all this was normal… If she was dreaming, maybe it was time for her to wake up, and yet all of this didn’t feel like a dream. It was all real, and it didn’t make things any better. And all that wasn’t enough, as Omen spoke to her with familiarity. Mentioning her parents as if she knew about them was another complication, and knowing the longma, they’d be wary of outsiders. Disclosing that information was one of the last things she could’ve thought possible. The only reassurance Lin had was her brother’s words; if it was safe to be around these creatures, then she’d put her trust in that despite the discomforting thoughts and implications. “I… I’m not so sure I remember you, stranger, but I feel something different. About you and Nurse Lao. Our kind are wary of anyone who isn’t us, and yet… It’s not the same here. Something tells me you two are different, and that there are others like you that are the same.” “It’s not your first time to see the kitsune, sister. We’ve been in their realm once before. As for Omen? We’ve been traveling together for some time now, been to places like Canterlot and Ponyville. Omen’s helped us, just as we have been helping her. You do not recall any memories of those?” Lin paused to think back on what Sen mentioned, though it seemed like she was drawing blanks. Her emotional state swings between genuine confusion and some degree of frustration. The more she tries to remember, the more it feels like there are apparent gaps in her memories. Something should be there, but all she gets are blanks and headaches. After about ten minutes of fruitless attempts at recollection, it seemed like she was ready to give up; the nagging feeling that there was something to say Sen and Omen mentioned didn’t help. The longma turned to Omen, staring right at the Ki’Nathar’s eyes in the vague and somewhat hopeless notion that the sight could miraculously give her answers. Alas, it would be for naught, but she acknowledges the wrongness of it. “There is something to you, is there Omen? You speak as if you know my story. Can you tell me something? Since brother says we traveled together, what memory can you recall of us doing something together?” As for Sen, he turned to Nurse Lao in the hopes of being able to do more than just wait things out and stand by. May be best to do his part to help. “Nurse? Lin traveled with me and Omen for what felt like months. I’m not sure how long exactly, but when she mentioned our parents, it sounded like what she should have known was just gone. If I may ask, how can we tell what is missing in her memories and what could we do to help regain them?”
  11. @Blitz Boom “Be well, Omen and Sen. We look forward to seeing you again soon.” Sen nodded and departed with Omen to their next destination, though it would be some time before they could meet once more. There is no doubt that they would cross paths once again, though they hoped it would be in better times. The situation the longma and the Ki’Nathar are in could grow more complicated by the moment, but they had to be strong to weather uncertainties, one of which being Lin’s condition. As for the step pyramid, it wouldn’t go anywhere, but information on the matter is scant other than hints of it being related to the longma based on what information was extrapolated so far. With a gate opened from the scholars to the Kitsune, the longma looked around to see where Lin was. Omen was now taking a more proactive approach to things, which got them moving toward the answer Sen hoped to know. He was rather impressed by this, even if the motions were rather simple. In a short time, they’d find Lin together with a kitsune, likely monitoring their sister’s condition. “Thank you, Nurse Lao. If there is any way we can help you with your… umm… evaluations for Lin, please let us know. My name is Sen, and this is Omen. It’s good to know that she is fine in some manner.” Eye movements under the eyelids were apparent within moments of speaking with the head nurse, something that Sen noticed in the corner of his vision. That, to him, seemed like a good start, though it wasn’t much based on his limited knowledge. Seeing her twitch and shake violently earlier was difficult to see, and he hoped nothing of the sort would happen again. In about five minutes time, Lin’s eyelids fluttered, then little bits of her eyes became more visible. In time, her eyes would open, catching sight of Sen, Omen, and Lao, though she didn’t try to move out of her spot for now. “Lin? Sister? You’re awake! I’m so glad! How are you feeling?” Lin looked to her brother, then to Omen, but she didn’t utter a reply. Her eyes still appeared glazed as she scanned the room to identify where she was at the moment. Though Sen understood the unfamiliarity of the situation, the silence wasn’t a good sign, though it wouldn’t last, which was a relief, albeit brief. “Wh-what is going on? Where am I?” “It’s okay; you’re safe here. Do you remember what happened earlier?” “Earlier? I... I was delivering some messages to the craftworkers about a request, then now I’m here. I’m not sure what happened in between, but you must know, right? And you’re… not alone? Hello to you. Might you also know? Mother and father would need to be informed about the delay.” Head Nurse Lao would only need to see Sen’s stunned expression to get clued in on Lin’s condition. The longma was mortified upon hearing the mention of their parents, but Lin spoke without hesitation… she might have her memories scrambled, likely remembering some details and blanking out on others. In addition, it was telling that she only seemed to have recognized her brother and not Omen. Though there was some relief in her not treating her differently despite being unfamiliar, there was still the issue at present, and the way forward was now one step more uncertain. “Omen? What the spirit did… it may have damaged sister’s memories. This is not good.”
  12. @Blitz Boom “There is no stopping you in this matter, is there? Do not let us hold you back, Omen; only exercise utmost caution when you do so. There is no telling what else lurks in the shadows unseen.” The scholars would be rather uncharacteristically pushy in this matter, but the danger is always present, and their more natural emotional ties to the living have seemingly begun to manifest despite being an orb. Time spent away from the mortal coil supposedly hardened them into adhering to cold logic, yet this unexpected development was most unusual. They wouldn’t question it regardless as they turned their attention to the Stone Matron. New bodies awaited them soon, and they would want some natural feelings to come as they did. “Very well, Stone Matron. We will await what comes next, but we greatly appreciate your help and guidance. It will be interesting to acclimate to physical bodies once more after countless lifetimes.” It seemed like things were calm for now, and attention was drawn to other important matters. Likewise, Sen had his own matters to attend to, and having said his piece to Omen, he’d do as he was asked. Lin needed someone to attend to her if her consciousness returned. It would be good to see if she were doing better now, but that would be up to whether the kitsune looking after her were to allow visitors. “All right. Omen? Can you open a gate back to Lin and the kitsune? If you want to head out and find out more about the pyramid, I’ll inform you of Lin’s status when you get back. Scholars? Stone Matron? Thank you for your time. I should go and see my sister.” Sen didn’t feel enthusiastic about what he had learned, and coupled with how many complications came about, he already began to feel the stress. That said, he’d still respectfully bow to them both before leaving for the kitsune’s home realm. As for Lin, she’d still appear unconscious if anyone were to check up on her. The extent of the damage was impossible to tell through sight alone, but all seemed as normal as one could get. She would need to be awake to see any changes, but if given some time, Lin would slowly come to, as her eye movements began with little flutters just barely visible under her eyelids. Perhaps this may be the first of some good signs to come, but Sen will welcome any positive news now.
  13. @Blitz Boom “It would be best to wait and see when you’ll encounter the structure before deciding when you will conduct your search. As the Stone Matron says, when we will gain our bodies after midnight, and once we are accustomed to them, we can provide assistance. Though we have our obligations and desires once we are separated from each other, those can be put on hold when you need us. However, this may need to be sorted out with Ms. Scarcity, so it is likely not all of us will be able to join you. As said, it is wait and see.“ The scholars haven’t forgotten the deal with Scarcity, and though Sen had already voiced his suspicions about what the mare wanted, it was better to have her as an ally instead of an enemy. A fact made more apparent by the scholars intervening on the mare’s behalf means they have to at least stand by their words. There was no contesting it now, as a deal had been made, and one side of the agreement was about to come to fruition. It would be good to see the world in a new form, no longer constrained by being an object at the mercy of anyone’s whims. “There is a distinction in being a creature given the capability to procreate, though it may hint at some nefarious purpose behind the decision if whoever created the longma intended it so. Hints of it could be found on your body, but it is also possible that your physical form is natural, and the tampering could lie elsewhere. The true extent of your kind’s creation is unknown, so all this is academic and speculative until something definitive comes our way.” Everyone’s words were encouraging, though didn’t seem to affect Sen. He remained worried and sullen, still unsure what to make of this. He was real, not someone’s creation. For the longest time, the longma were their own creatures, individuals with personal stories distinct from each other and a history of shared pain and determination to never be anyone else’s tools. There was no way they could be a product of some other creature’s desire. As for the scholars, they’d have to plan their moves with Omen now, as any developments on the matter could lead to more discoveries, dangers, and unsavory implications. The pursuit of knowledge is always at the forefront, but not when it could get someone hurt. “It is hard to say if we can truly help Lin, but when you are able, please bring her to us. Old knowledge from the step pyramid could be valuable, but ensuring the safety of your friends is just as important. For now, it is impossible to know if anything in the structure will be of help, so it is best to work with what can be learned safely.” Things were truly moving at a much quicker pace now; Sen couldn’t imagine just how it was going at this moment, but he wished he could still do something to help. The risks were unclear, but there was no doubt about the danger of such a task. “Omen? I know I can’t go with you, but please don’t rush into this. If you sense danger or find yourself in a risky situation, turn back and find safety. Finding the truth isn’t worth it if the risks are too high.”
  14. @Blitz Boom “We will consider other possible options, Stone Matron, but we need to first secure any threats living near the longma. Thank you. I’m not sure what other else there is that isn’t food because those are mostly the poisonous ones, and it wouldn’t make a good impression on Voracity.” Poisonous mushrooms aren’t uncommon in forests, and the longma’s forest home is just as likely to have various kinds. Red ones with white spots are a prime example of things best left alone, though it does call to question how the older generations determined what was safe to eat. Then again, Sen might not want to know. The truth could be difficult to swallow, figuratively and literally speaking. It may not be an issue for Omen, but the opposite could be true for Voracity, and that will definitely draw the draconequus’s ire for sure. “The matter is theoretical until you come across the structure, but exercise caution whenever necessary. It would be best to have at least someone providing assistance. Going alone can be a dangerous prospect, especially when dealing with creatures like those who possess this type of magical signature. The Stone Matron speaks true, but without truly knowing the nature of the creatures we are facing, a specialist in spirits may not be ideal. We suggest an initial survey to learn what it is you face before bringing assistance. It is likely that they may be hiding behind magic and the guise of spirits as cover to conceal themselves.” There was no physical evidence that could determine who wanted to enslave the longma, but being broken suggests spirits may be at work. Body snatchers who are jumping from host to host are likely, and the same could be said about those that are simply seeking a crude form of immortality by moving into different physical forms. Unfortunately, the shattered orb didn’t have any information about them; they were likely using whatever means necessary to hide themselves from those seeking them out. Sen remained silent, not wishing to argue after giving his word about trusting Omen’s capability to defend herself. He still worried for her, and it was apparent in the way he looked at her that he wished he could join her, risks and all. At the same time, seeing Lin unconscious already meant he had to accept the reality that he was going to be a liability more than an asset. For all he knew, he’d probably end up being forced to fight someone he cared about. So much of this didn’t sound right, but he couldn’t contest anything without appearing unreasonable. “It is possible. A structure that big wouldn’t be missed easily, and if it is at the center of the glyphs we saw, it’s important enough to be recorded. Sadly, we can’t chase this lead, not with the elders’ meeting happening soon. We will need to just keep this in mind unless we somehow stumble into it.” It would take a strange level of coincidence to see the step pyramid without trying, but it wasn’t out of the realm of possibility. The glyphs and the ruins were in the forest, and if those were there, what could possibly stop the step pyramid from being within the same territory? With so much already happening outside of this matter, finding it would complicate things further, as the risks brought up by the scholars present a clear, if seemingly absent, danger. There was still something else to discuss, and the longma would circle back to it. “What is it that you are uncertain about?” “It concerns the longma and what we found after tethering our magic to you and the orb. Being a creature that possesses the physical traits of equines and dragons despite their seeming incompatibility, it may be possible that you and Omen are more similar in a certain, possibly uncomfortable, regard.” “What do you mean?” “The flippant disregard for your lives in pursuit of host bodies or slaves suggests these unknown creatures see you as mere tools. If true, the longma could be artificial organisms; you may be their creation.” Sen froze in disbelief, heart sinking at the thought that he may be an artificial creation. It can’t be; there’s too much to suggest otherwise, but the scholars haven’t been entirely wrong, and they might have found something to suggest truth in what they say. The longma sat and worried, looking at the orb, then the ground, then at Omen. Though he meant no malice in his thoughts, there was just no way he could be the product of someone else’s efforts. He was his own individual. Right?
  15. @Blitz Boom “Many more of the draconequii, though if they are long reformed or gone, it is not likely to be them. Gods are a different matter, but based on your descriptions, they wanted to be left alone, and are also not likely to be looking for creatures to enslave. Voracity may be an avenue worth pursuing when there is time.” “A god? No, it doesn’t sound likely either. Sacrifice isn’t something the longma practice, even if we believe in nature having influence in our lives.” Draconequii are an odd sort, but Discord was the most well-known. A chaotic entity that exuded power and had a knack for mischief was someone likely to pull off the kind of magic they were investigating, but there were enough mentions in the longma’s history to know of him despite never meeting. But then, this would mean establishing contact, which goes against known details of the longma’s isolationism. They believed in nature having some commanding presence as part of their belief system, but nothing suggested the presence of an actual being of worship. Gods could be ruled out in this case, and there was no argument from Sen on this. Not even elders practiced any form of worship, nor led anyone to the worship of other beings of higher power. Voracity sounded like a creature that lived to feed, and though it made sense that servants tending to every whim would be logical, Sen thought that it wouldn’t make too much sense for that, especially if the longma’s history made it seem like their past of slavery was for more than just food. “We do not wish harm upon Sen or Omen. It is not something we will ever do, not after seeing a history of it in our own time. They helped us, just as they brought us to you to give us a new chance at life. Their sister’s life is at risk, as is the rest of their kind, so it is in our best interest to provide assistance wherever we can. As for our discovery, the magical signature is fragmented, but it speaks to the kind of creatures that created it. They are broken, yearning for something to make them whole, and they are angry. Having husks to take over would likely be what would make them whole, but it is difficult to say if this is truly their main goal or just one intention.” The scholars projected a structure before everyone, even toward Sen, who held himself back after seeing Omen erect a gate entrance in front of him: a stone step pyramid about five stories high and crumbling around the sides. It appeared to be rather structurally sound despite its age and the overgrowth covering it. Below it was a forest clearing with smaller huts and trees with homes built along their sides. An open field acting as a circular marker that delineated or separated the two domains was evident in the overall structure of this environment, but it was enough to give a brief picture of what Sen and Omen should keep in mind. “This structure should be a landmark worth remembering because the magical signature we’ve picked up and examined is also present here. Should you find it, exercise extreme caution because it may contain traces of magic that could influence thoughts and behaviors. However, it would not affect you, Omen. That would make you best suited to watch for odd behaviors should anything out of the ordinary manifest, especially if it could affect your friends and fellows among the longma. It should be easier if there is no object channeling that kind of magic; simply draw their attention back to reality if you notice unexpected behavioral changes.” The step pyramid was odd for something that was hidden among the information within the shattered orb, but it was worth keeping in mind nonetheless. If one were to take a closer look at the structure, it bore some resemblance to the glyphs, specifically the central section surrounding the other landmarks. It would seem the glyphs and the orb were connected in some manner, and whatever linked them was tied to the longma as well. Interesting on its own, but when taken together, it starts to build a bigger picture, creating unexpected implications about the longma’s past. However, something else bothered the scholars, at least more than expected out of an inanimate object. “There is one more thing, but certainty on this matter is dubious. We are not sure if it is appropriate to speak of it, but we’ll do so if you are inclined to listen. Our concern is on whether you would believe us.”
  16. @Blitz Boom “Many creatures are capable, but now the task lies in determining which of them, if any, are the most likely options. Knowing what we have gathered from the longma through the former elder, changelings can be ruled out.” “The longma being isolated and wanting no trouble with other creatures means the pixies could also be unlikely. We wouldn’t go looking for creatures that aren’t malicious. Omen, I am not sure about the sphinxes, but could other draconquii be likely? Would you know of others like Discord who might have wanted servants?” “What of those gods you mentioned? Powerful beings like them taking an interest in the longma should not be ruled out. The implications could be dangerous.” It would seem that many creatures possess some form of ability for mental manipulation, and Sen listened on trying to wrap his head around just how many possibilities there were for this kind of magic. Unfortunately, it would make narrowing down the most likely candidates much more difficult, more so if none of them match up to the longma’s historical accounts. Omen’s… odd sounds were rather nerve-wracking, necessitating him to cover his ears out of concern for his sanity. For now, it seemed like the answers wouldn’t be any easier to reach, but the scholars had something on their minds. It was the ethics behind their test that could cause issues with those present. “If the creatures that created this object or spell specifically targeted the longma, it may be best to learn and consider how this type of magic works. What we could gather could give pieces of information that could allow us to deduce the identity of whoever could be after your kind. Sen, as the only longma present, would you be amenable to our experiment?” “Maybe? What would you be doing, and what do you need me to do?” “We only need you to walk out of this room, but it is… difficult to explain our purpose. It is much for us to ask, but we cannot divulge the nature of this test. Trust that we will not mean you any harm.” “No. I won’t do it, not unless you say what you’ll do.” Even if Sen declined, the scholars wouldn’t budge or say, leaving the longma incensed and in need of some time away. Without thinking of what he’s doing, he ended up doing exactly what the scholars wanted and walking away in a huff. Though it seemed like he wasn’t exactly leaving the room, he was walking further from where the others stood, which was close enough for the scholars that they decided to take action. Within several seconds, the focal orb glowed blue just like its shattered counterpart, then released two glowing tethers that reached toward Sen and the shattered orb. Shortly after, the longma stopped in his tracks, turned around, and started slowly walking back to the others. Just like with Lin, the whites in Sen’s eyes were present, and his irritated and angry demeanor was no more. It appeared all traces of emotion, thought, and observation were lost, with him appearing to ignore Omen and the Stone Matron if they tried getting his attention, at least until he stopped in front of the orb again. “Huh? I was walking away… What am I doing back here?” “We’ve only caught slivers of what this magic could be through our test, but there was just enough to piece some details together. ” “You didn’t say anything…. You knew that would happen?!” ”We did, and we apologize. It was necessary for us to hide our intentions so you would decline. The magic we intended to harness and its effects had to be used on someone unwilling so we determine what we might be dealing with. Knowing what our deception caused, we deserve the ire of all who are present.” Sen’s anger erupted when he raised his voice, but he knew there wasn’t much point in retaliating. After all, how could he fight an orb that could project magic? The scholars braced for the reprimands they’d get from Omen, Sen, and the Stone Matron. What they did, taking advantage of the situation without being given consent, was inexcusable, and knew that this would damage the trust they built up with the longma and the Ki’Nathar.
  17. @Blitz Boom “Consider what options are available because given the possible outcomes, using magic to fix this problem will likely make things worse.” “But we can’t just do nothing. This is our sister’s life we’re dealing with, and I refuse to let things turn out like this! You said the bad outcomes of what Lin went through; what more is there? Is there a chance for something good, even if it is only slim?” The scholars paused for a moment, running every possible scenario in their noncorporeal heads. Admittedly, the chances of anything positive happening from an unstable psychic link was next to zero, but that was, in itself, still a chance. They’d relent and offer an answer to Sen’s question, but it was too much to hope that something like it would happen. The odds just weren’t likely to fall in their favor, but even so, they hoped it could still happen. “An unlikely outcome will see your sister recover, all memories intact, and gain the ability to read and speak the language Omen mentioned. It would be as if she was gifted through a memory transfer because of the possession. However, what will most likely happen is Lin waking up with gaps in her memories, and she will need help recovering them. Magic cannot fix that, only simple recollections from those who are knowledgeable and reinforced with time. It is evident that you care a lot for Lin, and so we hope this can ease some of your worries.” The Stone Matron’s question piqued their interest, and they were ready to assist however they could. The siblings, Rosa, and Omen, were about the closest thing the scholars had to friends, and given that they’ll soon be heading off on their separate paths once they receive their golem bodies, it was in their interest to nurture something they already have. Assisting the siblings was never out of the question, and their magical knowledge could do more if they had more to work with. Fortunately, it seemed Omen had that covered… or regurgitated. “There is no doubt that we will offer what help we can, and concerning what you have... provided, these will do. Permit us some moments to study what we could from the events that led to Lin’s possession and her current state of unconsciousness. Perhaps we can learn more about who created this message.” Blue magical energy emanated from the orb, latching itself to the shattered counterpart and creating what appeared to be a web with glowing segments. The scholars traced along the paths, recovering a magical signature that could help identify the creature that took over Lin. Sen remembered that this was only serving as a message, or rather, a warning that someone from the longma’s past would be coming for them. It didn’t make things any easier to remember, but it was something to consider. After about 20 minutes, the scholars eventually concluded their examination, though they seemed hesitant to reveal their findings. As much as they were able to offer something positive earlier, it seemed they might have to retract some of their statements. Even the most realistic and likely outcome became a little less likely to happen. “Did you find out more? What did the shattered orb show you?” “Something we did not expect yet most curious. It contained a message, but it did more harm to Lin than simply using her as a conduit. Whoever created this intended for the creature using this orb to be made into a vessel by destroying their personalities, leaving only a body that could be made to serve their needs. In a sense, it would leave a husk for someone to transfer their consciousness into or possibly a partially conscious slave that will obey orders without question, but the magical signature was only made to respond to longma. Stone Matron, Omen, would either of you know of any creatures that could be capable of such abilities?”
  18. @Blitz Boom “If you are sure, though I will be here to make certain of it.” Sen retorted, filled with certainty that the kitsune would be civil about how they’ll go about getting their samples. If they are anything like the pony doctors, they’ve got their code of honor and their duty to uphold. Hearing the kitsune talk back gave him hope, even getting him to snicker and smile, even if only to himself. It certainly injected some fleeting levity into an otherwise tense longma. Maybe one day he’d find himself simply free of obligations and worries that he’ll sample some kitsune cuisine. For now, that will have to wait; matters with the scholars were underway. “Omen speaks true, though there is more to it. There was another orb, just like the one you are in right now, only someone or something took over Lin after it granted her some ability to read and speak a language she barely knew. It said that we were ‘let loose long enough,’ and that we ‘would be made to serve once more.’ You were found in our forest by the last elder in an orb like the one you are in, and that already makes you suspicious. What do you know about this?” There was silence, an unexpectedly long lull in the moment only broken by the orb releasing a harmless beam aimed at Sen and Omen as if it was examining them. The once seemingly jovial scholars were possibly serious now, though none could say for sure just what made them change. They could sense an accusatory stance from the longma, that even if he didn’t bring himself to say so, they were already the prime suspects. But as it was, they were obligated to share what they knew, even if it would only raise more questions than answers. Once their “examination” was finished, they would resume where the conversation left off. “We have not ruled out the possibility that our creation may have been replicated to fulfill a similar purpose by others, but the Hyracotherians never engaged in slavery. We did not engage in such a practice. The more pressing matter lies in your sister’s condition. Have you taken her to a place where she can be examined?” “Yes, with the Kitsune. We brought her to them before coming to you.” “Good, but even so, you must be aware that she may be in a condition where the creature that tried to possess her might have damaged her being either partially or fully. An unstable psychic and magical link could lead to a loss of memory or worse, destroy someone’s consciousness. Was your sister in such a condition?” Sen nodded, though he wasn’t entirely certain what an unstable link looked like. Lin’s violent shaking was about as close to “unstable” as he could get. Unfortunately, he could already imagine the worst-case scenario where his sister may wake up without any knowledge of who she is or possibly never waking up again. Either outcome wasn’t favorable, especially when it would effectively rob Sen and Omen of a sister, not to mention the complications it would cause when they’d meet with the elders. Such a drastic turn of events wouldn’t help the siblings’ case, and it wouldn’t be the end of the bad news. “Then maybe it would be wise to consider what would become of her because there is a chance she will not be coming back, mentally or otherwise.”
  19. @Blitz Boom “All right, and thank you very much for looking after her.” Sen gently turned Lin over to the kitsune so they could begin their work. As his sister was taken away, the longma sat down and looked on, saddened and worried. He stayed still for a moment before bowing and clutching his head, unaware of his environment, contemplating the possible consequences he might have just subjected his sister to, and what this might mean for Omen, Xin, Ghilan, or possibly even Rosa. Just imagining what might have happened to Lin had things gone wrong was already too much, but it may be only the beginning. Still, there was more work to be done, and so Sen returned to reality and looked to Omen, still forlorn but with something else in mind. “I’m ready to go if you’d like to head to the golems. Are you okay with the kitsune’s request for samples? Any concerns with what exactly they’ll ask of you?” He paused for a moment, mind harkening back to mere moments earlier, though eventually figured he’d end up metaphorically kicking himself over it in case the kitsune’s procedures do more harm than simply for study. Unfortunately, he’d have to behave himself lest these gracious creatures decide to just throw Lin and the rest of them out for his actions. For now, the utmost thing is to keep his emotions in check because he’s already lost control at least once. Once arriving at the Stone Matron’s abode, Sen took a more respectful approach, bowing before her before moving on to follow up on Omen’s opening. It was fortunate that she was accommodating and allowing them to speak with the scholars. Between her and the kitsune, this has been a rather interesting yet welcome turn of events. “Thank you, Stone Matron. There is a matter that concerns our sister, and we believe they may know more about what has happened. The orb they reside in now… it isn’t the only of its kind, and whatever it was containing may be aware of us now.” Though Sen may have let on more than what was necessary, it wouldn’t be right to hold back some information. The Stone Matron would’ve stopped them on suspicions alone, and having to meet the scholars was a priority. When the conversation with the Matron was done, Sen would briskly make his way toward the scholars’ focal orb to hopefully get some information, though he would stick around a longer should the Stone Matron have further questions for him and Omen. Of course, the scholars may have picked up bits of the conversation regardless and prepared themselves for questions. What manner those would take would be up to Sen and Omen, but they’d graciously accept simply being able to speak with known acquaintances. Opposed to the common manner of addressing them first before returning a response, they’d uncharacteristically begin before the longma or the Ki’nathar could speak. “Well met. We are uncharacteristically seeking company and conversation, but your timely arrival is fortuitous. Do you seek knowledge? How may we be of assistance?”
  20. @Blitz Boom Xin stared at this odd display, as Omen didn’t appear to be visibly in pain from having solid shards embedded into her body. Her casually eating them, especially the one lodged in her eye was about the strangest thing he had ever seen until it appeared to begin healing itself. Staring just wasn’t a polite thing to do, but the oddity behind this was unavoidable, and he had to snap himself out of it before it got even weirder for himself. “Oh, uh… Yes. You have a point there, Omen. Taking Lin to the healer will raise a lot of questions, some of which you won’t be readily be able to answer. All of this involving magic would look even worse for you.” “That’s true, but would the Kitsune have anything that could help damaged minds? What we just saw likely ended with Lin unconscious and who knows what with her mind. Rosa’s injuries were physical, but this is something different.” “What other choice is there? I suggest you take a chance with these creatures and hope Lin will be well. As for me, I’ll seal the entrance to this place by collapsing the entryway and maybe add some rocks and dirt while I’m at it. Once that’s done, the only way in will be by digging through the entrance or using gates. We know what we ought to do now, so let’s not waste time; we’ll see each other in the village.” The longma headed for the entrance to begin sealing the place away, leaving Sen, Omen, and an unconscious Lin to head to wherever they needed to go. Hopefully, the Kitsune would have something to help Lin, but if anyone had information on what just tried to warn them from prying too much into the unknown, it would have to be the scholars. Perhaps it was a coincidence that the orb looked familiar, but they were told that the occupants of the previous orb were the last of their kind. Could they have been wrong? All this hurt Sen’s head just thinking about it, but his concern grew with Lin’s current condition unknown. “All right. We’ll see the Kitsune first, Omen. Let’s see if they can help.” Xin bowed and got to work, nodding to Sen and Omen and wishing the best for them. He wouldn’t be joining the group, as he would need to immediately hide the ruins to stop others from finding them. Their arrival would be sudden, but he called out for help, and they answered with aid. As much as Sen wanted to head off to see the soon-to-be golems, he’d wait to see if anything could be done for Lin. He’d approach whoever was in charge of overseeing Lin, silently hoping for good news, or at the very least nothing approaching bad news. It was a long shot, but he had to stay composed for now. “I’m sorry to ask of this so soon, but how bad is my sister’s condition? Could anything be done for her, and how much would your help cost me?” Sen wouldn’t hold out hope for an optimistic outcome, and he expected the soon-to-be golems would know more, but any sliver of hope from good news would ease his troubled mind. Only with certainty that no further action would be needed for the moment would the longma head off to see the Stone Matron and find answers from the scholars. As he waited for a response for the Kitsune, he’d pace back and forth, taking a few steps at a time before turning around and repeating it at a short distance. With everything moving quickly, the situation grew more complicated, and Elder Ghilan will catch on to all this sooner or later, as things are going wrong much too soon.
  21. @Blitz Boom Xin examined Omen and started dusting her off, picking up some of the broken shards of the shattered orb to make sure she was okay. So far, it seemed like it, and nothing appeared to have nicked anything important. Still, it was odd to see the lack of a reaction from the explosion, and Omen just went along, pulling out broken pieces off herself like it was nothing. How the siblings got used to this was a mystery, but frankly, there was no time to be asking questions about it. “Just as things are getting calmer around here… All right, the first order of business would be to get Lin somewhere safe. She’s unconscious and will need someone attending to her, at least until she regains consciousness. You could take her to the healer, though I doubt she’ll be thrilled to see this, or the shards of broken orb stuck on you, Omen. You’ve already met her, right? Because you may need to make up a story to get her to help or bring Lin somewhere else where no one will suspect a thing.” “Yes. We helped her out in the past. She knows us.” “Then maybe you won’t have too many problems with that. Next, this place needs to be sealed to stop anyone else from snooping around. Letting you all here was a mistake, so I’ll be the one to make sure no one else sees this. However, once we leave this place, no one else must know about it unless someone absolutely must. Be careful with whom you share this information, but it would be best to stay quiet about it. Before heading off, you should know that the glyphs we examined earlier, the ones Lin copied? They glowed earlier. I think whatever it was that warned us might be closer than we think.” There was much to go over now that all these events had quickly come to pass, and Sen could figure out where to start. They’d be leaving for the meeting with the elders in less than two days, and now they’ve got a new threat looming over them if they insist on investigating the glyphs. The message was clear that there would be consequences if they pursued this new lead, but could one be faulted for just ignoring this threat for now? It was highly doubtful that anyone in their right mind could just let this stay unresolved; now they have to be careful about what information they’d be disclosing, especially with Lin unconscious. Ghilan could have just as many questions and concerns if he found out. It was Omen’s comment about something coming that got the two remaining longma worried, questioning whether they’d done so much harm that the villages could soon be in jeopardy. “I don’t doubt the longma could be in danger, but we were told that we ‘will be made to serve once more.’ The old tales say that the longma were enslaved once, so that might be what it meant. Then again, the ghost also said that we ‘know not what we seek’ because it is not meant for us. I’d say that was a warning to stop us from searching for something.” “For now, it’s a threat, and whatever it is, we won’t take it lightly. Let’s get Lin to safety first, then we’ll find answers. Any lead we have is better than nothing, Omen; we could go to the scholars and see what they know afterward.” If the scholars are still getting their golem bodies, then they might be up for a quick discussion on what the other focal orb was and if there are more of them. They may be different creatures altogether, but the magic and tool used was a little too similar to the one they used to seal themselves in long ago. Either they were not as forthcoming as everyone thought, or something eventually discovered their methods and used it for their own ends. Whatever it may be, the answers may have to come soon lest it complicate their situation further. Sen placed his unconscious sister on his back, ready to leave for the next destination.
  22. @Blitz Boom “It’s happened before?! Of all the things… Never mind. Maybe something she said triggered this. We need to get Lin back safely, but be careful. We don’t know what’s got its hold on her.” Xin didn’t fully grasp what was happening, but this possession wasn’t the first time. Once before, during Legion’s takeover of the village, another such instance occurred. He got lucky he was out cold the last time, but one could only guess whether having no knowledge of the event was considered a mercy. Sen was reminded of his own instance, feeling trapped in his body as some other creature took control, making him say and do things that he’d never dare do to those he cared about. Now it’s happening again, and he had to hope Lin was fighting it from the inside, as he couldn’t attack without knowing the consequences. “Know your place, lowly creature. This vessel is a slave to our needs, as are others like your companions. They have been let loose long enough, and they will be made to serve once more.” “We aren’t anyone’s servants! Now let our sister go!” “Lin” looked to Sen, eyes twitching as whatever’s got its control over her to start walking. Each step was stiff, legs jerking forward until it saw Omen holding the orb. She eventually chose to ignore Sen’s demands to release his sister, instead fixating on the orb Lin held earlier. This odd creature, the Ki’Nathar, spoke with authority yet had none. An insult that still piqued interest. Just what was it that drew her to the longma? A question that would have no answer for now, but given the being’s curiosity, “Lin” would humor Omen for now and learn what it can. After all, they were different, but they regarded each other on a familial level. This was an unprecedented development, at least to whoever was speaking through Lin. “Your concerns for this vessel are of no import. What you hold is but a focal orb, a seal to hold things of great value. This one is a message: Do not pursue us. The knowledge you seek is not for you. Persist and reap the consequences, for you are not meant to learn the truth. The message has been given, our purpose completed.” Though possibly unbeknownst to Sen and Omen, the glyphs on the wall, the same ones shown to Rosa and examined by everyone present earlier, also began to glow. Xin was nearby when he first picked up on this, staring in wide-eyed amazement at what was happening. At the same time, the orb Omen held shook, with cracks appearing on its surface. Its magic grew unstable, and with it, Lin’s body began twitching and shaking even more violently. Sen looked on to his sister, then to Omen, showing genuine terror in his eyes, silently begging her to do anything that could stop something worse from happening to Lin. However, before anyone could act, the orb shattered into several pieces, releasing whatever magic was held within and dissipating it into thin air like vapor. The breaking of the orb severed Lin’s connection to whatever was controlling her, and her now unconscious body dropped to the ground, barely caught by Sen. Likewise, the glyphs’ glow also disappeared, returning the atmosphere in the ruins to normal. Xin rushed over to his friend to see if he could help, even if it was checking on Lin to see if she would be okay. For now, she remained unconscious, unaware of everyone’s concerns for her safety. As for Xin, he looked to the others, filled with guilt and remorse for the sudden turn of events. “I’m sorry, everyone. I didn’t know this would happen; the ruins were safe the last time I studied them. What did we get ourselves into?”
  23. @Blitz Boom “Definitely looks like the last one we found, but I am not sure. I hope it does something more than just make these carved words glow because we’ll be back to having just about nothing to work with. Let’s have a closer look.” Lin examined the glowing text, now having the orb nearby. It doesn’t look like the type to have voices in it ready to speak with them, but knowing what kind of devices these were from prior experience, having someone talk to them through it wasn’t out of the ordinary. The longma spent about a few minutes examining the text, and, though seemingly alien, she began to mouth off a few words, while the orb itself released an ominous, dark miasma that enveloped the room, then around her. “Let’s see. Ghil-dirthalen, ma halam’shivanas… Ma banal las halamshir var vhen… Dirthara-ma; mala suledin nadas. Not all of this is understandable, and the text is broken at parts, but from what I can read, it says: ‘Seeker of knowledge, you sacrifice duty… You do not further our people... May you learn; now you must endure.” Seemingly empty words at first, but eventually, Lin deciphering this text as if it was second nature to her was about as unexpected as it got. Even she paused at how she could just read these despite never having encountered this written language in her life. The other longma present were just as astounded, but Xin paused to reconsider what he had just heard, only ending up at one possible, albeit incredulous, conclusion. “That was the old tongue, a language only the elders could speak. What’s more curious is that the longma know this isn’t a written language. Why is there writing about it and how can you speak it?” “I don’t know how I could understand this, but it felt natural as if I knew this already even though I had never seen these words before. When I was young, I listened and learned, picked up some words here and there when others spoke. At times, I asked about it, though I knew I wouldn’t use it at all. Some time ago, I recall coming across a book that had this writing as well, but I didn’t believe that was possible either. A language only thought to be spoken now having written records is— Ugh… Something… wrong…” “Lin? Sister, what’s happening?” “Can’t think… Thoughts… slipping away….” The longma winced, one claw clutching her head, but once some of the miasma dispersed, those present in the cave could see what remained of the dark and sickly cloud enveloping and eventually being absorbed by Lin, while she fought it as best he could. Sen quickly ran in but not before stopping in his tracks with his sister’s attention coming back. “Halt,” the longma spoke again after seemingly regaining control, but there was something off about her speech. One moment, she was struggling to let the others know that she needed help; now she resumed with a monotonous drawl as if someone was using her body and voice to speak, as evidenced by her body’s periodic twitching. “Lin” looked at everyone present with a dull look with only the whites of her eyes visible. “Cease your search and pursue no further. You know not what you seek.”
  24. @Blitz Boom “Farewell, Rosa. We’ll be careful, and we hope to return with good news in the coming days. Wishing you all the best!” Lin smiled and bowed to her friend before heading back, but she would do well to remember his advice. There was a time and place for everything, and perhaps being around Feng was the time to accept that fighting back wasn’t a wise option. With Ghilan already warning them about their aggression, they were in a delicate situation, and making things worse won’t help their case. Once they said their farewells, the Ki’Nathar and longma returned to the ruins, where Sen and Xin were fixated on a tablet. They didn’t seem to notice them, but they might have found something of interest, and Lin was just as curious as them. Omen’s rather… odd ways of inspecting the eventually got the two to notice them, as the licking was just bizarre enough to snap the two out of their hyper-focused study. “Aah! Oh, I… didn’t notice you were back. I suppose this means you have good news, sister?” “In a sense. Rosa said he can have a look at the glyphs and see if they match up colocations in Equestria, but we need to give him time. He’s got his own matters to handle, and that means we’ll have to handle some of the investigating ourselves. So, what are you looking at?” “A slab containing some writing or what looks like writing. Sen and I found it tucked away in the corner of the room, but we can’t tell what it says if it is saying anything at all. Either way, it might be some kind of ancient language, and we are just about out of ideas.“ “This may be wishful thinking, but would you like to have a look and see if this is likely something you encountered in your travels? Likewise, Omen, would you like to have another attempt at examining this? If it is some old language, perhaps you might have seen it from somewhere. In all honesty, I am just about considering leaving this here for the time being and going home because we could be looking at something that doesn’t make sense to us.” It definitely caught Xin off that Omen was rather eccentric in her approach, but she had the right idea to look around the ruins for more clues. There wouldn’t be more to see, but treasures beneath the rubble could be present. Whether they had a certain “scent” or identifying mark was another matter, but there wouldn’t be more symbols like the ones seen on the slab. However, if Omen were to poke around the distant corner of the room by some fallen stones and other loose debris, she might come across another artifact for study: an orb, just like the one containing the scholars. This one didn’t seem to have anything special going for it, and there wouldn’t be any replies if one were to attempt communications. It was about as normal as it could get until one was to bring it closer to the slab… Now if bought in proximity to the carved words, they’d glow a faint blue, highlighting each but still not providing much in the way of a translation. They have something to work with, but further investigation would reveal if any of this is significant.
