Well, if they don't see it, that's not your fault. But if they block you for mentioning them, were they truly your friend? You deserve friends that care about you and won't get so easily offended.
Personally, I do my best to try and get to know people on an individual level. Some like being mentioned, and maybe some don't. I've learned things ahead of time, I've learned things the hard way. But the important thing is that you are willing to learn and make a note of things for each individual friend. So take the time to ask and learn from each friend what they're okay with, and you'll never have to ask yourself "Am I bothering them by doing this?".
