Xbox currently struggle to get sales in triple digits

microsoft has no one but themselves to blame

I don't understand how Microsoft thinks they can effectively sell Xbox with all the consoles exclusives going over to PC. What incentive does the consumer have to buy an Xbox if all its games can be played in far superior versions on the PC instead? :o

It just doesn't make sense. As Xbox stands currently, they are basically only servicing the low-information crowd, or super low budget consumers (I got mine new with Halo 5, Gears Ultimate, Rare Replay, and Ori for only $250 and this was several months before black friday of last year; oh and it was a 1TB version btw).

So I guess I basically just answered my own question xD Super low budget, entry level system for little kids and impoverished families; not exactly the worst position to be in. Although, the Project Scorpio seems to go against that stance completely >.>

  2. Ok, so I have ruminated over this concept for awhile now. I think I my impressions of this have finally settled.

Sega is directly appealing to the worst part of the Sonic fanbase in order to secure more buyers. So many DeviantArt frequenters will be ecstatic to see this kind of thing implemented in Sonic Forces, no doubt. While I find the very idea of canon OC's revolting, judging by what the trailer has shown gameplay-wise, it looks like it could actually be quite an interesting hook, if the execution is good. I can't say I am very fond of how the base for these animals look. They just look weird. Doesn't seem to be very much customization, like height, weight, age, etc. But the clothing options look hella in depth. I love how each animal has a different ability like the bird OC's having an extra jump or the bear OC being able to knock several enemies away with each attack. There is definitely potential here.

Unfortunately, it seems as though the level design is extremely lackluster for this 3rd character. I was really hoping for something akin to the Sonic Adventure 2 Sonic/ Shadow stages instead of this Sonic Colors-esque nonsense. Sigh... well, we will see in due time if the game turns out good or not. Until then, we can only wait :o

How many friendship songs have we gotten with the Mane6? It seems they break into songs about how such good friends they are every week. But now compare that to Twilight and Spike's songs about their friendship- there are none. It's pretty depressing, seeing as how Spike was Twilight's first ever friend, in the first place (not counting her BBBFF)

Yes! We need more Twilight x Spike sibling love Goddammit! xD This is the reason I liked Owl's Well That Ends Well so much! More "on screen" bonding between these two characters, DHX!!!

It's hard to place the blame solely on Microsoft. People seem to forget that video games are a business like everything else. If they're paying a game developer to make a game and the developer cannot meet their obligations in a timely manner then why should they not halt development of the game? I'm pretty sure they could have compromised on getting it to run properly and they chose not to. And why should Microsoft not hold on to the license? It was Microsoft's IP not Platinum Games'. That being said, it was disappointing and I would have liked for the game to be released.

To be fair, I assumed Nier: Automata wasn't going to be coming to the Xbox One, but I am sure the whole fallout with Platinum Games did not help either. It is disappointing, but it is what it is. I can't say I am a huge fan of Japanese games. I mean, it's always nice to have more games released for your console, but I will live without them...but hey at least we're still getting some games like Valkyria Revolution, right?

This is completely unrelated, but has any one seen the anime Eromanga-Sensei? In one of the episodes they show that the MC's little sister had both an Xbox One(or Y Box) and a PS4 in her room. It made me think that maybe they don't completely hate the Xbox over there.

I don't understand why they couldn't just make the game a Project Scorpio exclusive. There would have been zero issue getting it to run on that thing, considering it's hardware's capabilities. I know "Uncle Phil" said something about wanting all Xbox games to run on all iterations of their hardware, with no exclusives for the new console refresh, BUT why just throw away all that work? Personally, I was super excited to play Scalebound, and it was the sole reason I decided to hold on to my Xbox One as long as I did. After hearing about the cancellation, however, it really hit me hard, especially since there are no upcoming Xbox console exclusives that interest me in the least.

The whole thing with NieR:Automata, was that it was supposed to be the Sony Exclusive, while Scalebound functioned as the Microsoft exclusive. That way Platinum had one "AAA" game on each console (also, don't forget Bayonetta 2's exclusivity to the Wii U).

I have no doubt in my mind that Japan in no way "hates" Xbox. They just don't have much interest in the games it offers. Where are all the JRPGs? Playstation 4. Where are all the Japanese fighting games like SFV, Guilty Gear, Tekken7, etc? Playstation 4. Where are all the otaku-bait, omega-kyawaii~ sexual fanservicey games? Playstation 4 and Vita. It follows to reason if Microsoft REALLY wanted Japanese consumers to buy their console, they would entice them by securing exclusivity of these types of games. Phil Spencer has said on multiple occasions that he believes Xbox as a brand is doing perfectly fine. It's not as if Xbox One is bombing worldwide like the Wii U. IIRC Xbox One has sold over 26 million units; a far cry from Wii U's 13 million. Sure Ps4 has sold over 55 million, but that doesn't mean Xbox is failing. So, with Xbox being satisfied with its overall performance sales-wise, it seems as though enticing Japanese consumers is just not in their current agenda. Again, I find this disheartening due to the majority of titles I like being Japanese, but I understand MIcrosoft's position.

There do exist Japanese gamers who prefer more western game design also, so lets not write them out of the equation. Xbox One is great for FPS's and Racing games. Ps4 is better for pretty much everything else.

  5. Don't forget about the single biggest driving force behind Xbox in the Japanese market:

    s-l1600.jpg

    92523_front.jpg

    158602_front.jpg

^Which was exclusive to the Xbox 360 up until Idolm@ster 2 :o Unfortunately, this series went from being an Xbox exclusive selling more Xbox's in Japan than any other game, to a PS4 exclusive in the form of Idolmaster Platinum Stars -.-  (The "Platinum Collection" on the three above images basically equates to the games selling extremely well; so like Platinum Hits in western territories).

From Wikipedia: "The Xbox 360 port of The Idolmaster sold 25,000 copies in its first week of sale and was the fifteenth best selling console video game in Japan for the time of its release. The port has been credited with making Japan's ratio of sign-ups for Xbox Live compared to the number of consoles sold as the world's highest. Over four times as many Microsoft points were sold on the date of The Idolmaster's Xbox 360 release as on the date before it."

"Live For You! sold 44,000 copies in its first week of release in Japan, and ranked as the fifth best-selling video game in Japan that week"

Aside from Idolm@ster, more recently on Xbox One you have games like Recore and the ill-fated Scalebound. As far as I am aware, Scalebound was canceled by the heads at Xbox, not the actual Japanese developers. They were struggling getting it to run properly on Xbox One, and instead of sinking any more funds into getting Scalebound on Xbox One, they just halted development alltogether, while simultaneously holding onto the liscense so Ps4 couldn't have it either. Very awful business practice, considering how much work was put into developing Scalebound.

I'm not denying Japanese are extremely nationalistic when it comes to the videogame market, but still, they did make an effort however slim, to sell Xbox consoles in Japan

Also, don't forget Nier was originally on the Xbox 360 as well as Ps3. Once again, it was only with the advent of the Ps4/ Xbone that Japan decided to keep a once multiplatform series as exclusive to their own territory's console. NieR:Automata was the best new game I have played in the past 10 years (outside of Xenoblade Chronicles X) btw =^-^=

  8. No way! MLP has been going UPHILL since its inception! :o

G1 - awful voice acting, bad writing, annoying villains, stupid barbie/ ken wannabie humans throwing their weight around overshadowing the ponies >.< (although, I'll admit I like the more "fantasy" inspired setting)

G2 - better writing for character interactions but extremely stupid plotlines with an "Idk my BBF Jill" kinda vibe (if thats not too abstract for ya'll o,o)

G3 - braindead writing, but very VERY heartwarming plotlines and character interactions. awesome show for escapism~

G3.5 - moving towards G4's style of more "mature" narratives, more relatable roster of characters, but with very lackluster animation

    G3.5 Newborn Cuties - https://youtu.be/H07zYvkNYL8?t=2s

G4 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MC0G-Lbuuk  - Awesome witty writing never before seen in MLP. Great fluidity in character interactions and just a general feeling of genuineness and chemistry between characters. Awesome Voice acting awesome songs, just plain AWESOME

Season to season G4 progression (in my personal opinion):

  9. Teen Titans Go, Ben 10, and PPG 2016 are the main rebooted CN shows, right? Are their any others I am forgetting, perhaps even other shows on different networks? None come to mind.

Out of those three, I would give the following ratings:

    • Teen Titans Go - 5.5/10 - Some decent, witty humor in a select few episodes. Call backs and continuity to the original is rampant across the board (complete with in jokes only fans would know). The show clearly does not take itself seriously at all, and intends to be as stupid as possible (which I generally don't mind since lampshading is "a-ok" in my book xD)
    • Power Puff Girls (2016) - 5/10 - Colorful, laid-back, occasionally charming. Unfortunately, the new PPG has disappointed me too many times to count to let it's strengths shine through. Oftentimes, awful animation errors plague the show. In general, the character models just look "off" to me. And the inclusion of modern age tween pandering memes, cultural references and the like come off as extremely cringy. It's a shame since there are several things I do genuinely like about the show. Unlike most rabid fans of the original, I don't actually think the new voice actresses are inherently inferior to the old ones. Some of the line delivery can be iffy in places, but the voices themselves just sound "right", especially for Blossom.
    • Ben 10 (2016) - 7.5/10 - Pretty much already summed this up above, but I like the balance of action to comedy. I like the new art style and the "cutesy" chibi-ish look of the main characters. I like the vibrant colors and the artsy fartsy painting-esque backgrounds. I like the general atmosphere, the "monster of the day" format, the voice acting, and countless other things. It's cool to see a reboot like this maintaining its core appeal while simultaneously building upon it to suit my own preferences xD Which is something I can unfortunately not say for the above two reboots.

TTG and PPG2016 are like stark opposites to one another. TTG aims to shit upon everything sacred to the original Teen Titans in the name of comedy and often succeeds (imo). PPG2016 tries to capture the original show's appeal while bringing more character depth/ progression into the mix and unfortunately ends up failing the majority of the time. Both of these shows strive to do completely different things with series I once held dear, yet they both end up feeling very "mediocre" imo.

Perhaps it is my lack of fondness for the original Ben 10 that prevents me from feeling the same as with TTG and PPG2016. While the original Teen Titans and PPG were lofty 9-10/10's for me, Ben10 always sat around a 6-ish/10 :/ Idk, but I would at least like to believe there is something else there that makes Ben 10's reboot objectively superior to the other two in question xD

  10. People hate G3 because of the obscenely scary horse faces D:

    ^The stuff of nightmares, I swear :o

But use the old G4 machine and it fixes everything!

    ^Kawaii, sock-loving ditzy pony; 150% Brony approved!

The other reason people don't like G3 is it is clearly targeted to a VERY young female demographic; with messages like "Every girl is a princess in her own heart and the hearts of her friends". Not to mention the insanely OVERSATURATED color palette, which will have any adult experiencing eyestrain after a mere 40 minutes!

^Ugh, those colors are making me want to vomit as I type Q.Q

It is quite a shame since, on occasion, the bright vibrant visuals create quite the (tasteful) spectacle never before seen in any other Gen of MLP!

    93151200629d05855208c0bd8588036e454cc354

^Screenshot straight from the show (from the episode "Come Back Lily Lightly fyi, which just so happens to be my 3rd favorite ep of G3 /)^3^(\ ) Scenes like this just evoke such potent emotions from me; it's like something straight out of a dream from my childhood ^///^

Another reason people don't particularly care for G3 as a whole, is the super saccharine tone and braindead writing. It comes off as pandering to youngsters in the same kinda way as Dora the Explorer (treat your viewers with some RESPECT, gosh dang darnit! xD)

Lastly, I'd say it lacks the incredible musical numbers of generation 4. Nothing even close to being on par with "Pony I wanna Be" or "The Magic Inside" for example. However, I have managed to find quite a few songs from G3 that have impressed me on all fronts:

^Some really quality stuff, if i do say so myself :o

G3 has been the butt of jokes for countless years on the interwebz. It wasn't until G4 came out and shattered all prior expectations that MLP finally garnered some respect from the adult cartoon-loving community. While G3 is a far cry from the lofty heights of cinematographic and literary mastery exhibited in G4, it STILL has quite a lot of entertainment value if you are willing to go in with an open mind and dig deep enough.

My personal top 3 episodes would be:

    #1 The Runaway Rainbow

#2 Friends Are Never Far Away

    #3 Come Back Lily Lightly

  11. I'm probably going to sound like a heathen here, but I actually find myself enjoying the new Ben 10 reboot, despite never liking any of the previous Ben 10 series. I don't mind the larger focus on comedy. It comes off as a Jackie Chan Adventures/ Static Shock/ MLaaTR/ Powerpuff Girls- type of show. A nice balance of sillyness and action, with some pretty aesthetically-pleasing visuals to boot. Not every episode is a "home-run" and I'm not claiming the show to be amazing or anything, but every episode I have watched thus far I feel both interested enough to continue watching as well as fairly satisfied with it after it's over; which is not something I can say for the vast majority of other cartoons out there.

I know most people will claim "Oh it's just Teen Titans Go bastardization all over again". Honestly, I feel as though even Teen Titans Go gets more hate than it deserves (and this is coming from a HUGE fan of the original Teen Titans). But Most assuredly, TTG is an enormous step down from the original show it spun off of. With Ben 10 I feel the opposite. The original show just sort of... bored me. Ben 10 strived to deliver a more "serious" type of kid's show which was typical at the time with the likes of Avatar TLAB and the aforementioned Teen Titans, to name a few. But Ben 10 always came off as a bit too immature, while simultaneously taking itself too seriously. It is hard to put into context, but it simply did not hook me like the other two examples I provided. I wasn't all that fond of the whole "scifi-aliens" overtones in the original. Nor did the visuals do much for me; they just seemed so drab and lifeless...

Again, I don't mean to shit on anyone's childhood here xD The new Ben 10 just does much more for me than any of the others in the Ben 10 series.
