    Everyone has their own story or experiences with Luna. Some passing memory or thoughts. But here is mine…

    How interesting that this story begins precisely on the topic of moderation.
    Because it is exactly in this moment that I had initiated a conversation with this user.

    Ages ago, there was a group growing in an attempt to rile other users with topics of politics, religion, harassment and things of that nature. I remember warning moderation about this group gaining momentum, but nobody listened until things sort’ve blew up and got out of control.

    So I had to take matters into my own hooves to try to figure out what they were up to.

    During this attempt, I noticed that they targeted Luna as the perfect candidate. They always knew him to enjoy the topic of politics and debate. A perfect recruit for their attempt to hurt other users. I narrowed my eyes suspiciously as I watched the invitation go out from a spy who was reporting the observation... and I was pleasantly surprised to see Luna immediately declined engaging in such destructive behaviour towards the community and its user base respectfully.

    I was … flummoxed. And this would begin the initiation of a letter explaining to Luna that I appreciate his being part of this gentle community. He was perplexed. But we carried on as I managed moderation to break up the weird group of bullies.

    Eventually, this would lead to my having to remove a combustable section called The Debate Pit. TDP was used to rile users up with hot, controversial topics and lead to many a ban, warning or conflict between users and staffers alike. Divisions, insults, emotional havoc and feelings of injustices ran amok.

    We were also investigating some strange behaviour with another user so the loud noise caused by the TDP needed to be temporarily suspended. Users were grateful for its removal and it was later decided to move it over to an extended sister site. But that is not what this topic was about.

    Luna, The Great of All of Russias, while a quiet observer… simply had to stand up to me about this move I made. I calmly explained to him that there was a lot going on for the time being and to please be patient with staff as we managed matters before the dust would settle and we could bring the aspect back to the site again in some way, shape or form. For anyone interested, we now have Twilight’s Soap Box by Simon which Luna may be moderating with his impartial skill. 

    As I explained to him about the removal of that section, it was difficult to trust me, since I was simply an admin who removed something that brought someone delight... yet, he somehow understood.

    He… begrudgingly agreed. And this stood out to me. This peaceful, calm, gentleman user… had the sharp observation skills to not only see there was more going on to such a seemingly simple move, but he was able to stand up for something he believed in. Calmly and respectfully. This stood out to me since most users of that section were volatile and easily riled up.

    Even towards an admin who vehemently disagreed.

    Another thing about Luna, he was always very caring and observing of the community. You may not know him, but if you’ve hung out here in the forums, then he knows you. And he’s always cared in a neutral and calmly observant way. He was always making reports, always showing concern, always noting behaviours that might stand out about users and potentially help the site or community in some way, shape or form.

    This stood out to both staff and moderation.

    While Luna and I are literally on the opposite spectrum politically, spiritually and in many other aspects as well, I did not oppose to his application of joining moderation for these traits of his alone. But I left it to staff and Head of Moderation to decide and it appears he had already caught their eye!

    He has been a ninja-mode moderator in training for quite some time since. He’s cleaned up and helped to manage the site while also being a wonderful presence to everyone around him.

    Later, Luna would confess to me that he always observed me as a ball of energy and perceived me the way one would perceive candy. Sure, it’s sweet. But too much of it and you might get a stomach ache, so he always kept his distance and lurked in the debate section away from engaging with me in any way. We’ve been frienemies ever since. :ithastolookpretty:

    So, welcome to Moderation! Ya miscreant.

    Let the wars begin... Legend has it that you will have to tolerate our shenanigans...

    and yeah, Poland is amazing! I went there to meet @Sir Hugsalotand it was loads of fun! You’ve got good forum friends happy to meet up if you ever go! LOL we once tried to prank Sir by pulling him to this ridiculous theme park called EnergyLandia LOL maybe we’ll drag you there next time :orly:
