Oh. In that case, I may need to skip you, since my current round of random facts are about computers and technology. I probably can't surprise you with any of the facts I have.

Yes, it's because you can access this memory (read and/or write) in any order you desire at any time and you do not need to wait until the location becomes available.
In contrast to an random access memory would be for example an old magnetic tape where you would have to wait until the tape has been fast forwarded to the position you want to access
