  1. Just 1.4 pounds more until I reach "normal" weight for the first time in over a decade! :D

  2. I did it! I went to the astronomy club meeting! In your face, me!! :proud:

  3. Well, tomorrow's the astronomy club meeting. I'm not backing down, but I can't lie; I'm pretty nervous internally. Part of me wants to stay home and pretty much do anything else instead, but that's not happening.

  4. Oh dear lord, someone uploaded the Japanese Phoenix Wright musical on youtube. I don't know how to feel about this.

  5. Ok, I'm sick of being conflicted. I'm going to the astronomy club meeting Friday to see what it's all about, social phobias be damned.

  6. Have to love autoplaying videos... I was just listening to a podcast in the background, then all of a sudden, depressing egyptian flute music starts playing from another tab. I should make a plugin or something to whitelist autoplay.

Ok... never mind. Apparently browser extensions are all written in JavaScript now.

  7. I forgot how awesome tiling window managers and virtual desktops are. I think i'm going to search for something to incorporate this for work; I usually have like 5 instances of visual studio going and frequently get lost in them.

  8. Looks like my Network monitor is finally working reliably. Funny how many issues can arise from timezones. A major bug was caused by requesting data from negative 10:00. Whenever that was.

  9. Hey Zygen! If you come around visiting again, happy birthday!

  10. What a nice nap. I dreamed I ran into the champ lake monster and  got decent recording of it. No idea what brought that dream on, haven't thought about that stuff in over a decade.

  11. Hopefully I feel a bit better tomorrow. My back is sore from chasing Venus through the sky last night with my telescope. The base and the telescope weigh 50 pounds each... :scoots:

  12. Exciting night! I saw venus through my telescope! Nowhere near as pretty as Saturn or Jupiter, but I'm very happy I got to see it! I saw the beehive cluster in Cancer for a bit too, which was also pretty darn cool.

  13. My weakness for stuffed animals strikes again... Oh well, it's still cheaper than buying a new telescope lens...

  14. Price: $25. Shipping estimate: $40. Nice.

  15. It sucks when you reach the end of a series and you've grown attached to the characters.

  16. I thought the weather couldn't get much worse. Then came snow, the 90km/h gusts today. and then even more snow on the way.

Looks like the stars might be out of reach for the next week... :<

  17. The Ace Attorney anime is getting a new season for Trials and Tribulations! This is going to be awesome, that game had such a strong story.

  18. My KINGDOM for a cloudless night! The last two weeks have been absolutely trash for astronomy. I thought I might be able to beat the clouds tonight, but NOPE! Fog all over the place, making it impossible to focus on anything.

  19. ADVISORY: april fools day. trust nothing.

  20. Have to love it when you fix one obscure bug which results in cascading positive effects across your entire program.

  21. I'm conflicted. There's an astronomy club 40 minutes away from me that meets once every month on Friday evenings. Relatively painless drive with few turns. The social half of me wants to attend, the introvert in me doesn't. :okiedokieloki:

I understand how you feel. Which side of you is more dominant conscious wise? Go with that one.

  22. You know, there's a certain level of irony of being born on st patricks day and being a teetotaler.

  23. Holy crap staples is ripping people off for HDMI cables. $40 at the cheapest! Unbelievable!

The thing about HDMI cables though is that they transmit a digital signal. There's virtually no difference in quality between the $5 cable I ended up buying on amazon and that one. I bet they're making absolutely massive profit margins on those though.

Well, it's also about the material these were made of.

As for the visible transfer quality differences in HDMI cables - to be honest I can't tell that myself as I haven't really tested things yet, nor I'm not an expert in things like this.

I think you'd need a decent monitor (most likely gaming monitor)/TV to see the difference, if there would be any, that is.
There seem to actually be some parameters in them, such as supported maximum resolutions; transfer speed as well as some additional protection in cable design.

I had a chance to try an ultra cheap HDMI cable (for less than $2), that I found, and ... well, it worked. I wasn't working with 4K resolution much though- perhaps that's where things could be visible...

Either way after googling some HDMI cables, there are some, that go beyond $300. Now that's science. :derp:

I'm glad I have an unusually surplus of them

  24. Today was rough. I was operating on < 3 hours of sleep from last night because of a bad bout of insomnia. Looking forward to bed tonight.

Thank you very much! I did enjoy it. It'll be even more enjoyable on Friday when I don't have to get up at 5:30 :)

Oh that's great to hear! I have break from school right now so I've been able to sleep in as well.

  25. It's now safe to turn off your computer.
