"Well...just watch this..." Melody stated. She lit up her horn and made the wind hum a sweet Melody. This attracted a couple of birds, who perched themselves in Melody's mane and they sung a continuation of the tune. "It's how I got my...my...cutie mark...." Melody stated.

Cassidy gaped as Melody played the beautiful tune and attracted the birds. "Wow... that... that's incredible..." He looked at his flank. "My cutie mark is just about how much I like books." He looked back to her. "I can only do basic levitation. But thanks to other unicorns being able to perform better magic, I've been in a few magic mishaps..."

"Wh...magic...mishaps?" Melody asked as she stroked one of the birds and it chirped happily. One of them burrowed a little deeper into her mane. Melody then looked at Cassidy's cutie mark, which was a book. "Hmmm, I wonder what he's been though..." Melody thought to herself.

As he cleared his throat, Cassidy wondered if Melody would laugh or be horrified.

 

"Well, one time, I was helping my friend at his job; working at a joke shop. Now, the manager is a unicorn. So I was just standing behind the counter, suspecting nothing. Then I felt my belly expanding, followed by my flanks. I turned round to see the manager working his magic, with a sly grin on his face. He was literally blowing me up like a balloon! I could no longer move my limbs, and I was floating off the ground... I thought I was going to pop. He turned me back a few seconds later. I ran away as fast as I could. And frankly, I haven't a clue why my friend still works there.

Melody couldn't help it but smile and giggle. She in fact rolled on her back and revealed her somewhat naturally round belly. Once she realized that Cassidy was upside down, she realized she was belly-up in front of him. She blushed at this. "Sorry..." She said still having after-giggles.

Deciding not to make a quip about her belly, Cassidy grinned and shook his head. "Hey, it's okay. But I'm not sure you'd laugh at a prank Anala once played on Riley..." He lay down next to her, and placed his hoof near her own. "So, er, have you ever been involved in any magical incidents?"

"No...not really, but I...do have friends who have. My friend's twin brother had to go a day wearing a diaper and...well...he had to work at the weather factory and...he was nearly sent home by his boss because...he thought that...he did it for fun..." Melody explained as she unconsciously wrapped her hoof around Cassidy's.

Cassidy recalled a prank involving diapers when he and his friends were kids. He smiled, and allowed Melody to wrap a hoof around him. "Wait, what? Your friend's twin brother had to go a day wearing a diaper? How does that work? Also, where does magic come into it?"

"Well...see...in the middle of the night before that day...Thunder Dash...his brother...used his magic and made it appear tightly around him. In that morning...Electra Blitz, Thunder's brother, the one with the diaper, couldn't get it off until Thunder explained it to him. It was revenge for what he did to Thunder. And by the way...Thunder is...a pegasus who can wield electricity and...convert it into magic..." Melody stated still laying belly-up.

"Oh, yeah, Thunder Dash. That rings a bell. My friend told me about him. They were at a birthday party for an alicorn called Lightning Bliss," commented Cassidy. Gosh, what a lot of alicorns.

 

"Uh, if you don't mind me asking, what exactly did Electra Blitz do to Thunder Dash?"

"He...inflated his belly with his telekinetic abilities, and that...embarrassed Thunder in front of all of his friends..." Melody stated. "And who's this Lightning Bliss? I never even heard of her? Is she a...princess?" Melody asked as she rubbed her soft and round belly in front of Cassidy.

"Hm. I understand. I made Riley swear never to let Anala know, lest I be bombarded with 'balloon' and 'fatty'."

 

When Melody asked about Lightning Bliss, Cassidy rubbed the back of his head. "Apparently, yes, she is a princess. But I've never met her. Riley tells me that Thunder and Bliss already knew each other, so why don't you ask Thunder?"

"Hmmm, maybe I will...someday..." Melody stated. Suddenly Melody's stomach let out a rather loud growl, enough to make her blush and try to hide behind her mane again. "I guess...it's...that...time again..." She stuttered, trying not to get a wingboner from embarrassment.

"Perhaps I could introduce you to Clementia someday," suggested Cassidy. It was ironic, really. They were both timid, yet that was exactly what could help them become friends.

 

When Melody's tummy rumbled, Cassidy chuckled. "You hungry? Let me get us something. It's on me."

"Wh...what do you have to eat?" Melody asked as she rubbed her belly as it made tiny little noises after. She wanted to stay at the hotel, but now that she had met a new friend, which could possibly turn into a love affair, she did not want to hurt his feelings.

"Well, I have some fruit-and-nut bars in my saddlebags. Really help to boost your concentration, y'know? Which you need when you're reading a forty-chapter novel," he replied, tapping the side of his forehead. "Ready when you are," he said, getting up.

"Okay...I really don't know much about this place...I hope there's a cafe nearby..." Melody said as she rolled over and got up. The birds had flown away. She then started to walk slowly. "Are you...coming?" Melody asked as she stopped and looked at Cassidy and waited for him to come with her.

"Well, duh, of course! I mean, I'm the one who's taking you there," replied Cassidy with a chortle. "Uh, I don't mean that in a nasty way," he added quickly.

 

"I don't really know much about this place either, so perhaps we should familiarize ourselves," he said, as they walked along.

"I...I guess." Melody said as she continued to walk with Cassidy. She saw a bird fly above her. She played a tune with the wind from her horn and the bird flew down and continued the tune. It perched in her mane a little while. She then turned and looked at Cassidy with a faint smile on her face.

Cassidy smiled warmly as he watched Melody playing that harmonious tune and drawing a bird towards her.

 

A few more days with this sweet mare, and a tear might just end up falling down his cheek.

 

He opened the door to his room, and saw some books sprawled across the floor.

 

"Oh, yeah. Sorry..."

Melody saw the various books on the floor. "Wait...aren't going to go to the cafe?" Melody reminded Cassidy as she continued to eye the books on the floor.

"Actually, I did say I have fruit-and-nut bars in my saddlebag," replied Cassidy, unzipping his saddlebag and then holding out some bars. "I guess we could go to the cafe. This is really more brain-power food than hunger food."

"Okay..." Melody stated as she continued to look around. She then went to the door and waited for Cassidy to come. She almost stepped on a book with the title of "Divergent". She then thought about the book. She then picked it up. "What's...what's this book about?" Melody asked.

"Oh, that? That's a story about a young mare in a future version of (insert equine-related Chicago pun) and tries to join something called a faction. But I won't go into detail. I wouldn't want to spoil it. You can borrow it, if you like," said Cassidy, opening the door.

"Sounds a little...uhm...weird..." Melody stated as she went out the door. "Thanks." She said as she walked slowly toward the elevator. "Are you coming?" Melody asked Cassidy as she waited for him to come. She just stood there, hiding her face behind her mane again.
