I've known people who act like that but none of them have been religious. In my case, I ignored them (it was a group of guys who pissed everyone off) for about 2 years and nothing good came of it. One day one of them was picking on someone else in my class, I went over and told him to leave him alone. Now people didn't usually stand up to him, we all just ignored him but that day I just did for some reason. He stepped over to me and said something threatening, I can't remember what exactly. I just told him to stop ruining everyone's day. Then a bunch of other people in the class came over and told him off as well. That had never happened before. It pretty much shut him up permanently.

 

What was I going to say again? Oh yeah. I think the best thing to do is try to get the other people who hate his behaviour to stand up to him as well. Hopefully that's helpful.
