Hmm.. I can't recall anything off the top of my head.

Maybe it wasn't directly the premiere of season 4, but just the whole buildup discussion.

Infact, a lot of members are much less active here until it nears the next season, so maybe it just so happened alot of members decided to start getting involved in discussions that day.

That's my only real theory i've got, maybe the reason it wasn't on the date of the premiere is because a bunch of people were busy watching or something?

Yeah that's all I got, that's my super random, i just made this theory right now, theory thing...

Don't think it was anything earth-shattering. Mid to late 2013 was probably one of our most active times. Probably just a bunch of factors off-site and on-site that contributed to it. Someone could probably cross-analyze announcements and episode premiers and other things around that time, but I know I'm too lazy to.

I recommend reading my analysis and charts.

The data about forums is collected via the member search feature which means that deactivated accounts aren't accounted in charts.

However I noticed that there's a quite lot of members with deactivated accounts in old threads(2012-2013). I even recognized some of them. These people don't strike me as troublemakers and I wouldn't expect them to get banned. But I don't know what happened since I haven't been closely following the forums for a long time.

I wonder how common is practice of deactivating accounts and whether or not it affects the charts in a significant way.

Honestly, I believe it's nothing but irony.

While it's possible that it could have been, as Zygen said, a build-up to Season 4, it's nothing but coincidental.

Think of members logging on MLP Forums as raindrops hitting the ground, the raindrops that hit the ground simultaneously represent users on at the same time. The chances of all of them hitting at the same time aren't common, but when it happens, it creates an event such at this.

As I said, pure irony. But I do feel that the Season 4 hype could have played apart in increased member activity significantly.

Well if you exclude banned members and non active accounts, I would say that the number of members have increased since 2013. However, the excruciating wait of another season can drastically drop the site's population by a smudge.

Hopefully this is relevant to anything anyone is discussing here.
