I think her real name is most likely Smith Apple but is likely called Granny Smith well since she became a granny as a sort of nickname.

She could have just been nammed granny, and since she is the most amazing grandmother ever her name became the colloqual term for amazing grandmother.

Yeah, I agree I can't remember anywhere in the show where they make her name as a young un cannon!

 

I like the Annie smith to Granny Smith idea but I'm thinking that she would just be called Granny Smith in defiantly!
