ggg-2 3,555 July 17, 2014 Share July 17, 2014 In the titular episode, Applejack states that Applebuck season is their name for harvesting time. however, in many episodes that AREN'T during applebuck season, she and her family are seen harvesting apples anyway. So what makes the Applebuck season any different than any other time? Don't be a nerd. Join the herd!
ChangelingPhilosophy 45 July 17, 2014 Share July 17, 2014 I guess that's when all of the orchards are in their prime time. They mention south fields and west fields and such, so maybe she's harvesting those.
Marciblook 612 July 17, 2014 Share July 17, 2014 Yeah, I just assume she's harvesting for everyday use, and a few other baskets to sell off for money each day, but yeah, apple buck season they do the whole orchard 1 Things are changing
Lightwing 12,980 July 17, 2014 Share July 17, 2014 On my opinnion, this is how it works: -During normal time(non Applebuck Season),the full orchard is divided into 4 parts. The normal harvest takes one of the four parts each time, and, while the recently harvested one waits for restoring, they do another one. -On Applebuck Season, the FULL orchard is harvested, due for, probably,a big need of apples during that time of the year, hence the Applebuck Season At least for me,it has sense :/ 1 ~~ Forum Rules - Forum FAQ - What do you think of me? ~~
I used to be a stranger 7,994 July 17, 2014 Share July 17, 2014 (edited) Different cultivars of apples mature and become ripe at different parts of the season. They could be taking this to a bit of an extreme in order to make it chronologically convenient for the plot ["in which Applejack must buck some apples for whatever reason" for example], thusly: Different fruits come into season at various times throughout the year. Asparagus becomes available to pick and eat in May. Cucumber, Peas and Strawberries in June. Carrots, raspberries, cherries, peaches and tomatoes in July. Apples and squash in August (until November). This is by no means an exhaustive list, but it provides an example. Mint, Basil and other rampant-growing herbs are pretty much the only things which grow "year round", aka all non-snowing months. truth is life 76 July 17, 2014 Share July 17, 2014 I'm going to be boring and suggest that it's the writers not having any sense of time. Or rather, what Blue says, with them taking the (actual, legitimate) variance in ripening times and stretching them out so that Applejack always has some apples to buck. That way, they can always just show Applejack bucking trees as a generic "she's busy/working" signal, which I guess might be less confusing for the target demographic than if they harvested a variety of produce during the year and apples only at one time. Something similar is going on in how they always seem to be planting apple seeds when they're plowing fields and such, since trees don't work that way.
Adorkable 2,737 July 18, 2014 Share July 18, 2014 Well, I would say it's a special season for all who live in Ponyville, since Sweet Apple Acres is Ponyville's primary food source.

Ponyville looks like it's dependent on a variety of food sources, and apples are not a staple of any animal's diet's I'm aware of. Least of which equines. I think Apple Bloom's statements saying Ponyville would starve without apples was a bit of an immature oversimplification.
hip-indeed 304 July 19, 2014 Share July 19, 2014 (edited) I'd say the main explanation would be that the apples grow and are harvestable more than just once per year, Applebuck Season is simply the very peak time that the entire orchard can be harvested, and needs to be ASAP for maximum profit. But in a sillier and more less-thoughtful but perhaps equally-likely way, the writers for the show may just have not bothered to adhere to only one time per year being the time to harvest so we can get some bucking action and expisodes like Family Appreciation Day more than once per "year" in-show. Or perhaps many of the times we see really are applebuck seasons and they happen more than once per year, and simply aren't proclaimed as such by the characters every time. *edit* Ooooh, and now I'm a muffin! Shanks 10,817 July 20, 2014 Share July 20, 2014 It is heavily implied that it is special because it is Applejack's busiest season, it could be because that is when a lot of Apples go ripe, an effort to stockpile as many apples as possible to prepare for Winter or possible both.
