Okay first sorry if I reminded you of a death of a animal but I felt I should discuss this....

I once lost a cat very close to me he could strangely cheer me up when I was sad he was calm, lovable and honestly would not hurt anyone he would never scratch or bite he was pretty much my life to me I actually grew up with him making it even harder to let him go but sadly he died from old age....R.i.p Jake it's all I got to say as much as I miss him he has at least somehow helped me though life and oh course I will miss him...

so have you guys ever lost any animals that have pretty much changed you or made you who you are? hopefully we can discuss it it may help me and maybe you feel better about it....

I just sketched up a quick picture of him.... untitled_drawing_by_kerriecat-d7vdgv9.pn

it's not my best at all and I plan to do a better version but here is a drawn picture of him I guess...

About a week ago, we had to put our black cat, Lucy to sleep, due to an extended illness.  This one was a difficult one to deal with because she was only about 6 years old and was a healthy cat as far as we knew.  She had a rough start in life and had been rejected by the first people who adopted her and  taken back to the pound and ended up there for another year before she came home with us.  I promised to myself that we'd  give her a happy life and feel like I failed  despite everything  the vets tried to save her.  This one hit us particularly hard and I still find myself looking for her when I come home from work.

Yeah it's understanding although Jake died from old age it hit me just as much and I felt I did something wrong....the loss of a pet you love is hard.

My cat hasn't passed away yet, but she only has a year or two left according to the vets. This is kind of upsetting for me because she's only 8 years old. I was expecting her to live longer. It sucks, because my previous cat died young as well. Anyways, I've had this cat as long as I can remember. We got her the summer after I finished 4th grade, and I just recently graduated High School so it seems like I've had her forever. It's hard to believe we've had her for eight years already. She changed my life for sure. She makes everyone in my house happier, because she's a little sweetheart. I've very happy that we adopted her.

Here's a picture of her.

I'm sorry for everyone's losses here on this thread. At least we all had the chance to know these animals, and to have them be a part of our life. :)

I remember when my old dog passed away... she didn't change my life, but I really missed having her around.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that I'm sorry to hear about everyone's losses, but like Mikami said, it's nice to know that they got to be a part of your life. :)

I remember my Dalmatian I had and losing her impacted me very much.  She was like.........my best friend (yet we all know that Dogs are a Man's Best Friend).  Looking into getting a new one very soon, :)

I lost my dog Perdi a few years ago, but I still miss her all the time. We decided to put her to sleep her after she went deaf, became bone thin, and had trouble walking :( But even while she was suffering, she was the sweetest dog in the world. My family got her when I was around 5. She was my mom's birthday present, and she was pretty much the best present anyone could receive. She touched my whole family. She was my best friend; she literally grew up with me from childhood to adulthood. Not a day went by when she didn't cheer me up, make me smile, or make me feel like I was loved unconditionally. We have a new dog now who is an absolute sweetheart, but Perdi will never be able to be fully replaced. I'll miss you forever, Perdi <3

I also miss my hamsters that have died. That always makes me sound really dumb, but I can't help it. I love my hamsters dearly, and whenever they have died, I've been absolutely heartbroken. The hamster I'll talk about now is Creampuff. Creampuff was such a delightful little friend. Every day when I would walk by her cage, she would hear me, perk up, and come say hi. She had such a hilarious personality - always such a ham. She loved attention and was always up for a cuddle. She made me feel so happy. I miss her all the time. It's been about a year since she's been gone, but I still think about her often. Love you, Creampuff <3

I actually teared up reading this animals can get so close to you...it honestly hurts real bad...

oh yes also it's not weird having a bond with a hamster I have in fact (thankfully our hamster is still alive) and she is one white fluffy puffball (and she climbs the cage XD)

however I lost my previous hamster Hammy as strange as the name may sound just like any of my bests he was just joy to me even if he was a normal hamster...he sadly died of old age  :(  and I'll be honest I cried myself I get very close to my animals...it honestly hurts...so I don't blame you it's not weird at all...

I honestly feel for you and your dog it does remind me of the bond I had with Jake.....ever since Jake's death the other cat Rose (which is actually male but mistaken as a kitten as female) has taken a similar role and now won't leave my side...I'll be honest this makes me so happy...

Jake's death has also changed Rose before he preferred his space but now he is so social he won't leave my side...much like Jake the one cat Rose was really close to was Jake and now he's gone it feels he's following his tracks....

I honestly feel bad for your animals....

@@Everleaf, I appreciate your kind words so much. I am such a huge animal-lover - I love my pets just like I love my friends and family, no matter how big or small the pet is. I just feel this immense bond with them; it's so hard to explain to people who just don't get it. I hate when I'm talking about my hamsters and people are just like, "Psssssh, really? Hamsters? What are you, five years old?" I'll never understand why people think the love between a person and a dog or cat is any different than the love between a person and a hamster, turtle, gerbil, gecko, chinchilla, etc. All animals are amazing creatures and when one of my animal friends leaves my life permanently, it always sucks. I'm glad you understand.

No problem at all in fact I know the feeling animals ARE family to me and just because you have a strong bond with a smaller pet does not make a difference I see pets as a true family member and I always will, some people will never understand the bond people have with animals in fact some people sadly don't understand the bond with a human and a dog/cat I am close to all animals and I am happy to care for them just like I would with a part of the family they are part of the family and people need to respect that,

I sometimes hear people say dogs/cats or any animals are dumb creatures and all stuff like that I will be honest...this upsets me a dog or cat can be very intelligent any breed.....

I hate when people disrespect the animal kingdom such as poaching, animal abuse, all this kind of stuff I find hard to talk about...

but it is the same with smaller animals they need the respect a cat and dog gets they need love just like any other animal and I can't agree with you more....

I had a dog named Copper who was given away.  While it didn't change my life dramatically.... I don't know, I really miss him.

I also had a stray cat that my older brother brought in a couple years who died of AIDS recently. I still miss her, mang.

My cat Dale passed away in May. My family rescued him from an animal shelter. From the moment my parents brought him home I just felt this...special connection with him. After a long day of school I could always come home to him and just relax. He'd be waiting on my bed for me, and then curl up next to me. I miss him so much. I cried so hard when he passed away. I still remember that day. I woke up, was cooking some pancakes and just really generally happy. Then my baby brother comes in telling me that something was wrong with Dale, that he wasn't moving. I was sure he was just misunderstanding something, but deep inside I knew that my best friend had died. When I walked into my room he was just lying limp, laying on my floor, his head resting on a turtle blanket. I nudged him, and he wouldn't move. So I nudged him again and started freaking out. It was the worst moment of my life. Sure I've had animals die before, but I've never actually been next to any of them. Just to touch him and not respond. It was the most terrifying thing ever. That whole school week I said barely anything in class. It took everything in me not to burst out into tears. He was the greatest cat ever. He never left my side after my double jaw surgery. He always laid on my lap and slept next to me for 5 weeks straight on the couch because I couldn't sleep on anything but a recliner since my head had so much pressure on it. It killed me inside to know he was gone. I had a poster made of different pictures of me and him on walmart's website photo thing and it's hanging on my wall.

I have no idea if he's dead...or even what happened to him but I also know that this little tortoise changed me. He was a pain in the butt, bit me a few times cause I liked to handfeed him sometimes and he had crappy perception. But he was the cutest little thing ever. It hurt my heart when I had to give him away since I was going to move states. Raphael was the greatest tortoise ever.

When I was around 4.. There was this stray dog that would always came by my house.. his long fur looked orange, and as a fan of lion king.. that's what me and my cousin called him. Almost everyday lion king would come by my house, me and my cousin would play with him, we taught him how to fetch (with a plastic robot).. we would also give him food whenever lion king came by while we were eating.. Lion king really taught me that not all dogs are scary.. I was scared of dogs because whenever we visit my uncle his dog (great Dane) would always bark at me and a bulldog that would nibble on my leg..

but the we moved when i was 6 and I never saw Lion king again..  :(

I had the same feeling with Jake...Jake was honestly precious to me he was healthy happy and so but one day he started to get ill that time I found it too hard to even look...it just reminded me I was gonna lose him and it honestly hurt me....soon he got so ill when I found out he was dead....I was heartbroken I knew I could not do a thing about it so I actually cried my eyes out I felt I lost it all I just felt so lost....

and yet I still do today without him...I am honestly tearing up just typing this....

so I know how you feel with your cat...I know it honestly hits you...

and with your turtle...I hope he's still alive...

You got pretty close to the dog huh? well all you have to think at least he is well...

personally I love dogs, any breed and a great Dane is pretty much just a B.F.G  and was the bulldog doing it playfully or not? to be honest if playful I would laugh....

I honestly as I do for the others feel bad...You did seem quite bonded with (Lion king) and I'm not surprised he changed your life...

  • 3 weeks later...

Umm...not long ago my poor hamster Patch had passed away for some reason....I don't know why...she was healthy energetic and still young but sadly...she died...

I'm sorry I have no pictures but I thought I may say R.I.P Patch.

My lovely cat. My Great-Aunt lost it.

That was the first time I ever lost a pet that wasn't because of the cause of death.

Aww...one of my cats ran away thanks to the fact we had been repeatably moving...thanks to problems...she was a tiny cat very timid, very shy and extremely small for a adult cat...her name was Mittens...still can't get over the fact she ran away...she was precious...but she HAD found a new home and hopefully your cat did too...keep your head up about it.

I believe that too. He found a home, but a long time ago.  Sparkles is probably dead by now.

I'm happy he's no longer in danger, out there, lost.

True...but it's sad to think a animal would be dead by now...Mittens would likely still be alive as it was not that long ago...
