private Murder Horse: The non-musical

(DISCLAIMER... THINGY:

So me and my friend Daydreamdash made an RP, called 'Tainted Thought' a couple months ago and we are restarting it because... reasons. OOC: http://mlpforums.com/topic/107879-murder-horse-the-non-musical/?hl=murder+horse)

Monotone woke with a start as he lurched forward in his seat.

He glanced out the window to see the Ponyville station.

"here starts my decent into madness". monotone grumbles to himself as he pushes himself off the unpleasently hard seat.

His spine and joints popped with every step, obviously sleeping in a train isn't a such a good idea.

'I knew i should've got first class', He thought in hindsight.

He reluctantly stepped in the wooden platform. Littered with the orange, decaying leaves of the now dying trees.

Walking through town he could feel the bright and pleasent atmosphere of the town, despite Autumns oppresing chill. Mares tended to flowers, striking conversations with ponies they haven't met in a while, Stallions pulled carts full of the recent harvests, preparing for the long winter months ahead, Pegasi arranged the clouds with the utmost care and skill.

Everypony seemed happy and lively, and Monotone could hardly understand how they could be so contempt doing such menial tasks. But they weren't bothering him, so he tried to ignore their blindingly bright smiles.

He finally made it to his new home,to his relief, the happiness was starting to erode his mind.

It was on the edge of town, right next to the everfree forest. He found himself enjoying the country side more.

He jimmied the key in the lock to discover that the door was already open... how strange...

ditzy doo, there she was, ahead of him, in front of him, daydream watched the beautiful mare. her twists and turns and spins amalgamating into a dance of beauty and intricacy. he could sit and watch forever but he soon remembers, everything ends.
daydream awoke with a start and sits up to be bought face to face with a wall. how he had ended up in this position he did not know but that was unimportant. he had heard the door open. not good. but who would be here? this house had no one living in it. well, except for daydream.
he needed to move fast,, he knew that but his sleep addled brain wouldn't let him, he spread his wings and tried to hop out of the bed but his wings flapped at different times and one of his back legs got caught in the duvet covers.
he fell on the ground with a loud 'thud'. he needed to wake up, the crash was sure to draw the attention of whoever was in the house.

a grey unicorn enters the room and stares at the pegasus tied up in the duvet. "who in celestia's name are you and what are you doing in my house?" he says, pulling back the covers.
his house?! when did this happen!
daydream picks himself up and tries to compose himself as much as possible, not sorting out his untidy hair. "i'm... the exterminator." he says, hoping to luna he is as stupid as some of the other ponies in this town.
" 'the exterminator'? Please, mr. exterminator what pests seem to be residing in my abode?" Monotone would say with a quizical look
"And why would the exterminator be hiding beneath my bed covers?"
"...ants." says the pegasus in an unconvincing manner. "yeah." ok, waking up now. "yeah, all over the house. they're beneath the floorboards and in the walls and... stuff." no, no, keep it up. "but i'm almost done here." NO, you need to stay here. "b-but i may need to stay in the house for a couple of days to... you know... make sure they don't... come back.. 'n'.. stuff."
"ants? Really? Oh well could you please step outside for a moment mr. exterminator?" says the unicorn. feigning interest.
daydream knew where this was going and that there was nothing that could be done about it. oh well, at least he tried.
the unicorn slams the door to the house the moment daydream is outside and leaves him to find another place to sleep.
he thought of all the ponies he could go to. the 'friendship brigade' (as he called it) maybe? nah, they would be busy with hugging and talking about feelings and saving equestria and junk. lyra and bon bon maybe? lyra was a bit wierd, last time he stayed there he caught her in her basement that was really more of a shrine to some fairy tale creature.
vinyl and octavia? no, at night vinyl partied and in the day octavia practiced, no time to sleep.
he supposed there was no other choice then, he flew up above the cloud layer and lay down on one of the few clouds not full of rain. more comfortable than the ground he supposed, and at least he was out of the rain.

Monotone turned away from the door and thought to himself, 'I was expecting the residents to be a bit... intrusive, but home invasion? Dear Celestia, I haven't even been here for one hour... ugh'. He wasn't looking forward to what surprises were held for him one month down the line. The worst part was he couldn't leave.

The hour was growing late and Monotone was showing no signs of fatigue. Moving house was usually a draining experience for him, but considering he got a couple of hours of rest on the train, and his furniture was already unpacked when he got here, he had plenty of energy to spare. Seeming as it was near pitch black out there, most ponies would be asleep.

'I may as well explore the town a little bit', He'd only read the map of Ponyville, so it wouldn't hurt to try and make himself more familiar with the area, especially considering no pony could bother him.

He paced through the poorly lit street that ran through a majority of the town. He noted all the shops, houses and other landmarks. The town seemed so different at night, so quiet, so peaceful. He could get used to this.

A light flicked on in the top floor of a shop nearby. He glanced up to the yellow square to see a silhouette of what seemed like a female pony with a large curly mane, staring directly at him.

He stood there for what seemed like hours,  watching the odd figure that observed him.

The pony darted from the window, then footsteps could be heard rushing down the stairs.

The door to the shop burst open and a pink mare bounced toward him

"What are you doing up so late, silly?" Her voice was full of energy, despite the ungodly hour

"I could ask you the same question." Monotone responded flatly

"So you're visiting town for a vacation?"

"Uh, no... I live here"

"w-what?"

"I don't think i need to repeat myself" Dear celestia, how is social interaction so painful

"I knew itchy eyeball meant something! You moved in without me knowing about it, didn't you?" Her shout disturbed the once peaceful silence of the night, and a couple of the residents.

"What?"

"You moved in without me knowing!"

"W-what?"

"Don't think you've escaped a house warming party mister!"

"House warming par- what in Equestria are you talking about you living bag of sugar and endorphins."

"See you tomorrow!" she giggled to herself as she made her way back to the building

Monotone stood there for a few seconds wondering what just happened. 'Who was that? She sorta looked like Pinke- no, nononono. DAMMIT, she knows I'm here! crap, crap. She's going to throw a party for me. No, please Luna no.'

He thought the way he arranged the move would mean that she wouldn't know of his existence until it was too late. He didn't think this through very well. 'I know! Maybe if I just stay at home for the next week she can't throw a surprise party, yeah, that can work.

He galloped home, in case she beat him to it. It was highly unlikely she would set up a party in a few, mere minutes. But from what he read, anything was possible with her.

daydream was a genius and he didn't even know it.

the previous day he had wondered why the fridge and pantry of the house had been fully stocked. and he had eaten all of it. meaning that the new resident would have to leave to get food.

genius.

good thing too because he left his thing in there.

daydream sat outside the house, peeking behind a cloud. he was meant to be on weather duty but the sky was supposed to be clear today anyway. at about twelve o'clock the grey unicorn opened the door and stepped outside, he was almost at the fence when he turned around and went back in the house.

after a few minutes he went out again, opening the gate with his magic long before he got to it.

daydream gave him plenty of time to get out of earshot before leaving the cloud and plummeting to the earth. darn his wandering mind.

"are you ok daydream." says a high pitched voice from in front of him as he picks himself up. oh no, it's her, not now, not now pinkie.

"yes pinkie, i'm fine. hey what are you doing here?" he asked, already suspecting the answer.

"you know silly." she replies. "i'm welcoming our new friend."

daydream moves to the door and starts inspecting it, looking for a way in. "why are you looking there?" pinkie asks me. before moving to one of the windows.

"when the window is open" she finishes as she gracefully leaps through the open window.

daydream reluctantly follows suit; "you do know that this is breaking and entering." he says to the bright pink mare.

"well i think that makes it entering and breaking." she says, pointing a hoof at a broken vase on the floor of the dining room.

"PINKE!" says daydream. "just... do something about that, ok." she starts to pick up the pieces as daydream leaves to the bathroom. to his dismay he can't find his prize. i know he thought i'll leave a message.

a few minutes later he put the knife down and looked at the wall. scratched into it was:

'hey buddy,

i'm gonna need my things back

and i will get them

-the previous owner of this house.'

perfect.

he made his way back into the kitchen where pinkie was carefully placing broken shards of glass on top of each other in the shape of the vase, like a 3d jigsaw. how she did this with her hooves he didn't know. he put the knife back where he found it and turned to see pinkie wheeling in the magnificent 'party cannon' into the house. he promptly left.

"daydream, arent you gonna stay for the party?" pinkie pie asks.

"not this time pinkie, i would love to but... i have things to do, sorry." he turns and leaves, flying up into the cloud layer.

Monotone ran through the town, grabbing enough groceries to last him 5 life times. His saddle bags were bulging with fruits, vegetables, savouries and anything else that managed to find itself in his line of sight. It was probably the most profitable five minutes the shop keepers around Ponyville ever had.

He ran back to his house, his legs starting to give in to the constant build up of lactic acid and the weight of the items he purchased.

'Five minutes, no pony can set up a party in five minutes right. She's probably only just noticed I left. Oh why didn't I just decide to starve myself to death, would've been a lot easier.'

He finally collapsed at his front gate when he noticed something disturbingly and horrifyingly wrong. The door was slightly a-jar.

He froze in place, realising what he had just done and what is going to happen next.

He tried to deny the inevitable by just thinking that, 'I must have left the door open. yeah that's it, heh heh, that's all it is. Silly monotone, silly silly-'

His thoughts were interrupted when a large ball of confetti flew past his face.

"SURPRISE!"

a house.

a submarine.

a skull.

a bird flies past.

a tree.

a cloud...

wait.. they're all clouds.

daydream lay on his back on the fluffiest cloud he could find, he wondered whether the unicorn had gotten his message yet.

suddenly a memory made a crash landing in his mind. THE RAIN! it was meant to rain at 1:00 and judging by the sun it should almost be ready.

today he was the only weather pony on duty and he wasn't very good at staying concentrated.

he rushed around, collecting black clouds and pushing them together over ponyville, finally he kicked them, causing them to burst into life just in time.

and once again the day was saved by daydream, he lay back on his cloud, only to find he got wet, all the clouds were now spitting water at him.

looks like it was time to find something else to do, his shift was almost over anyway.

"and thanks again mrs. cake, really appreciate it." said daydream as she hands him the box of muffins.

"don't worry dearie, just doin' my job." she says back as daydream tucks the box under one of his wings.

he leaves and starts to trot over to his normal spot to eat lunch. he liked this spot, a bench just on the other side of the bridge next to the town hall, it had a good view of town, the forest and ditzy's house, not that that matters.

he ate his muffins in silence, listening to the lively and happy world of ponyville on one side of him and then shifting his hearing to the quiet, mysterious and dark chasm of the everfree forest. this was one of his favorite places, where he went when he was sad.

he finished off and started to fly back to the new guy's house. he would just look through the window, to see if he had got the message.

at the house he looks through the bedroom window, he sees the message he wrote but not much else, it is very dark. he squints to see what is inside better.

Ponies, all bright, happy and cheerful, annoying music, horrible food, balloons. This was definitely a house warming party. A party in his house, his space.

Monotone stood outside his door in the rain, completely and utterly speechless.

"Well come on in silly" The pink mare dragged Monotone into the house and closed the door behind him.

Pinkie stood over Monotone and looked him in the eyes "well, whaddya think?" She asked. All the ponies around looked expectantly, waiting to hear his response.

Monotone stayed motionless for a couple seconds, aside from the occasional eye twitch.

"Do you have any alcohol?"

"uh... no, heh, sorry. Apple cider won't be sold until next year."

"oh... okay"

After that Monotone slowly made his way upstairs in silence and slammed his bedroom door shut, shaking the framework of the house slightly.

The crowd downstairs stood in silence. No pony was sure on how to respond.

Monotone kept his back to the door and closed his eyes, trying to convince himself not to jump out of the window in self frustration.

He slowly opened his eyes to find a message scrawled on his wall.

"what?"

He clambered up to his hooves and read the message.

"First home invasion and now petty vandalism?... W-what things?! That mother fu-"

He was about to finish the sentence when he found the pegasus who caused all of this pressed against his window.

"gah!" Monotone leaped back in surprise. In a panic, he pulls the bedside cabinet's drawer open with his magic and floats out a small revolver.

NONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONO.

the only thing that goes through daydream's mind when he sees the very large gun.

he tries to launch himself into the air but kicks his back legs forward, flipping him forward and causing him to come crashing, head-first, through the window.

he brings a plant pot that was on the window sill with him as well.

in only a few seconds he is laying at the unicorn's feet covered in soil, glass and subsequently his own blood.

"..found some more ants..." he says, pain preventing him from getting up.

"stand up, you bumbling idiot... now!" says the unicorn, pointing the gun closer to daydream's head.
"b-but i'm hurt, man!" moans daydream.
the unicorn pulls daydream to his feet and presses his head against the carving on the wall, dropping the gun. "what is this?" he says.
"... i forgot to take my toothbrush with me.." says dadream reluctantly.
"you invade my home, vandalise my property and waste my time... all for a bloody toothbrush?" says the unicorn through gritted teeth. he clasps his magical grip back around the gun.
"..i like that toothbrush, man." replies a frightened daydream.
"where is it?" asks the unicorn.
"it was in the bathroom but i checked earlier and--"
"oh, you mean that toothbrush..." says the unicorn, not allowing daydream to finish. pulls his toothbrush from a small bin in the bathroom and throws it out the window "fetch."
daydream leaps out the window after it, knowing it would take him out of the house but not intending to go back in.
he picks up the toothbrush and promptly flies away, leaving the grey unicorn to the mercy of pinkie pie.

Two hours had passed, Monotone was still in his room and didn't want to have to stay there any longer. The cheesy music was tempting him to pull his inner ears inside out. And could pinkie pie really not afford more than seven tracks? Seriously...

But he heard his front door swing open and the hoof-steps of ponies leaving the vicinity.

Monotone gave it a couple minutes before he finally trotted downstairs

The audacity.

Downstairs was a complete mess, wrappers strewn about the floor, sugary liquid stagnant on the floor boards, the sagged rubber of popped balloons. And no pony was here to clean up, not even pinkie pie. Well, save for one.

She was a grey pegasus mare with a golden mane and tail that were long and slightly unkempt. She had her back to Monotone and seemed to be eyeing up an untouched muffin on a table in front of her.

"Just take it and leave."

"What?" She turned her head in Monotone's direction and... 'What in Equestria is up with her eyes?' Monotone was slightly taken aback. He had never seen anything like that in Canterlot. He didn't let it get to him though, probably wasn't her fault.

"oh, uh... j-just take it and go, feel free to throw the wrapper on the floor on the way out."

"N-no, I couldn't, I'd feel too bad... especially... well" She gestured to the ground

"Fine, have it your way." Monotone turned away with a sigh and picked up some of the rubbish with his magic.

The mare seemed to not be moving

"...You gonna go?" He asked before he realised she was picking up the spoils of the party. "Oh, please that won't be neccessary... uh-"

"Derpy"

"Right, but please, you don't have to do that"

"I can't leave without showing my neighbour the kind nature of us ponyville folk"

"By folk you mean you?"

Derpy blushed at the compliment, "Trust me, they really aren't that bad"

Monotone made a disagreeing grunt

"... okay maybe they're not great with responsibility"

"Oh really?" He said in a sarcastic tone

"...or first impressions... just give these ponies a chance, trust me"

"Well they're cutting it pretty thin"

Half an hour had passed and the house was back to normal.

Monotone picked up the muffin from earlier with his magic and place it atop Derpy's head

"Oh no please-" She protested until Monotone interrupted her

"Go on, I think you deserved it"

She giggled a little "Okay, I give in" She said whilst dropping the muffin in her hoof. "I'll leave you to it then, and sorry about this whole thing, none of the residents mean ill."

"I hope you're right"

She made her way to the door, "Goodnight"

"'Night"

Monotone stood in the front room staring at the door that was now closed, and had been for a while.

'...Did I just make a friend?' He thought in a sudden realisation.

WHAT!?!?

THIS UNICORN IS STEALING HIS GIRL, well, daydream hadn't actually asked her out or anything yet more just... admired from a distance...
BUT STILL, THIS WAS UNACCEPTABLE.

he decided the only logical thing to do would be to follow her home. and so he did.

she almost got home without incident when daydream tried to land in a tree, but caught his back leg on one of the branches (is that leg bad luck or something) and went plumeting to earth.

"daydream! are you ok?" said a sweet voice from a few feet behind him.

cover blown, abort mission, ABORT!

daydream looks up to see her concerned wall eyes looking down at him. well, one of them was.

"uh, um, ah..." daydream stuttered. normally he was so articulate. knew exactly what to say to get what he wanted but this mare just made his mind turn into a bowl of jelly through which no thoughts could permiate.

"you must have hit your head hard. here, i live just there, i'll patch you up." she said, grabbing one of his hooves and dragging him to her house. shiholdinmhoof. maybe he did say the right thing.

"ouch!" said daydream as she cleaned out the cut on his foreleg. "oh, hush you. dinky complains less." it didn't hurt as much as he was making out. why was he making out it hurt that much. what did ditzy do to him? (heh, ditzy do.) he should tell her that one.

"ditzy doo. hahahahaha." he said, but he quickly stopped when he saw the confused look on her face.

"how hard did you hit again?" she asked.

"ah, i don't know. i'll just get some rest." he said, heading for he door. "thanks again derpy, see you tomorrow." NONONO. SHE WONT SEE YOU TOMORROW. he opened his mouth to say something else. no dont bother, damage done.

he left quickly.

you idiot, now she thinks you're some wierdo.

worst dayd ever.

he checked he still had his toothbrush and flew up onto his usual sleeping cloud, closing his eyes to rest.

"is this where you're sleeping?" a voice said beyond his eyelids.

what?

he opened his eyes and saw ditzy doo hovering next to his cloud.

scanning for likelyhood of being in a dream.

i dont thing we're asleep, reply.

"uh... yeah." he replied slowly.

"... come with me." she said.

wierdly, the first thing daydream had thought was 'why do they have a guest room.'

either way he was happy. and his head was clear now she had left.

tomorrow he figured he would try to patch things up with that unicorn.

shouldnt be too hard, right?

Monotone awoke to a banging sound.

After a short while of recovering from his previously comatose state he realised some pony was knocking at the door. He looked at the clock to find out it was 8:00.

'Oh for the love of... who would knock at this hour?'

He clambered downstairs and swung the door open. It was pinkie, and she had a friend. An orange mare with a full rimmed hat. Applejack

"SOOOOO, what d'you think?" said the obnoxious pink mare

"What? About the party?"

"Yeah!" she shouted, Monotone's ears rang from the sound of her grating voice

"Well-"

Apple jack interrupted him before he could start his rant, "So yer Monotone right?"

"Y-yeah, look-"

She intercepted him again to aggressively shake his hoof "Why I'm Applejack, nice to meet'cha. You're a but shorter than I expected... but that don't matter!"

"Can I-"

"I even gotcha a gift basket! You know, fer housewarmin'!"

'Oh great a gift basket? How am I supposed to be mad at her... her pink friend on the other hand-'

"Pinkie pie even chipped in!"

'OH FOR THE LOVE OF... ugh, okay just-'

"Hey! How about-" Pinkie pie looked like she was about to suggest something.

'no'

"we-"

'please no'

"Have another party!"

"NO!", Monotone shouted. The pink mare reeled back at his reaction.

"B-but why?"

"You broke into my house without permission, invited a bunch of strangers and made a mess of my house. And you didn't even clean up!"

"Oh- OH NO! shoot! I'm so sorry! It's just the twins down the road-"

"I don't care- look just, go... please. I just need time on my own."

Pinkie pie's hair instantly deflated as soon as Monotone had finished. Her bottom lip quivered and tears began to fall from her eyes. She grabbed Applejack and sobbed into her chest

"What have you don-"

Monotone slammed the door in Applejack's face before she could finish guilting him.

Monotone didn't feel proud, but he had to keep the pink menace away one way or another.

pancakes, pancakes and muffins. that was the smell daydream awoke to.

"how did you sleep." a voice said as he entered the kitchen.

"uh..." daydream realised he was staring again, "fine, fine."

"oh good. i made breakfast." said derpy, holding up a plate of fresh steamy pancakes.

daydream suddenly forgot how to say no. here was the mare of his dreams in an apron, a bit of pancake batter on her nose holding up one of his favorite foods.

after a filling breakfast he goes to leave

"will you be staying with us again?" asked the sweet voice from behind him

"uh... no. i wouldnt want to... that is... uh..." for lunas sake why could he not speak.

she giggled at his lack of coherency, honestly making him even less so, and said; "okay, i guess i'll see you when i see you then. hopefully soon..."

you should say something. say something. any time now. "yes..." good job idiot.

they both stood staring at each other for a second when

*pomf*

oh celestia please no.

daydream's wings had extended to their full length and would not move.

derpy looked at them for a second before looking back to daydream.

"i'm just gonna... go" said daydream before swiftly leaving and pondering how viable an option jumping down a hole is right now because that was the most embarrasing thing ever.

after daydream had punched several walls to death he remebered that he meant to go and talk to that new guy today. to be honest he would like to do anything right now,, no matter what just SOMETHING.

he aproaches the gated fence around the house and hesitates.

well what are you gonna loose, your toothbrush again?

he opens the gate and heads for the door.

'Oh no, not that bloody pegasus again'. Monotone thought as he saw him approach his gate.

"What?" Monotone said whilst opening the front door. The pegasus was caught in a position between raising his forehoof and knocking on the door.

"I just wanted to come over and apologise..." There was an uncomfortably long pause "...for your plant pot"

Monotone rolled his eyes and slammed the door shut with his hoof.

He walked down the main room before he was stopped by the pegasus appearing at the window to his right.

"okay, and the other stuff too-" He was interrupted by a curtain shrouding the window.

He appeared at another window just a small distance from the first one. "It's just that you're new here and I'm used to-", This continued up the stairs "I'm used to ponies who normally live here. the-", "The ones who are a bit... uh... more forgiving."

Monotone finally made it to his room, the only room in the house that withheld any day light at that moment.

"I just felt it would be extremely rude to not apologise for my atrocious behaviour."

There was a pause, Monotone stood in the middle of the room, holding his brow in his hoof and closing his eyes.

"Ugh, fine. Apology accepted, now go away"

And with that, the final set of curtains were drawn.

Mission accomplished. "That's all I needed to hear", Daydream muttered to himself triumphantly as he hovered in front of the first story windows.

"That damn pegasus is going to be the death of me" Monotone whispered in a hushed voice.

'I could just kill him', The thought that flashed in his mind did appeal to him, but it wouldn't do him any good. Most of the other residents will probably fill his place. He was just going to have to tolerate this. He'll probably get desensitized to all of this after a couple of weeks anyway.

"BLAGHRGAH!"

Monotone awoke with a start, "what in the name of-"

"EHG, NO!"

Monotone bolted up right in his bed, in the darkness of his room, trying to piece together what was happening with his sleep filtered mind.

Several more shouts later he could definitely decipher that this strange noise was emanating from above.

He stepped out of bed and flipped the light on. What creature of Tarturus would be making such a racket.

He flared up grey sparks from his horn and teleported on the roof of his house, expecting to see some horribly disfigured bird... looks like he wasn't far off.

The pegasus from before had managed to balance him self on Monotone's roof and slept there/

"GAHARAH!" The pegasus shouted whilst performing a fit.

Monotone thought that pegasi were noble and proud creatures, but that was reduced to a mass of splayed limbs sleeping on his damn roof.

Monotone was far from annoyed, he was seething. He didn't care about the well being of that damn thing anymore. Yes, he could only classify Daydream as a 'thing' at this point. If he killed Daydream, it would look like an accident anyway.

Monotone made his way over to the pegasus and hefted the worthless piece of flesh over the side of the roof and let it tumble to the ground below.

this was the most prompt awakening daydream had had in years.

he got up off of the ground and flew into the air. the unicorn had already gone back inside the house.

"alright, i get it." shouted daydream to no one in particular before flying away.

he didn't fly far though as this new unicorn lived so close to ditzy doo. he flew up onto his cloud and was greeted by an unexpected, yet welcome sight.

on the cloud was a plate of pancakes, cold, a sweater, wet from the cloud, and a poorly written note.

'daydream;

i thought you might come back here

so i left some things to make you comfortable.

                                              -ditzy'

the thing that came into daydream's head before his heart overcame it was 'how come a mail mare has such bad handwriting'

the next day daydream found himself following monotone, he didn't know why, it felt right. monotone had left his house and was now wondering ponyville. it was early enough so that no ponies were out but the sun was already up. daydream followed him through his escapades. he went everywhere with a meaningful prescence. he strode forewards with confidence that made daydream imagine ponies being pushed away from him without phasing him as he walks. daydream was trying to figure out where he was going. he kept going to one place, stopping, turning and walking to another. this made it difficult for daydream to hide and a couple of times daydream was sure he would be spotted. but he wasnt, and he needed to find out where this unicorn was going.

It was early morning and Monotone decided it was time to finally embark to the everfree forest, he needed to make his way around there and seeming as no pony has decided to make a map or even list any of the creatures that reside there, he was going to have to make his own material.

He made as far as the front gate before he realised there was a critical problem. The pegasus was just 50 metres away, eyeing Monotone from behind the corner of a building. Even though Monotone made a passing glance, he could tell he was being watched by him.

Now Monotone couldn't enter the forest, he can't elicit any strange behaviour in front of any pony or his cover is blown. He has already caught the resident's attention with his uncanny, antisocial nature. And he has already had an outburst by throwing the pegasus off of his roof.

He decided he just needed to humour the pegasus, and act completely unaware. Any more confrontation and it would only give daydream more of a reason to breathe down Monotone's neck.

He walked around ponyville for an hour and a half and he was still being stalked. Daydream still seemed as interested as he was at the beginning, so it looked like boring Daydream was definitely not an option.

Monotone couldn't take any more, so he just made his way home.

He needed to either try at night or tomorrow. He can't stall for much longer. Or Ponyville will suffer the consequences.

situation deemed safe, fall back to base. daydream thought as he made his way to work after the unicorn was home without incident.

paperwork day, woot. he thinks as he enters the office that he rotationally shared with four other people throught the week.

daydream devoted one day a week to writing up all the necessary paperwork to do with his job. times, cloud formations and the like. it was dull but didn't take long so he got to leave early.

he sat down on the chair behind the desk and got the papers out of the second drawer down in the desk; his intray. he looked them over and went to pick up a pen in his mouth.

suddenly, the sound of feedback blared through the room. he jumped and almost swallowed his pen. whilst he was choking it back up the voice of the boss of this small station (about four rooms and a bathroom,) blared over the intercom. "daydream, come to my office, please." said the voice of rainbow dash.

daydream hoped this wouldn't take long. he needed to check on that new unicorn.

he stepped into the office of rainbow dash, a room taller than it is wide and that must have taken up a half of the small weather controll building. he stepped in and she looks up at him from her work, she looks back at it and finishes it off.

"you wanted to see me?" asks daydream, approaching the desk and sitting down.

she finishes off what she was doing and lifts herself off of her seat, landing sitting on the desk with her legs hanging over the same side he was sat on.

daydream was suspicious of where this was going to go.

"daydream. we've known each other for a while now, yes." she said, feigning confidence.

"... i suppose." he replies.
"well, i have admired you for a while now and... uh..." she looses her confidence.

"oh, miss dash, you were doing so well, you were confident and forthcoming, you had smoothly gotten yourself into a position where you are taller than me. you have thought this through, don't falter now." says daydream in a tone of voice he hadn't heard come out of his moth in a lifetime.

rainbow dash stutters and looks around nervously. poor thing, lets make her more comfortable. he thought.

he stands quickly and moves towards her, pushing his face into hers. at first she is surprised and doesen't react but soon returns the kiss. daydream pushes her back onto the table and disconnects their faces. he flashes her a grin and she giggles.

later on daydream finds himself lying with a tired rainbow dash in her house. this is when he remembers he had something to do. he smashes his hoof into his face from his own idiocy, this causes rainbow to jump and his face to hurt.

"look, i'm so sorry but i have a... thing i have to do. i'll be back." he shouts as he flies out the window and down to monotone's house before dash has time to respond.

Monotone checked the table in the middle of his study room.

A hunting rifle, backup revolver, a 'quick-fix' potion, flares and a butt load of ammunition. Whatever was out there, in the forest, Monotone could probably reduce it to shredded little pieces.

From a small background check, Monotone found that the Pegasus, Daydream, was doing necessary paper work for his weather job today. So he could avoid him for now... at least he hoped.

He made a quick glance to a horrifically un-detailed map of the Everfree, he placed a couple pins with red string tied between them in a loop. Not to be creepy, just to map out a small walking route.

Monotone grabbed the weapons and was about to holster them until he saw

"OH FOR THE LOVE OF LUNA'S RIGHT TEAT!" Monotone shouted at Daydream from behind the study window, dropping everything that was previously shrouded in his magic.

Daydream pushes himself away from the window and looks for a means of escape. In his panicked state, all he could think to do was hide behind a small plant pot in monotone's front garden. Monotone busted through the front door and immediately spotted Daydream.

Monotone tipped over the pot with his magic and pointed the revolver in the pegasus' direction, but hid it behind his body so that no ponies can spot the weapon.

"Get in" Monotone commanded

Daydream stayed in place for a few moments, being able to only focus on the firearm.

"I said, get in" Monotone said in a hushed, yet enraged voice.

Daydream complied and made his way through the door. He wasn't afraid as such, but did fret for the outcome of the situation.

They were in the front room.

"Sit", Monotone gestured to the sofa with the weapon.

Daydream did so. He looks over the room, searching for a potential means of escape. He stays silent, for his own good.

"You have no idea of the hole you just dug yourself in. Daydream"

Daydream lock Monotone's eyes with his own. Every trace of the silly, clumsy pegasus had been obliterated. Replaced by a calculative, yet malicious look.

"Monotone, was it?

What are you going to do? Kill me? The ponies of this town know me, would look for me, mourn for me. I made sure of it. What would they think of you?" Daydream burns his bright gaze into Monotone. "Even of you hid me, you're the new guy who lashed out at the kindest mare in town and had a violent outburst at me. What do you think happens to you then?" Daydream pauses for a few seconds, allowing what he just said to sink in. "So now you're going to tell me who you are. And I will leave. I will never speak of this and life will continue."

Monotone was taken aback by the response. The fact that what he considered to be such a low form of life, came up with such a divine melody of reason and calculation was just... unnatural. Despite that, Monotone found Daydream's face even much more smackable.

"Well I am certainly impressed. But you only get a B-, for just one little detail. I'm not even going to think of killing you", with that, Monotone threw the weapon across the room. Monotone stepped closer to the lanky pony. Monotone sort of wished that he wasn't so short so that he could stand over Daydream, instead of having the pegasus' neck at eye level, so that he may seem slightly more intimidating. But he didn't linger on the thought. "You see, I may be violent... and maybe slightly impulsive. But I'm not a moron. I know how to get around most situations, even if it costs me something. And for this particular one I must sacrifice my sanity..." Monotone breathed out a prolonged sigh. He couldn't believe he had to say this. "Be my friend"

Daydream pauses for a couple seconds, then he tilts his head to the side and smiles an inquisitive yet unnerving smile. He stays in that position for an uncomfortable amount of time then finally responds. "Define friend"

Monotone replies, and reluctantly so. "We just sort of... loiter around, I guess. Then do whatever it is friends do. Then you will give me a background on the ponies here, then teach me the ways ponies around here socialise so that I may do the same and blend in. I would do this by my own initiative... but as you can see, this sort of thing doesn't come naturally to me..." Monotone paused, thinking about what he said, then continued. "I would choose someone else, I really would. But I just can't get rid of you, no matter what. So I may as well use your... persistence? Yeah that's the word, to my own advantage."

Daydream's smile becomes less threatening and he relaxes his muscles. The pegasus, that Monotone was all to familiar with, came back into the room. He looks to the ceiling as he slumps back into the seat.

"Man, I've never said no to new friends. Don't think you can", Daydream tilts his head forward, to look at Monotone with those disturbingly innocent eyes. "I'll do it" He says with a smile, the genuine one, not the evil one. "And I can find out more about you, Monotone"

'Trust me, you don't', Monotone thought, but he didn't want to say. He felt it would only raise questions.

Daydream closes his eyes and stretches his forelegs, "Mind if I stay for lunch... or dinner... what time is it?"

"As much as I would love to have you over", Monotone said in a painfully sarcastic tone. "I have other plans... as you could probably guess. We can meet sometime in the week though. I'm sure you can find me when you want to, you've been doing that pretty well for the past few days."

Daydream was about to leave, but was stopped by Monotone.

"Oh, and another thing. If you even think about telling anyone about the past few minutes, I will not hesitate to inform Derpy of the little incident between you and your boss."

He wondered how Monotone knew about that, but he thought that all that matters is the fact Monotone actually knows. So he passively nods his head and leaves.

Monotone sats where Daydream previously was and rested his head in his hooves. Gently rubbing his eyes. Thinking about what he was going to do next.

alright so i have to forget that, or at least make it hard to access. or just 'misplace' it, should be simple enough. daydream flew over to his favorite bench. here, on the edge of town he sat in the silence, staring into the late evening sky, the sun was setting and the fiery halo it seemed to wrap around the horizon was something he always liked. he was a stallion of simple taste. he lay back and looked up into the ever darkening sky. he closed his eyes.

now he was in a large, oval shaped building with multiple stories and no roof, which was strange because there was a carpet, what if it rained? it wouldn't rain unless he wanted it too or unless he thought too hard about what would happen if it rained.
so it's raining now. "good job idiot." he said to himself, causing him to look around and see himself. there are two of him here, makes for better conversation. they walked out of the rain and over to a broom closet which's door is only there if he wants it now he thinks about it. he walks through the middle of the hall and it isn't there. he would have to make it a more permanent installation. on the bottom floor probably, there's space there and the upper floors tended to go a bit funny when he wasn't concentrating. he opens the door to the cupboard and steps inside. why is there a mop it is just constantly clean here anyway. he wouldn't have it otherwise. he looks back outside the door and sees himself mopping up the rainwater now that it's sunny again. the daydream with the mop waves. daydream doesn't wave back, he turns back to the room and puts the memory on one of the shelves. i would describe what a memory looks like but honestly neither daydream or i know, but for some reason it whispers, whatever.
he closes the door behind him and steps away from it.
he opens his eyes.
right. now he needed some good old memory loss, temporary amnesia. and what better than transient-global amnesia. the kind one gets with heavy amounts of the hormones associated with sexual arousal. and oh what luck he has an invitation to his boss' bedroom. you see, think of it like a computer program. when you leave the program it automatically asks you to save, if you don't the files will go back to how they were last time you saved. so daydream had to save and quit. turn off his brain for a bit, and through extensive testing has concluded that sexual interactions are the best way to stop thinking.

daydream spends the night with rainbow dash, dinky has a nightmare and has to sleep with her mother, pinkie prepares one hundred and thirty two custom cakes in one night and lyra has a leg injury from falling down the stairs.

Monotone woke up to find a note stuck to the other side of his bedroom window.

Monotone,

Meet at the fountain in the middle of town

11:00

The handwriting was appalling. It took monotone a couple minutes to decipher his own name.

11:00 rolls around and Monotone makes it to the fountain, no earlier, no later. It was a fairly clear day, if not a tad chilly. Daydream comes from the distance, descends and lands besides Monotone.

In a heavily sarcastic tone, Monotone says to daydream, "So, my love. Where are we going to have our first date?"

Daydream smiles back, "Well; sugar, honey, darling, sweetums. I was thinking of a fine local establishment that I am well aquainted with."

"And that would be?"

"Why not wait and see", Daydream says, as he starts to make his way over to the unknown destination

"Oh, my darling, how mysterious", Monotone still carrying the sarcasm

Daydream smiles back in response.

After a short time of strolling in a somewhat awkward silence they finally arrive. Sugar cube corner

"sugar cube corner, eh?" Monotone says, slightly unimpressed. He was at least expecting a moderately priced restaurant for his first date, instead of a bakery/diner. but hey, beggars and choosers.

"I'm sure you'll love the staff" Daydream said, with a slightly malicious under tone.
"I couldn't love them as much as you darling", Monotone just disregarded it. Everything Daydream said had a malicious undertone.

Daydream sits them down, outside in the cool air.

'Ugh, didn't even pull a chair out for me' Monotone thought to himself.

When Monotone picked up the menu when he started to hear a slightly familiar bouncing noise coming from the building.

Monotone glances to see- 'oh no, please no, NO!'

Pinkie stopped in her tracks when she made eye contact with Monotone. And Daydream is with him? What?

Monotone flashes a disdainful look at Daydream .

Daydream leans and rests his hooves on the table, holding his chin between them.

"So, Daydream, what would you like?" she asks, whilst trying to ignore Monotone's existence.

After taking Daydream's needlessly complex order, she goes inside, slamming the building door. A dispute could be heard between Pinkie and an older mare.

She comes back out and begrudgingly says, "I don't want to serve meanies, but mrs. Cake says I'm required to as a part of my job."

"I'll have an oatmeal muffin... please." Monotone responds, not breaking eye contact with daydream.

Daydream smiles that suspicious smile, he turns to look at pinkie and repeats, "oatmeal"

"OAT MEAL, ARE YOU-" She catches herself and take a deep breath. "Yes..." she walks away and whilst doing so whispers under her breath, "...meanie"

The order come to the table, Pinkie elegantly places Daydream's food on the table and smashes Monotone's in front of him afterwards.

Daydream is about to start, until the rainbow icing glazed muffin with the sprinkles and blue icing removed he was aiming for zips past his mouth and falls to the ground.

"Whoops, sorry, magical influx". Monotone says, slumped back in his chair, fore legs folded and eyes avoiding daydream.

"Aaaaww, I thought we were 'friends' bud"

"If you feel the need to act like a little filly I don't see why I can't as well."

"I must say, I honestly don't know what you're talking about."

"Oh, you know what. I don't think Derpy has seen you in a while. She must be wondering about what you've been up to this whole time..."

Daydream takes a bite of his unglazed, glazed donut "...not cool...", Then takes another bite.

Monotone savours his small victory, before deciding on his next move. He stands up and floats the muffin beside him. "Well that was fun, we should do this again sometime." Then a grey flash fills Daydream's vision and Monotone is gone.

"He's cute I might keep him", Daydream says to himself as he rests his hind hooves on the table.

"I hope he gets eaten by a rabid griffin", Monotone places the muffin on the middle of the coffee table and flops onto his sofa.

daydream knew that this was going to be fun. it had been a while since he had been able to really toy with somepony. he finished his sandwich and hears pinkie trotting over almost the moment he swallows the last bite. "your 'friend' gone, daydream?" she asks suspicously. what was she suspicious of, that he was hiding him in his coat. speaking of which he wasn't wearig his coat, did he bring it with him? it was going to rain in a couple of minutes so "he would need it." "need what?" asks pinkie. he didn't realise he had said that last bit out loud. "i meant to say that i made him leave." this made pinkie a bit happier, good. "so what's the damage, lovely." asks daydream, looking into the pink mare's eyes with his kindest look. "don't worry daydream, i'll just put it on your tab." said pinkie kindly. "oh, pinkie you are the kindest." said daydream, getting up and kissing the mare on her cheek before walking away from sugarcube corner. he hoped he would never have to pay that tab. it must have been five years worth of snacks and meals by now. he tried not to dwell on that.

he flies up to his cloud, just above ditzy doo's house. "i'll just be over there." he said to an imaginary ditzy. he moved the cloud to the space in between monotone's house and derpy's house. he checked it was close enough to both and then flies off to a nearby bench. just next to the bridge. his favorite.

he sat and opened his viosion. not focusing on any one thing but taking in as much as he can. and then he closes his eyes.

Monotone expected Daydream to be many thing, but he certainly didn't expect a self absorbed psychopath, and Monotone was his plaything.

He tried to forget it as soon as it happened. It looked like Daydream had many personalties, he just had to wait until he chooses another one.

Monotone walked along the main path that makes it's way throughout Ponyville's circumference. It was mid-day and those obnoxious sacks of flesh called ponies were out an about, but he didn't care if he had to deal with them, he just wanted to get his mind off of earlier.

"of for the love of-" Monotone mumbled to himself as he saw Daydream on the bench just around the corner, he seemed to be off in his own little world. He was going to turn around until two light grey hooves grabbed him and spun him around.

Daydream was making panicked and unintelligible noises whilst pointing off in one direction.

"Daydream, what in equestria are you going on about?!", Monotone asked, confused as to what made his 'friend' so upset

Daydream stopped making noise, instead replacing it with a concerned humming. He thrusts his hoof in the direction he was pointing at with even more force.

"Daydream what is so hard about talk-- oh... ah" Monotone turned his head to see the dark silhouette of a manticore, floating worryingly close to Ponyville

Daydream nods feverishly "mm-hmm. Go get it Mono"

Monotone stops and thinks for a second, "okay, I just need to get some stuff from my house and- wait, why do you expect me to anything? Oh for the love of-- okay... I guess you're good at keeping secrets?"

"...yeah"

"Well you're going Manticore hunting, whether you like it or not"

"Oka- WAIT WHAT?!"

"No time to argue, my house, now!"

Daydream turns on the spot and squaks in disagreement, but Monotone has already ran off.

"Fine" Daydream soon follows after.

Monotone vaults over his fence and throws open the door

"You know how to fire a gun?"

"Yes" Daydream responds almost immediately, with an anxious yet giddy tone

They arrive to Monotone's spare room. The unicorn tosses aside a number of padlocks from a wardrobe door and swings the double doors open. In the wardrobe is a worrying assortment of weapons, enough to rival military warehouses.

"here", Monotone throws a revolver in Daydream's direction, along with a pouch filled with spare bullets. "What's your opinion on bladed weapons?" Monotone says with his back turned

"My favourite" Daydream responds in wide eyed glee

"Swords, axes or spears?"

"scalpels... I mean swords"

Monotone pauses and twists his head around to shoot a worried look. his mouth slightly ajar and brow furrowed in concern. Despite that Monotone hands him a short sword.

The unicorn slides some shells into a shotgun and straps a spear to his back.

"let's do this"

Daydream makes an accepting "ehh"

The two of them crouch in the brush, seeing the Manticore slouched over a disembowelled coz. If it got a hold of livestock, it obviously came a bit too close to civilisation. It needed to be put down, before it gets too confident and puts ponies on the menu.

"okay, we need to surprise him, catch him off guard" Monotone whispers to the pegasus

"I can do that" Daydream says, tightening his body to avoid falling over.

Monotone floated the spear off of his back and aimed it in the direction of the Manticore, "This isn't going to kill him, so we need to act fast"

"I'll get ya something"

"Oka-- wait, what's that supposed to mean?"

"You'll see"

"A-alright?" Monotone just tries to dismiss and clears his head. He narrows his eyes and aims the spear. It curves into a perfect arc and plunges into the Manticore's back. It wails in pain and rage. Monotone jumps out of the bush and starts dischargeing the shotgun pellets into the beast's flesh.Catching it's attention.

Daydream flies fast and low to the ground, swooping up and hanging around it's back. The monster doesn't notice Daydream due to the loud stick floating beside the unicorn. This doesn't last long as the sword in daydream's mouth make quick work of it's left wing.

Monotone keeps shooting at the beast. Making chunks of flesh fly off with each pump of the handle and pull of the trigger. Until the entire contents of the shot gun are gone. "I'm out" Monotone shouts to daydream. Now the attention is on the pegasus.

The first wing falls to the ground with a heavy thud, closing and opening on its own accord as it's nerves overload.

It's scorpion tail flails around, desperately trying to catch the pegasus on it's back, currently cutting off it's ears.

The creature manages to stab itself multiple times, it falls to the ground from a concoction of exhaustion, blood loss, and it's own poison.

It stops flailing it's limbs and lays still on the ground, as it focuses all of it's energy into gasping for air. Daydream lops off the other wing. He grabs all of the things he managed to remove and carries them on his back. "uh... want one?" Daydream asks, offering one of the bloodied body parts. "Hehe. Maybe a scalpel wouldn't have been so handy"

Monotone gives him a concerned look. Monotone expected Daydream to have a little but of skill in this field. What with the worrying amount of weapon training in cloudsdale schools. Also the fact that Daydream is by no means the most innocent of ponies. But this the sort of surgical precision that rivals even the most experienced of surgeons. He needs to keep an eye out on Daydream from now on, he seems dangerous enough to cause a lot of harm.

"That was... worryingly impressive" Monotone says as he retrieves his spear and shoves a red cylinder into the fire arm. He floats the gun to the head of the hardly living Manticore and turns the air into a pink mist.

daydream left a manticore ear on monotone's porch. why he didn't want something from such a magnificent beast was wierd. daydream also considered leaving something for derpy but though it would be wierd. instead he ended up regretfully disgarding the pieces of bloodied manticore and proceeds to his bench.

he sits down and takes in the view. then he closes his eyes.
he walks down the main hall and turns past the doors to the stairs. second floor, first door on the left.

he opened the small wooden door to reveal an out of place, pristine white coridor, extremely high tech stuff. he turns to the left and looks out of the window to the grounds of the house. five small houses and a fountain are seen, the top of the maze is shrouded in dark clouds.

he turns from the window and looks down the seemingly endless hallway. he strides down, past doors labeled with dates spanning from up to seventeen years ago. finally he arrives at today's date and enters the door. he strolls in to be greeted by another corridor with times in place of dates. he again reaches his destination and steps inside.
he watches as his past self and monotone step into monotone's room, monotone puts in the padlock combinations and he opens the cabinet. then everything stops, allowing daydream to move past himself, past the padlocks and past monotone untill he was right in front of the cabinet. the assortment of weapons was impressive as well as suspicious. but he would have to confront monotone himself for awnsers about why he was here, so instead he rewound the clock.

they enter the room again, monotone puts in the padlock combinations. stop. rewind. daydream tries to take a closer look at monotone when he inputs the combinations but he stood in the way when he did it, obscuring daydream's view. bugger.

well  it seems that nothing useful has been gained from this then. except proof that monotone is not a normal pony. daydream supposed he could follow that up.

he opens his eyes and locks his vision onto monotone's house.
