Are MLP comics cannon? / Catch me up on MLP comics?

Because if they are, Celestia kind of has a cannon ship!

That they killed off. :C

Sort of.

That was so sad! Dx

I 'watched' the alternate universe comic on youtube. I Want to read more comics, but there is way too many, and too pricey to buy all of them.

I need to be caught up on the comics- I can't help but feel like I'm missing out on stuff.

We've never gotten a definitive "yes this is canon" confirmation from anyone, but the people who make the comics seem to actually be working with the show staff and not just having someone from Hasbro "rubber stamp" their scripts.

There are other more dubious sources where you can find them for free online, but you'll have to find those on your own.

You can always do the old trick of hanging out in Barnes & Noble and read all the trade paperbacks without actually buying them.

What Dattebayo said. It's actually been known for a while that Hasbro considers them canon. :3

I refuse to let go until you're impressed.

At BABSCon's comic panel they did actually... they were asked whether the comics were canon, and they explained that for all intents are purposes they are secondary canon as are the rest of the official materials out there besides the show.  Basically what that means is that they try and make them canon, they are supposed to work with the show, and they should be considered canon, but if some detail conflicts with something on the show, then the show's canon should be prioritized.

For future reference and arguement's sake, I'm just gonna leave this here:

I must have posted that pic like 5869 times laready... x)

Also, a quote from the man himself:

"The comic is set within show continuity, and is done in cooperation with the show staff. This is as close to the show as it gets without having it animated.

I personally say yes, but it is really up to the individual to decide."

Oh that's cool. So it's like Star Wars Expanded Universe stuff now. (Well, EU before Disney put the kibosh on it anyhow.)

I was about to mention that. As long as the comics don't conflict with the show itself; it %100 happened.

Also, AUSombraxCelestia FTW!

Oh, and I can't believe I let this slip by...

"Cannon" is "a large, heavy piece of artillery, typically mounted on wheels, formerly used in warfare."

While "canon" is "a collection or list of sacred books accepted as genuine".

------------

Oh and while we're on the subject, instead of saying "not-canon" it would please me if people started referring to it as "Apocrypha" or "Apocryphal" as that is the actual word for things that are not accepted as canon.

Ooh, ooh and I just realized something: Pinkie Pie's party-cannon is canon. Crazyness.

Like everyone is gonna know AND remember big fancy words like that instead of simply saying "not canon" or "noncanonical" or just..."noncanon".
