Gary S. 102 September 9, 2014 Share September 9, 2014 I don't consider Legolas as a god, who is immortal, but can get killed. Celestia and Luna just went to Galadriel level imo. Discord might be a spirit, as he called himself in one episode, but i believe he's not a god. I don't know anymore, what is from the show or fictions, but ponies mentioned Celestia with "Dear Celestia". Like Dear god. Either Celestia and Luna ascended to a godlike status like Kim Yong Il, or they are indeed goddesses.
Commissar Alexer 763 September 9, 2014 Share September 9, 2014 Headcanons, Headcanons everywhere. It was stated by the show and by Lauren Faust herself that these are not Gods. It's Spirit of Chaos and not God of Chaos, how hard can that be? 3 "There is no such thing as innocence, only degrees of guilt." "Prayer cleanses the soul, Pain cleanses the body." Fractured 2,684 September 10, 2014 Share September 10, 2014 Pretty much ^this; at best, they're demigods, like I said. I'm going to break this into what I believe to be facts. If at any point someone disagrees with one, feel free to chime in. Fact 1: One does not have to be omnipotent, omniscient or all-powerful to be a god. Outside of the Judeo-Christian religion, this is a common theme in mythological texts. Fact 2: "God" is a term based on power and wisdom beyond comprehension by those considered "normal". The phrase "a god amongst men" is a testament to this, since it assumes superior qualities can also make a god. Zeus and Odin would thusly fit into fact 1 and 2, as they are not all knowing and all powerful, just "superior" to those around them. Fact 3: Celestia, Luna, and Discord, relative to the rest of the population, possess the traits stated in fact 2. Produced by the phenomenal J.R. SCS 7,518 September 27, 2014 Share September 27, 2014 I think Discord and the princesses have an immense amount of power, but certainly not infinite power. I've also never viewed any of them as gods. I view them as primeval beings that symbolize core aspects of the show's universe.Perhaps one of Discord's limitations is that he is unable to truly heal himself. If he were able to do so, you'd think he could have escaped the prison the Elements of Harmony put him in, unless that would override that capability in some way. As for the princesses, they have a lot of power but only to a certain extent. The Twilight's Kingdom episodes in season 4 implied to me that the magic of Celestia, Luna, Cadence, and Twilight was roughly equivalent in power to that of every other pony in Equestria combined. This is because they were saying how they couldn't stop Tirek since he had Discord at his side. This implies to me that Tirek having absorbed the magic of every pony in Equestria might have been about as powerful as, or perhaps a little less powerful than the four princesses. This presents an interesting idea: balance is an aspect of harmony, and perhaps their social system inherently incorporates balance in the sense that the rulers and the civilization itself must be roughly equal in magical power. So yeah, Discord and the princesses are powerful, but their power is not unbounded. I believe that this is deliberate. I have never felt that the focus of MLP:FiM was power. It seems to focus more on truth. The only infinite power displayed in the show thus far seems to be that of the Elements of Harmony/Rainbow Power, as it is far more than what any single pony could embody on their own. Happiness and peace isn't brought about by one being having a ton of power and using it to control everything. It's brought about through a group effort, through unity, in the positive direction. Cloud Yeller 69 September 30, 2014 Share September 30, 2014 Well here are my crazy Ideas about MLP magic and the overrated Princesses. The Alicorns are more powerful than any other Unicorn but they still have a limit. They are bound by their cutie mark. (Not gonna have episodes referenced sorry) One episode it was mentioned that unicorns can only do magic that relates to their special talent, i.e. their cutie mark, so Rarity can use magic to make clothing, Trixie can do a lot of illusions but not battle magic. Twilight is special among the unicorns as her special talent was magic itself. Luna and Celestia's powers are linked to the Sun and Moon. They get more powerful when their heavenly body is up and they can have some control over when they rise and set, but its never been shown that they have anymore influence on them, so they probably can't use them as a doomsday weapon. Discord has similar limitations. He is the embodiment of disorder not death so his magic is limited to throwing the system out of whack using transmutation but he can't kill things. His opposite and his weakness is Harmony, Order, hence Celestia and Luna couldn't defeat him until they gained a connection to the elements of harmony. Now Celestia and Luna are equal in power but are also opposites. When Luna became Nightmare Moon they were at a standoff because they had equal power. Celestia had to boost her power to defeat her by Bonding with the Elements of Harmony. Fast forward and Celestia's connection to the Elements is severed and Nightmare Moon escapes captivity as the balance of power is restored between the two sisters. Twilight and friends are now bonded to the Elements of Harmony. It boosts Twilights power but as a Unicorn she can't banish NM but she does get her to let go of the hatred in her heart. Fast forward again and as an Alicorn her power increases, plus she has the Elements to help her. Now Twilight and the girls have the Discord Kryptonite so they keep him in check. Tirek technically has no power of his own. He can absorb magic from others and then use their abilities very much like Rouge from X-Men. With each pony he absorbs he gets more powers. It seems as far as a total power level goes the Alicorns together = all the ponies together as was mentioned earlier in this thread. So when the Alicorns pass their power to twilight she is equal in power to Tirek. Twilight + Elements+ Alicorns = Tirek + Discord+ All Ponies. Twilight gets a slight edge in the upcoming battle , Not just because the writers can't let the hero lose, but her special talent is magic itself, while Tirek has no talent in magic so he can only be as good at magic as the most powerful being he has absorbed and only as good as they were at those magics. Like I said before, the other magical creatures are limited in the kind of magic they can use, while Twilight has no constraints. So while both their power levels are OVER 9000!!! Twilight is a trained and naturally talented magic user while Tirec is an untrained munchkin. TL:DR Twilight underrated. All other magic users overrated. Guest October 2, 2014 Share October 2, 2014 Luna and Celestia raise the moon and sun. (Luna; moon Celestia; celestial which basically means space). Twilight so my favourite but it signifies the time between sunshine and moonshine which is twilight. So these two first, Luna and celestia are gods and the rest are assistance. Look at inkrose's headcannon about discord.
