TenorSounds 832 September 12, 2014 Share September 12, 2014 (edited) Well, judging on your first post you probably need to work on grammar, punctuation and capitalization. Unless you're just doing that for affect, in which case don't do that in RP. Really all roleplaying is is telling a story with multiple people. Think of it like writing a novel in real time, just taking turns. Is there anything in particular you don't understand about roleplaying? I might be able to give more specific pointers if I knew what you were having trouble with. Edited September 12, 2014 by TenorSounds 2 Check out my YouTube Let's Play Channel! M'aiq the Liar 5,804 September 12, 2014 Share September 12, 2014 Well just get into character, and describe what you are doing. Imagine it like narrating your characters actions, you must simply describe what they are doing, how they are doing, and occasionally why they are doing. After you get those basics down you can move into more advanced things like vocabulary, tone, and other literary stylistic choices. http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/vera-yeoman-r5921Muh pleb tier OC .http://mlpforums.com/blog/1663/entry-12477-pony-waifu-wedding-13-maiq-x-fleetfoot/ MLP forum's #1 Fleetfoot fan also married to fleetfoot <
Buck Testa 5,505 September 13, 2014 Share September 13, 2014 (edited) I think I could give a few pointers. 1. Plotting with your partner: from my experience the most critical step to rping is making sure your partner and yourself are on the same page. It is important that you both agree about the general direction of the story. Its a play you make up as you go along and you do not want to stifle creativity by planning too much, but just enough to inspire as you write. This method also helps break writers block. 2. Paragraphs: Every sentence must have a subject and a predicate. This is basic knowledge for any form of writing. However paragraphs in fiction and rps differ from paragraphs in something like an essay because of the fact it has to fulfill two functions. In a story each scentence must not only go together in a unifying thought but it must also show who is in the scene, What they are doing, where they are doing it, why all this is taking place as well as giving clues as to when this is taking place. The other is to respond to what the partners character is doing without taking control of said character If you can do that you are well on your way to not sucking at rping. Starshine 16,333 September 13, 2014 Share September 13, 2014 For one thing you'd need a heck lot of exercise if you want to get better in roleplay. Try to get some going with your close friends. This thread's got some nice pointers. I'd would recommend seeing your characters and what they do through a 'cameraman' point of view. The audience have no idea what exactly is going on, and it's your job to describe how things are going to them. Let's say your character walks into a scene. How do they enter the scene? Hurriedly or perhaps slowly tentatively? How do they look like at the time, what do they wear? What's their immediate reaction to the scene? Is there any particular detail of that scene that stole your characters' attention? And then what do they do? Write things slowly and take your time.
Oblivion 20,266 September 13, 2014 Share September 13, 2014 Description, Description, Description! You need to learn to describe everything you do in the form of words, if your character opens a door you just don't say "Said character opens the door and walks in" you need to describe it much better than that so you can give other players a good feel for what you are trying to say and give them sort of an idea of what sort of emotions or feelings your character is feeling at that time, so instead something like, "Said character pauses for a moment, thinking carefully of what was to come, slowly he put a hoof on the door and began to open it with a gentle turn as the soft creek of the door swinging open seemed to break the almost deafening silence." See what I did there, all I was doing was writing a story, that's really all rp'ing is about, the only real thing you have to worry about is making sure that everyone in the rp also gets the full depth of the situation so then they can in return make a good response.

Dewdlz 938 November 7, 2014 Share November 7, 2014 I'm also new with RP'ing. I can actualize characters and personalities just fine, switching between the two effortlessly, except I'm only good at dialogue. I've only RP'd with one person here in PM which I suppose I did okay. It was improvised. https://widekmusic.bandcamp.com/album/journey-to-the-stars ^Space-djent music for Luna.
