Doesn't matter, since it's not a complex situation like earth pony magic, but something that can be determined through observation. In that manner, even if the writers were to say it, they'd be wrong, since it contradicts what actually happened.

I doubt that the rock actually caused fission. Pony magic has caused a mushroom cloud effect on a few occasions and there has been no fallout or the like that comes with a nuke. Therefore whatever Maud did causes that effect but is not a nuclear blast.

I have had a theory that Earth Ponies have a magic based tactile telekinesis that allow them to lift things with their hooves and do things like applebucking. If this theory is correct then Maud "throwing" the rock would be like Twilight levitating it. Also it could explain the odd discharge upon hitting the ground resembling a mushroom cloud.
