ManaMinori 4,145 September 25, 2014 Share September 25, 2014 I'm having a bit of trouble remembering, but I think it was an Asian folktale about some guy who was an artist, and the things he painted would come to life off the canvas.....Does anyone know what that folktale is? (I don't think it was "the boy who drew cats", but something similar...?) 1 Under the Jellicle Moon- a site with cuteness, cat boys, and comic strips / Star Dreams Fanclub
Frostgage 7,975 September 25, 2014 Share September 25, 2014 The Teen Titans movie had something like that. I'm not sure what you're thinking of exactly but you might find it here. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ArtInitiatesLife 1 Signature by Lacerna | You should fill out my Johari Window. Thanks for the link, though. I think I found the one I was thinking of. 1 Under the Jellicle Moon- a site with cuteness, cat boys, and comic strips / Star Dreams Fanclub
I used to be a stranger 7,993 September 26, 2014 Share September 26, 2014 (edited) J.R.R. Tolkien wrote a story called Leaf by Niggle which is about an artist who wishes to paint a perfect leaf, and in doing so realizes to himself that the leaf would only truly be perfect if it was accompanied by a few more leaves. Before he knows it, the composition to make the perfect leaf, demands of himself that he paints a full tree, and then an entire forest. Niggle then goes on a journey, and discovers the place that he traveled to is in fact the forest that he painted. Many interpret the story to be an allegory of Tolkien's own creative process, and how the entirety of the history of Arda (of which Middle-Earth and the events of Lord of the Rings are just a small part) came to be. Fhaolan 4,483 September 26, 2014 Share September 26, 2014 There's a Chinese folktale of an artist who draws dragons, but refuses to finish them because if he does, they come to life and terrorize the land. It's pretty darn old, and I don't think it has a name as such.
