111111 111 October 5, 2014 Share October 5, 2014 The amazing students of James Madison University in Virginia had heard that a homophobic man was to preach about what´s bad with homosexuality and how those people going to end up in hell. This is how the students responded. Can´t do more than to take off my hat for the great students of James madison University.
Invincible 2,092 October 5, 2014 Share October 5, 2014 Isn't really much to say, well done indeed, but on a side note, everyone should have the freedom to express their opinion - even bigoted people like that guy. If his preaching were a waste of my time, i'd just walk away - he'd probably only reach people who are already in line with his ideas. 1 My OCs for Roleplay purposes: o Lit Fuse (http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/lit-fuse-r6608) o Dust Devil (http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/dust-devil-r7357)
Mr Underhill 219 October 5, 2014 Share October 5, 2014 If only the rest of the world could respond to hate and intolerance the same way... “There is more in you of good than you know, child of the kindly West. Some courage and some wisdom, blended in measure. If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.” ~ Thorin Oakenshield 1 Signature by Jewel of Rarity
iceestarz 5,847 October 5, 2014 Share October 5, 2014 (edited) I mean...when it comes to ideals and morals such as topics like wether homosexuality is right or wrong it can get messy. On one hand they have a right to express how they feel, but on the other hand the other side has a right to be who they are without feeling persecuted by anyone else. either way both sides make a point. It all comes down to people's personal beliefs. Me and my good friend always get into little disputes. Nothing that obviously tears apart our friendship but we are like complete opposites. I'm a liberal, she's a conservative. I'm pro choice, she's pro life. I believe gays should have just as much rights as straight, she believes that homosexuality is a sin and can be fixed like it's some diesase. Yes we tend to butt heads over these matters and probably say things that piss one another off, but in the end it all comes down to personal beliefs. Sigma 768 October 5, 2014 Share October 5, 2014 (edited) To anyone thinking that this (metaphorically) soap boxing man has a right to do what he's doing, let me just say: My belief is that it's possible to abuse your freedom of speech. Just look at Westboro Baptist Church and the funerals they protested. Now, that's no excuse to dismiss a rational argument, but when you got people like the man in the video who are bigoted and simply won't have it any other way, there's no reason to let them stick around and yell "You're gonna burn in hell!", because all they're doing is hurting the feelings of homosexuals and bisexuals who consider themselves Christians. No one is going to listen to a bigoted street preacher and go "Hmm, I've never thought about it that way... Yea, I think he has a point!" They're either going to be a nodding head and yell "Amen brother!" or react the same way as the college students did in the video and drown out the preacher with their own little counter protest. Bigoted and hurtful speech doesn't do anyone any good. All it does is stir up drama.
