Your ideal MLP story

While ignoring the actual show, what's your ideal kind of fanmade MLP story, particularly from a fic? It could be sad, comedy, dark, romance, slice of life, or adventure. For me, I really like a story that  can have all of that. It could be an adventure that has a fair share of cute, funny, feels-y, dark, and action-packed moments, and can have scenes that would be considered dramatic, epic, heartfelt, and even really violent moments. This fic is a great example of that. http://www.fimfiction.net/story/183531/mlp-next-generation-know-fear

For me I like to keep things in the feel of My Little Pony. I really want to write but it just seems that I don't have the motivation. I've got so many stories in my head that I don't think are good enough. I love adventurous fantasy (JRPGs have kind of influenced me in that way) type stories. I'd really like to see a take on the lore though, keeping to the vague outline of it while adding a bit of flair to it you know that takes place present day (in Equestria) and doesn't have the mane six as main characters. (I love them and all but I want to see other peoples characters moreso than the six.)

Cheria (right) is a small town girl who was afflicted with a terrible sickness when she was very young. Meeting Sophie changed that however. She recovered almost instantly from her illness due to Sophie's magic and gained an undeniable talent with her own, and what does she do with this magic? She acts as a healer for her small town and helps the militia keep the hostile border safe. Seven years later, she's started a nation-wide relief organization after her adventure with Sophie and Friends, a great connection to the element of generosity.

Also, I like when such stories have characters in different parts of Equestria, as well as places outside of it.

Yeah That's my problem. My team of OCs are all ponies (not all from equestria), I need to get a little more diverse with my characters.

Try coming up with OCs that are non-ponies, like griffons, zebras, deer, kirins, minotaurs, as well as nagas and satyrs (make those as less human as possible).

I mean I use this Map as a point of reference (not because it's cannon, because it's cool as all hell) But are deer, kirins, minotaurs, nagas, and satyrs cannon? I mean I break cannon at tad bit here and there but.

If you have to pay for your internet by mb, be warned this picture is massive.

They're not canon (except for minotaurs), but they're used in lots of fanfics.

I really like that map btw, but it's really old. You could tweak it in your own image a bit if you so desire. You could even add nations for additional races in the blank parts of that map. An Egyptian themed nation for Sphinxes would also be nice.

But I'm nowhere near that creative (and I know what you mean about minotaurs but wasn't he suppose ot just be a bull? I guess he does seem kind of minotaurish.). And I think the map's creaotr is still working on it (not so sure on that)

Nope, it was totally said that Iron Will's a minotaur. Satyrs could look more like goats/rams and nagas could look like this. http://www.deviantart.com/art/Naga-of-Eponia-307233335

I generally prefer the slice-of-life stuff with a little adventure and character development thrown in.

Or...

A 'KICK ME' sign is pasted onto Diamond Tiara. She is kicked by the entirety of Equestria before she realises why.

That's what she gets for being such an attention horse. :fiery:

I tend to like fanfics that are written in the same principles an episode is written. For example, my Silver Spoon fanfic taught that you should not let your cutie mark control you and that while you should do things yourself, it doesn't mean you should not sometimes accept someone else's help. I personally like the child friendly environment the show has to offer.

This is just my opinion, though.

Oooo, that reminds me about a race of naga-ish people that my DM put in his world. I wanna gush about it but I feel that's kind of off topic.

That's kind of what I want in a MLP fanfic, the feeling that nothing is quite as good when you do it alone as with help from your friends, and one of my characters has a cutie mark that she doesn't particularly love either.

I adore Ship fics with Top notch characterization. There have been stories that made me love a ship by how well they captured the essense of the characters involved. If its just a by the numbers thing it does nothing for me, I have to believe this could plausably happen with these characters if things played out that way, or they would act like that as a couple.
