A Pony civil war?

I had an idea for a plot arc and wanted your thoughts. What if there were to be a Pony civil war of sorts? Obviously they wouldn't be able to see blood and guts and shooting and killing as in your typical civil war, but I am sure they could come up with something with some political intrigue, back stabbing, certain factions against each other etc. etc.

I think it could possibly be cool, something akin to what happened to the 3 Pony races in Heart's warming eve.

Vivia la revolution down with the upperclassmen

They would have no reason to do this. All ponies live in perfect harmony now, thanks to Princess Celestia and Princess Luna.

Your picture says otherwise lol

Saw this on a brony site I'd give credit to but I'm terrible at names & can't recall it (I'm even worse w the Internet & can't find it again)

They had Princess C vs Princess Luna, who would win?  They reckoned Twilight would back C, almost no matter what ( & I reckon it'd rip her up something fierce if she felt she couldn't in good conscience do that)

They reckoned Fluttershy would categorically refuse to join either side under almost any circumstances (unless 1 side was so clearly in the right as to be ridiculous not to & even then refuse to fight)  They figured her to form a sort of Pony Red Cross to aid the victims of both sides (wounded, refugees, etc)  At 1st, this looks like no big deal.  I mean Fluttershy in a fight is about as useful as a parachute in a submarine & she is doing some good in a harmless way.

However, given an alternative to either side, it picks up power at an amazing pace.  Discord w almost certainly help his friend Fluttershy & that gives them the muscle to be taken seriously.  Zecora would probably help in this goal (I reckon she'd be formidable in a fight, but she's shown she's willing to avoid 1 when possible.)  Between F's ability to ask animals were the armies are & Z's sneakiness, they've got a pretty formidable spy corps.

They saw Dash as fighting w the Wonderbolts (& the Shadowbolts being for Luna) & the Apples as being on Celestia's side. (Farms need the sun)  They also reckoned most of the artistic types as rebels (Includes Rarity, Vinyl Splice, & Octavia.  So, we know who got the cool uniforms & best battle songs).  I see Pinkie as being on the rebel side (as being more fun) until she sees just how horrible & unfun war can be, then apologizing & joining F.

So, that is my final answer.  The middle force of neutrals headed by F is powerful enough to be decisive & force a peace.  For those who question this, I'd say look at Ghandi, Martin Luther King Jr, or the Freedom Riders. The moral force of a nonviolent ideal can be overwhelming.   Or, look at Bosnia.  Maybe not.

A civil war over who should be ruler of Equestria perhaps? Celestia vs Luna or Celestia vs Twilight? Sounds like it would be epic B)

I think it carries about as much water as a Sunday bucket. What would be the impetus for such a rebellion? In order to rouse such an opposition as to make it sizeable enough to be a threat it would take quite a good reason. As the sisters have returned to harmony, Twilight just about worships Celestia, and Cadance and Shiny couldn't stand against their own sister. The whole thing is much too stable for war to break out and any revolt not involving one of the alicorns would be outmatched and snuffed out before it began. Celestia has ruled for a long time. That experience can not be underestimated and would lead to wise decision making that would keep it from happening in the first place.

Besides all that, a war just isn't right for the tone of the series. Bandits, lone wolves and mythical beings in isolated problems are more the right speed.

I honestly doubt they'd figure out a way to use the ponies if they did it. From what we've seen the ponies are perfectly content with their lives. If there'd be a civil war, I'd go with a minority, like zebras, griffins, or even diamond dogs. If anything they seem to be the most likely to harbor anger with ponies (what with the freaking out when one of them walks into town or the insults to their pride/culture), so a civil war could be about them.
