open Journey Through Space (Reboot)

On the opposite end of the train car was a green stallion with brown hair and brown eyes, and a orange mare with magenta hair and magenta eyes.  The mare was leaning against the stallion and appeared to be sleeping.  The stallion had his right arm under a blanket covering the mare.  The stallion had a pair of wireless headphones (like a pair of BOSE headphones or Beats) over his head and was staring out the nearby window into Luna's Night Sky.  He also appears to be holding a small, golden, animatronic butterfly.  After a long time the butterfly begins to move around  His attention becomes focused on the butterfly, which is now flapping it metal wings.  He smiles at the butterfly and turns it off, placing it into a small, wooden box.  Then the stallion resumes staring into the night sky.  If you listen hard enough, you can barely hear him humming the song he's listening to, which sounds like something by The Living Tombstone.

Star Chaser noticed at the mechanical butterfly flying about for the small seconds before it's deactivated.

He gave an approving smile at the green pony, she noticed the older filmy resting next to him.

"Is that your sister?" She asks him, thinking he may have heard her.

The green stallion looked towards Star Chaser, removing his headphones.

 

Nodding, "Yes, this is my sister."

 

Deciding that he should introduce himself to somepony so he's not a complete stranger to everyone, he introduces himself.

 

"I'm Steve Sentia, but you can just call me Steve."  "What's you name?"

She holds her rare smile, good impression.

"Star Chaser, I'm the flight officer... That's a pilot." She says.

She looks back at his sister.

"I've got a sister who's working on one of the orbital stations. I think she's near... Geo. That's one of them mineral rock planets." She continues.

"Nice to meet you." She says

A neon colored pegasi with no cutie mark entered the train..

 

When he entered the train he said.

 

Tadayma with a bored face.

He's still very tired from all the flying.

 

,may I ask??

Who is the manager here and would you be kind to tell me where this train is going??

Steve gives a genuine smile towards Star Chaser, gestures her to come over and Steve and his sister.

 

"It's nice to meet you Star Chaser!"  "Would you like to see some of the other things that I've made?"

 

He pulls out a small pocket watch, the butterfly he had out earlier, and small kitten.

She was comfortable where she was, but feeling modesty she takes a seat next to him. Her gaze immediately fell to the cat.

"Sweet Celestia! This is an animatronic?" She asks gently giving it a slight petting.

She then composes herself.

"You're quite talented." she says

The animatronic kitten looks up at Star Chaser, gives a quiet meow that sounds almost real, and jumps over to Star Chaser.  The kitten finds a comfortable position, lies down on her lap, and begins to purr.

 

"Indeed, I've been making animatronics for the majority of my life, and my sister here has helped with a few."

 

Gesturing towards the butterfly, "My sister made this butterfly herself, it's the first animatronic she made."

 

Curious to know a bit more about Star Chaser he asked a question about the near future.

 

"Do you know what the shuttle you'll be flying will be?"

"I do, she looks like any other frigate carrier I've seen." From her personnel handbag she takes out her mobile device displaying an image of the ship.

"It's called a Nomad, usually used for supply deliveries and such, this new one they'll have us in has been upfitted for FTL travel. " she says

"Interesting..."

 

Steve looked out at the rest of the train car, then back at the ship. 

 

"Is this the entire crew?" Steve gestures towards everyone else in the train car.

 

"For this," pointing at the picture of the ship, "large frigate?"

 

Steve flips open the pocket watch to check the time, then flips it shut and puts it away.

 

"We shouldn't be that far from our destination now, we're going to the North Pole, correct?"

"Well nowadays ships only need so few crew members with reliability now common amongst modern vessels." She says, "And yeah, up to Arctic North Traffic Control. It's like it says, a station taking in the traffic report of incoming and outgoing vessels." She says to him.

⁂ Sinu couldn't help but overhear the conversation in the back of the tram, only about a meter away from him, and had been listening to Star and Steve for a while. He finally becomes confident to say something; "An–" He gets interrupted without being noticed, and sighs awkwardly. He then waits momentarily for a short silence, and says, "Back in Manehattan, I spent a lot of time working on the aerophysics of the ship that we'll be the crew of."

Steve nods, now having a better understanding of the near future.  "So I assume you've met everyone in this train car, so can you tell me who is who and what they do?"

 

The animatronic kitten is curled up in a ball on Star Chaser's lap, purring with content. 

 

By now, the butterfly has been put away in its box, and Steve wakes his sister up,

 

"Hey, rise and shine little sis."  "We're almost to our destination."

 

The orange mare awakens, blinks her eyes a few times, and sits up.  The blanket covering the mare falls off of her, revealing that the mare is a Pegasus, and that Steve has an animatronic arm.  Steve reaches down for the blanket and folds it up before putting it away. 

 

The mare looks around, and sees the two ponies near them, Star Chaser, who is just across from Steve, and Sinu who isn't that far away.  Being the mare she is, she introduces herself to the mare in front Steve and the stallion just a meter away.

 

"Oh, hi there!"  "I don't believe I know either of you, my name is Abby Sentia."

Gizmo overheard Sinu mention of Manehatten.

"Oh oh! Was that your Alma mater?" He asks him almost nearly in his face.

Star narrowed her eyes, "Gizmo! Don't scare the lad." She says sternly.

Gizmo giggles a bit slightly embarrassed.

"Umm s-sorry sorry." He apologize returning to his seat.

"Hey there." She says greeting, giving a happy some.

⁂ "Wh... oh, okay" Sinu mumbles, nearly whispering, as he moves his head as far back as possible. He scoots back and says more confidently; "If by 'Alma mater', you mean that I went to school there, then yes." He wanted to ask about Steve's robotic leg, as he was always fascinated in robotics; but as always, he felt awkward and decided to say nothing.

Abby smiles, she rises to stretch then returns to her seat.  Abby leans against Steve, taking his headphones to start listening to music.

 

Steve stretches his animatronic arm, while he is doing this, one of the screws fall out.  Steve doesn't notice this.

 

There is a single die on a chain on Abby's neck.  The die is made of diamond.  Abby checks to make sure it is still on her, which it is.

 

Steve begins to talk before he realizes he has no idea who the stallion he's talking to is, so he introduces himself.

 

"I don't believe that you and I have met, I am Steve," looking at Sinu, "What is your name?"

Gizmo was a bit upset, "Sorry ... " he says his,ears drooped,

"I um get a little excited. I was just curious maybe we might have seen each other." He says, he scratches his head a bit a little embarrassed his enthusiasm returning.

"My bad!" He apologizes. He have a goofy smile.

"Oh hi there! It's like you blended I didn't notice you! Hehe I'm Gizmo! I'm the main engineer- Sweet Celestia your hoof!" He covers his mouth noticing Steve's prosthetic limb.

⁂ Sinu responds to Steve; I'm Sinusoid Mixolydian, applied physicist for this mission." His horn lights up with a pale gray glow, picking up the screw on the floor. Unable to keep his mechanical advice to himself, he says; "I believe you dropped this. Have you considered using a lock washer to hold it in place, or finding a larger screw by a half-millimeter or such?" He reaches into one of his vest pockets; "I probably have a 3.5 millimeter hexagonal wrench somewhere..." He is then distracted by Gizmo yelling something about Steve's hoof. He thinks to himself; "That Gizmo sure is outspoken; a little bit too much so."

Steve smiles, "Yep, I built it myself after sa-"

 

Abby interrupts Steve when she overheard Gizmo talking about Steve's leg.  "Well it's a long and complicated story..."

 

Steve finishes his sentence "-ving Abby from a timberwolf..."   "I lost my arm protecting my sister."  "Oh, thank you, it's just a little loose, it happens when I don't move my arm for extended periods of time."  "And nice to meet you!"  "Abby, can you grab me the 2 1/2mm Allen screwdriver, please?"

 

Abby rises from her seat and grabs the screwdriver and the screw from Sinu and hands them both to Steve.

 

Steve gets the screw back into his leg and tightening it.  He gives it a few stretches and everything is back in working order.

 

Abby puts the screwdriver away and resumes listening to music.

"Well I'm glad you're alright." Star says to Steve encouragingly. This was good, already a connection was being made.

 

Gizmo sat back in his seat, deciding he should remain quiet. He didn't mean to outburst, just rather surprised by it. Star looked back out to the window looking along the horizon.

⁂ Before Sinu has time to react, the screw is taken from its place, so he stops looking through his pocket. He hears abby mention the hexagonal wrench size and thinks for a moment; "2.5 milimeter? I could tell just by looking at the screw size that it was 3.5 milimeter. Maybe it's a nonstandard ratio. I've never seen a size like that before; I only use this one for adjusting my contrabass clarinet..."

Steve noticed the confusion in Sinu's voice, and explained why he used such a small wrench.

 

"Well, since my arm is basically now part of my body, I need to treat it with extreme care."  "Think of it like a wire that is part of a series circuit."  "If the wire becomes exposed, then it is a live wire, thus very dangerous."  "But if the wire becomes disconnected, then the circuit becomes open."  "It's the same idea with my leg and body."  "If my leg isn't tuned up properly then it becomes dangerous."  "and if the connection between my leg and my body is broken, then, well..."  Steve paused for a moment and looked everypony in the eyes.  "I become paralyzed..."  "Permanently..."

 

 

"Not to mention that I make all of my tools, that's probably why you can't find a 2.5mm Allen wrench."

Gold Rush pulled out his tablet pushing a blue button which activated a hologram mode.  He flips through a few files before displaying a 3D hologram of the planet Equestria land mass was part of. it even has a mini moon. "Ah anlyisitc software is working like I expected good very good.'  He tabs his hoof along the globe popping of small windows of infomoation.

Abby is holding her diamond die in her hoof while listening to music.  She thinks back at what Steve had to give up for her.  And she still doesn't think it was worth it.  But she stores that thought away for now, and moves her mind to a new question; what happened to her parents?  Her brother told her that they were killed in a freak accident.  She moves to another thought to think about; where are they going?  And will they ever see Equestria again?

⁂ "A live wire that is dangerous if disconnected, and the capacity to paralyze you; what kind of voltage are you using?! For danger like that, your voltage would need to be over 100, and it what have to be connected to your spinal cord to cause paralysis. It seems to me that over 100 Volts connected to your spinal cord is a pretty bad idea." Sinu says this rather intensely, but calms down a bit after a while.
