Apple Pie: Apple or Pie?

I'm not sure if someone has thought on this before, but Apple Pie is a member of Apple family so she's obviously related to Appelejack, but her last name is also Pie, so could she be related to Pinkie Pie too? I guess she's a hint that Applejack and Pinkie Pie could be relatives, no?

In any case anything is possible. I would think that it's also likely that just because she has 'Pie' at the end of her name doesn't mean she's related to the Pie family. Naming conventions in MLP don't work the same way as they to IRL.

 

But again, it's possible.

Just because she has pie in her name doesn't mean she is related to Pinkie Pie. Besides, in Equestria, some ponies have last names and some don't(e.x: Fluttershy and Twilight Sparkle). So perhaps their "second name" isn't a surname at all, but an additive to their first name. Using this information, there's a pretty good chance she isn't related to Pinkie Pie, but then again anything is possible.

In Pinkie Apple Pie, Pinkie says she is related to the Apples.  This would mean some member of each clan married into the other clan.  It's possible she is related to both the Pies and the Apples.

 

There is supposed to be a Pie family episode in Season 5, maybe this will be straightened out then.

I guess I'm not the only one who figured Apple Pie might be a common relative. To be honest, I would rather the show keep that as ambiguous, as the idea of Pinkie maybe being related to the Apples works, but it might be a little much if they are confirmed as relatives, and if it is confirmed that they aren't, then that entire intriguing sub-plot was for naught. The Pinkie Apple Pie episode works well because it manages to stay in that ambiguous grey area and opens up a very intriguing possibility while avoiding too much strain on the status quo. If this plot point is re-visited, I hope it would avoid any confirmation of Pinkie's status as an Apple or not as an Apple.

 

As for whether Apple Pie is an Apple or a Pie, I couldn't tell you, because the show doesn't stick to any kind of rule regarding surnames. For some reason Applejack and Applebloom have their surname first, while Twilight and Pinkie Pie have their surnames follow their first name just like it is with us. I guess it's possible that their last name is still Apple, but that would make Applejack, Applejack Apple. By that logic, Apple Pie would actually be a Pie, but she attends the Apple family reunionns which would make her an Apple, and I think if I keep trying to reach a definitive conclusion on Equestrian surnames that accounts for this glaring discrepancy, my head might explode.

i think she's not related to pie family and that pie in her name is just a reference to anything made with apples because the apple family have more experience with apples
