"Good..." she answered as she let him go and soon took a step back a bit.

 

"Now the first thing to fit in vampire culture is to keep in mind that they are higher than you. Until they've accepted you, you must stay in that position. This is easy, when a stallion looks at you make don't stare back with no fear the key is to act like you fear them. Be sure to make it convincing but don't over do it, look at them quick and that's it. Do not start any fights, arguments what so ever." she stopped for a moment then began to continue.

 

"The second part is the stats, for winning my hoof in courtship you must build up your stats that includes strength, agility, and wit. These will be important for when it's time for father to choose who proceeds until the very end. As the leading mare I must be fair so I will be watching during tasks. Third part is socializing, as the mare to be courted soon, each suitor will have the chance to be with me. How it goes is this, they give me blood, and I do what they ask of me. Do not hesitate to order me after giving blood, it is all about satisfaction in which a stallion can provide for me come my time of needs. As for other members, if you are gaining popularity and trust you may socialize with with the wise elders, other adults, and even my mother but not father." Rosetta still not but almost finished as sh continued to the final part.

 

"And finally if you win victoriously the courtship ceremony will begin when there's a day where the full moon comes out. Of course that seals us together is a kiss, so be careful when doing so because of my fangs." she said giving NightStrike the load down for everything he had to do as Rosetta would guide him through the months.

NightStrike listened to it all and let her finish talking before he started talking back. "Well I know that acting like I'm afraid of them will be difficult, I am no coward and I hate to have to run from things I can face. But I also know that bravery is not far away from stupidity. I won't get myself in trouble then, and I'll try to act as humble as I can." Yeah he was gonna hate this and he knew that, acting humble was not his style of play at all. But for Rosetta he'd do everything.

 

"So I'll be able to collect these stats eh?" He asked curiously "I reckon I get them by completing some sort of assignments and competitions right? I think I would be able to do that." NightStrike loved some good competition every once in a while so he knew that the second part wouldn't be that much of a problem. The third part seemed rather easy too to him. He could always be quite a talkative pony if he wanted to. So getting socialized with the vampires should be possible even though it would be hard for him. He also didn't feel entirely sure about what she said about ordering her. "So I'll have to order you around after giving you my blood? Eeeh what kind of orders shall I give to you then?"

 

And then came the part he liked most which was the kiss. And he was looking forward to it already, even though it will have to take many months before he could kiss her or could get intimate with her. He loved her more than enough to face month upon month of trials. In the end he added "Owh and don't worry Rosetta." He smirked showing his own predator like teeth "Mine might not be as long as your fangs but sharp regardless, let's say I'm used to it."

"You must least try to play this off accordingly, regarding when I said for giving me blood, not yours although it is optional, but most stallions fetch it. This is a offering for me, once I recieve this I, Rosetta in return do whatever you ask me. But only one so each suitor thinks ahead of time what he wants after the offering. You'll see this once it happens. Usually some might want a few moments to gander at my looks, and do whatever they please to do with me, some rather hear me sing, it could be anything. And listen, this courtship can only happen if father chooses you. So when you win, this kiss is the most important because this isn't a normal kiss, you must bite me as well me to bite you afterwards. This will be a problem because you don't have the proper ones like I do." She said finishing as she opened her mouth slightly showed her fangs.

"Well I could bite you I suppose" NightStrike said under his breath "Problem is I wouldn't like to bite a beautiful mare like you. And I can't suck blood like you vampires do." He also made a side note that he should think of a gift from Rosetta after he gave her the blood offering. It had to be something incredibly special to him what only she could offer him. He wondered if he could use his weapons in a fight, but he quickly figured that vampire ponies probably didn't use any weapons either, and he wouldn't want to have an unfair advantage over the rest of them. "So Rosetta?" He asked after a while "When will we be going?" He squeed enthusiastically  at her.

"It will take us months to get there, by the time we get there it will be time for you to show what mortals and my kind can coexist together. NightStrike, you will have to take hard hits from the others, the cruel things that they will say. I just want you to know that whatever they say, don't let it get to you, for I to feel that everypony is important, never weak, never a waste, always meaningful." she said as the mare looked at him smiling, she was close enough to almost kiss, but she knew this and wanted to see what would happen.

Smiling back as he looked at her, NightStrike suddenly noticed that Rosetta was close. Very very close to him actually, which in turn made him think of what it would be like if he would actually be to kiss her. As he looked into her eyes with a soft smile he leaned in even closer till their muzzles basically touched each other. But then suddenly his eyes went wide open and he slapped himself with his hoof "Uuurgh no I shouldn't do that... sorry. I mean, I suppose that the kiss I would give you on that night of courtship is supposed to be our first one right?"

Rosetta giggled as she gave him a small kiss on the cheek when he slapped himself. "Don't hurting yourself now I wouldnt want a single scratch on you, now the sun is going to rise, I must rest now. You should to, we have a long way ahead of us" she said still smiling as the mare walk to the nearest tree, climbing up to a branch, and hanged upside down closing her eyes.

NightStrike wondered how he would be able to keep up with her when she had wings and he did not. He figured he would probably have to run very fast. He watched her go to sleep hanging upside down in the tree and decided he could indeed use some himself. He walked to the same tree and lied down underneath her glancing upward shortly and smiled. "Goodnight Rosetta..." He whispered softly. Then he slowly drifted off to sleep as he thought about the trails he would have to face.

Both of the ponies slept through the day, dreaming of the journey they'll take to get to Rosetta's home. Rosetta deep down inside knew that this wasn't going to be easy, she knew father would never accept a mortal in courtship with her. Mother was a bit softer so she might be easier to handle. The mare knew that if NightStrike didn't win, she would have to be forced to mate with the other suitor, that's why she had to make sure he was ready. 

 

As day went by the sun started to set, the moon making it way up peaking out as sky went of warm to dark the shimmering lights of the stars and moon brought the beauty with the night. The mare started to wake up, slowly opening her eyes an she let out a yawn. Stretching her limbs she pulled herself back on the branch. She flew down as to go to NightStrike nuzzling the back of his ears to awake him. "NightStrike, wake up...we must be going" she spoke softly.

NightStrike squealed softly as he felt her soft muzzle nuzzle his hears. He opened his eyes and let out a small yawn stretching himself out. He quickly stuffed some food I'm his mouth he had prepared earlier and took with him for moments he had to leave in a hurry like these. "Good night to you lady Rosetta" he said jokingly, smirking at her. "And you look especially stunning tonight might I add". After that little shenanigan he prepared to leave with her. "So how will we be traveling?" He asked as he packed his belongings

"Well get there by flight is the quickest way to get there but you can't fly...so we might as well just walk there, which might take longer..you know what we'll walk, it wouldn't be fair if I were to fly and you were to walk all the way there, so if you can't fly then neither will I, NightStrike" she replied as the mare sniffing the air trying to figure out the way to the cavernous caves

"Will you walk all the way for me?" He smiled showing his teeth "Thanks for that Rosetta! Don't worry, I've got quite some condition so I won't be holding you up. He noticed she sniffed the air for something so he did the same, he couldn't smell whatever she was aiming for however. "So where will we be going mhm? Deeper into the Everfree forest? Or will we leave it and go some other way? For as far as I know vampires are kind of solitary so I suppose they must live far away from other pony races right?"

The mare stopped sniff the crisp air as she knew where to go. "This way, it's far away, we must walk out of the Everfree, passed the some grasslands, pass a few other villages, and once we hit the rocky parts outside of the village their will be a deep cave where we vampires stay. No mortals ever come near this cave, which gives us more privacy. To save extra piddling so we get there on time, we'll have to travel both day and night. So now is the time we should head off, that away." she said a the end she pointed her hoof to the direction they we're going to. Putting her hoof down she started walking.

"Well there we go then! Traveling again just like you used to NightStrike. But this time you do so with the mare of your dreams right next to you!" The stallion thought happily. He followed her with a happy bounce in his gait. "So Rosetta?" He asked trotting next to her "What do you think of me? As a stallion I mean?" He asked blushing. "You hope I will win right?"

"Well NightStrike, it's hard to say really, it's not that I don't think you'll win but I've seen these things happen before and, well it's never what you expect, but I have a good feeling about you...many stallions have lost their lives or seriously injured to the point where they can't even fly or walk the last around is the most gruesome it's a fight between the last two suitors but I know that you will win and once you do you'll be able to be excepted in the community of vampires." She said as she let out a sigh.

 

Then as they walked they a flashback occurred to Rosetta when she was very young, as her father showed her the first time she saw death and gruesome battles. Coming back to reality the mare shook her head, trying to get away from that. "I just want you to know that, even if you say your strong, never underestimate vampires for our strength is larger than you think. When you're out there, please be careful.." She added on as they continued their way.

NightStrike nodded "Yeah I suppose vampire ponies have got to be quite strong if they want to prey on other ponies like that right? Naah I won't underestimate them indeed. But still, I'd rather train all day and night than get my flank kicked by one of them." He snickered. Continuing to walk for a while he thought about how it would be to be accepted in the vampire community. To finally be accepted actually. Thing is, NightStrike has never really belonged anywhere up till now. Most ponies either shunned him or outright hated him. Now he was finally given the chance of acceptance he would happily take it.

 

"So because you're the daughter of the clan leader Rosetta, I guess there are many young vampire stallions who would like to compete for your hoof right?" He asked trotting next to her "So are there any other important figures in your community besides your mother and father?"

"Ooh yeah, to be paired with a clan leader's offspring gives every mare and stallion to give there all in order to determine the best of the group to who gets it. Many stallions will want to be given this chance for me, but alas my father chooses who ever goes in and who leaves. It has been so long to remember any of the colts I grew up around, well there was one colt who did protect me and was the only one who was a good friend. His name was Sterling Nite, as children we we're friends in a heartbeat. We'd always sit beside each other while listening to the elderly tell stories, went hunting and prey practice, for fun we'd love playing hide 'n' seek in the night, and for combat we always play fight. As we got older we became best friends, he had my back as would I *sigh* I'll never forget him, he was a good friend, but knowing where he is now, no idea. We had to leave our home for awhile I haven't seen him since the departure" she said as it seemed to bring a smile on her face.

 

"He was the only one who understood me more than anypony, he knew how to help even when I wanted to be alone. If he does show up, it would be nice to see him again." Adding on finally as the mare continue to walk.

"Uwwwh I get it" NIghtStrike replied uncomfortably "He was quite the awesome somepony..." Appearantly the mare liked that particular stallion a real lot. And that made NightStrike think. "What if she would be happier with him? I mean... I guess she would rather be with a vampire pony than with someone like me right?" He sighed deeply, he only wanted the best for her "Uurgh no" He shook his head to get the thoughts out "Snap out of it okay" He thought "Do you want to be together with her or not? If so then you better give it your very very best as it sure as hell won't be easy." The thought of this Sterling Nite kept spooking in his head though.

"But that was years ago, I doubt he'll even remember me, besides he always did admire another filly when we were kids, she never notice him but he was so in love as a colt, I wonder if they came together now.." She said as she looked at NightStrike for a sec before turning around. He seemed pretty bothered, maybe it was something she said, maybe because she was talking about other stallion that made him this way. She figured to try to not talk about it around NightStrike for it upsets him.

 

As they continued to walk Rosetta could see the opening of the forest, they were also out.

"Owh I see heh" NightStrike replied as he chuckled nervously and blushed out of shame "... sorry heh". Quickly changing subjects he smiled as they left the forest "Wiew, out of the shadows and into the open! I might like the darkness a lot but it feels good to have some fresh air every once in a while doesn't it Rosetta? I bet flying must give you that feeling too, it would surely be awesome to fly I think."

"Tis a gift given and well deserved for most living creatures, flying is some way is like running, only it feels beautiful beyond comparison to being grounded. Wings like mine though must be VERY careful, unlike pegasi my wings are skin and cartilage. One small pierce through the skin of my wings could easily turn into a bigger hole if not treated properly and I no longer can fly." She explained as they then enter into the grasslands.

NightStrike tilted his head "Yeah that does sound pretty fragile indeed. Luckily those holes are treatable then. I mean being forced to the ground is no fun but it must be especially bad for a pony who once had the ability to actually fly right?" He nodded "So yeah it would be amazing indeed to be able to fly, but well I'm kinda happy with my ability to use magic too. I don't think I could live without it" He chuckled softly

"I see, magic seems to be useful for more you're kind than mine, we're mostly made up of flyers some of my kind aren't born with wings but with horns, they're still vampires but more that blend into society as camouflage. I've never seen one with both traits it's way too how you say strange or odd." She replied sighing on the inside wishing she could fly not making it noticeable.

 

"According to legend, it's been said that there was a vampire who had both wings and a horn, gifted with magical quantities of magic that no other unicorn could ever possess. This vampire pony could bring a 5 clans down without a breaking a sweat. But it's impossible to even believe such silliness it was only a story, most likely to have been made up." She added as they continued to walk throughout the land.

"Sounds pretty much like a royal alicorn to me, but then a vampire one. I mean you might be a vampire but you've at least heard of the two regal princesses right? Princess Celestia and Princess Luna?" He asked politely. NightStrike also had to chuckle, as seemingly the more magically gifted vampires where just as stealthily as he was preferring to blend into the environment rather than using force to surprise his or her victims.

"Yes, I have, we respect both equally but the princess of the night, Luna is the one we honor our own. I'm sure you can understand why, no further explanation will be needed, but we praise the night, it's beauty, in honor, the night means more to us than the day." She answered taking A quick glance at the moon she let out a sigh.

 

"when I was younger I always dreamt of meeting the princess of the night one day, to every vampire and every nocturnal creature she is the mother of darkness, when we look at her beautifully crafted moon as the stars twinkle in this night sky we are constantly reminded that she is looking out for all of us for all of her subjects." She finished and the mare faintly smiled
