TheNewVinylScratch 4 December 23, 2014 Share December 23, 2014 (edited) I was doing some thinking on pony armor, specificly the helmets and realized a flaw in the design As you can see all of these helmets have little to no ear protection. Allowing an enemy to injure or cut off the ears very easily. in my picture bellow I fixed the problem. (i was in a hurry and did a simple sketch, so don't hate on me for art quality, im not a great drawer, even in inkscape) my fairly simple but improved design would add small curved ear gaurds to the helmet with small holes or slits in them to allow for hearing. This simple add on would protect the ears from any frontal attacks. I left the back open on this design to allow for better hearing and to keep to keep the head cool. but full ear covers could be added. If you guys like this sort of thing let me know ( pony armor practicality analysis). I am an armature medieval arms and armor nerd and have a couple more things like this that I could go into great detail on. hope you find this interesting. The Shadow Stallion 127 December 23, 2014 Share December 23, 2014 Im pretty experienced when it comes to armor and Im okay at drawing. Now I've spent hours trying to come up with full head covering helmet designs and its a pain in the plot to come up with a good helmet let alone full body armor. Now for the armor here, the ears are a noteable vulnerability but then again, the legs are also exposed. Damage to one of the forelegs could lead to the pony being crippled fairly easily. My solution is chainmail overlayed with maybe some halfplate or something. Or just some simple plate kneeguards. Chainmail on the neck from the helmet to the chestpiece. Maybe a faceguard for the helmet.
Star Saber 114 December 23, 2014 Share December 23, 2014 However if they were to wear too much armor it would make it harder to move and fly; so there that to be concerned over. To be fair, armor shown in the show looks more ceremonial than practical.
Oblivion 20,268 December 23, 2014 Share December 23, 2014 Well, for an earth pony like big mac I could understand him having this huge hulking Master Chief type armor, because he would actually be strong enough to lug it around, and well, he's an earth pony anyway so he wouldn't have to worry about agility when flying. While if a pegasus wore too much armour their would be no way to get off the ground, WHICH, yet again brings up another point, their wings, what would keep another aerial enemy from just simply one, cutting off their opponents wings, or two shooting arrows upwards towards the belly area and also aiming for the wings as well. I really don't think that armour is going to protect them much, I think that the greatest advantage of a pegasus in battle would be their sheer agility, and since high powered rifles don't knowingly exist in Equestria then I believe that most pegasai could get to a high enough altitude too dodge any thing in terms of incoming projectiles, magic bursts etc... Creamy Arty 6,252 December 24, 2014 Share December 24, 2014 Too bad your links didn't work, but A for effort. Everything you described sounds cool to me. Ear protection is an important consideration I hadn't even thought much about. I do think they need some grieves though. Lack of leg armor doesn't seem to smart. 1 Kyoshi made this ^^ Come join us on Equestria.tv on Fridays at 6 PM Eastern for our weekly movie nights! Queen Sparkle 104 December 24, 2014 Share December 24, 2014 Wait your all forgetting something, forging magic or something else. If magic is forged into a piece of armor a pony could wear 1 piece of armor and if somepony tried shooting them or fighting them a force field would go up around them or they find some sort of thing place it in the armor and constant adrenaline so they can carry all the weight of it even if it's not one piece of armor
