What do you think of "Body Swaps"?

WOOOOOOOOOOOO MAKING A THREAD WHEN IM TIRED! always the best choice! Merry Christmas!

-We see it in a lot of places. Commonly in movies, stories, and shows. The idea of one person becoming the other, usually do to a lesson that must be learned, or some scientific or spiritual accident that must be fixed. Always interesting to watch or read, well for me at least. But why?

-Anime can take this idea a bit too far, I try to avoid that region.

-I don't necessarily "like" the idea of 'Body Swaps' it just interests me a lot, and I am not quite sure why. I believe I like to see how one person reacts as if they WERE another person, how they maintain mental control, how they handle the situation in general, or how they would interact with other people. I don't know, but then again, this thread isn't entirely about my opinion. So what are your thoughts on the idea of 'body swaps' in stories, shows, and movies?

I downright hate the idea. It's one of the things i dread happening to me as technological progress probes the mind and consciousness. In physical terms, i'm not perfect - far from it, i'd say - but i love my body. After all, it was given to me 24 years ago and it served me well. It's not just my vessel, physical projection into the world, it's my first ever material possession. The idea of someone swapping bodies with me is horrifying.

I'd personally rather improve my body through technology or be able to craft it at my own whim - but being stuck in another is scary - you have no idea where you might end up at, or if you'd be able to use your body at all (I imagine that me personally, i wouldn't be able to adjust to all the biological and neurological nuances of a different body as fast, unless it's a male human body which my mind can roughly understand).

The story in episodes or series that involve characters "Swapping" bodies is generally poorly done and I find myself unable to "Get into" them. I think if they had better stories, they'd be more interesting to me, but generally speaking the majority of Body Swap encounters take place in a single episode where it's more or less a distracting adventure from the main plot. These types of encounters are among my least favorite because you become invested in the series and want to see it continue. In other words, they are more or less "Filler" episodes.

If you're interested in body swaps, I suggest checking out TVTropes. You can find a list of just about every situation in which a body swap occurs.

I think that I would enjoy the idea far more if they brought some sort of realism into the whole idea of "body swapping." Worst and often most common case scenario is when they wake up without noticing for long, when in truth if one swapped bodies (particularly if it was to one of the opposite gender) I think your mind would get terribly confused from the sensations. Throwing up, headaches and generally feeling "not-all-there," would likely be commonplace in a more realistic example, and even that's assuming the brain knows how to force the body to vomit.

"Q'sal, a singular, labyrinthine mind composed of a billion conflicting, paradoxical wills. Have you ever seen the swirling Aetherstorms in it's atmosphere? Smelled the shifting perfumes of intrigue upon it's people? Tasted the gluttonous banquets of ambition permeating from the Sorcerer-Technocrats? Heard the exquisite lies and thoughts of an unknowable population? No Slaaneshi pleasure I have indulged in comes close to that feeling, only in the embrace of Apotheosis could one aspire to find anything greater."

I personally detest body swap in any form, because in most cases its only purpose is for awkward comedy as two individuals of complete opposite lifestyles or personalities "attempt" to act like one another and fail completely. The movie Freaky Friday comes to mind and that was an awful movie. Don't even get me started on when the swapped individuals don't even make an effort to act different and yet it takes forever for everyone else to notice something is off with the nice guy suddenly acting like a super villain.

I like watching that in movies and shows, It's pretty entertaining imo, although I can't think of many examples;

Freaky Friday

The Change-Up

The Hot Chick

are the only movies that come to mind right now, and I greatly enjoyed them all.

In real life, I would hate if my body got swapped with someone else permanently, I was going through some self esteem issues at some point, and I had a dream where I was able to switch bodies with a certain celebrity permanently if I wanted to, I almost did, but I chose not to and to keep my body instead, It was a nice, self-realising, self loving dream, I woke up feeling happy and confident, I don't think the dream was about just my physical body, but I'm sure it had some meaning about loving and accepting who I am and how I was born, and not wanting to change that or rather be someone else instead.

Although a body swap for a day or 2 would be fun, maybe, well depends who, if it's an asshole they can embarrass the shit out of you and possibly ruin your reputation, or your life for a bit, I'd have fun fucking around for a bit in someone else's body but I'd be too nervous about what they are doing with mine.....so maybe if I had a body swap with someone I trust I'd do it, if we don't mind seeing each other naked :P
