Arctofire 227 January 12, 2015 Share January 12, 2015 Okay so I used some software called Technitium MAC Address Changer, and I've been using it for quite a while. Basically my parents have used a internet BT filter to stop me going online after a certain time, and I have tried to override that. Its worked on occasion, but only temporarily, because it stops working after a while and I have to change it back. I also can't change it again for a certain amount of time. The point is, I have no idea what my computers doing, so anyone who happens to know, could you please point it out to me. Thanks.
Derplight Sperkle 1,013 January 12, 2015 Share January 12, 2015 The thing about MAC addresses is that they are ingrained to your network card. What the software is doing is MAC shadowing (don't know exactly if correct term). The software is changing the address so it can get through the filter. Now It seems the card is getting through the software or your router is seeing through the disguise from time to time. The only true way permently change your MAC address is to get a new network card. 1 Signature by me Equestrian Empire Cast Characters: Daring Do, Twilight Sparkle My awesome OC
Ridley Wolf 291 January 12, 2015 Share January 12, 2015 (edited) There's always the option of accepting that your parents are trying to do what's best for you, and stop going against their wishes. That is a thing that you can do. Edited January 12, 2015 by Ridley Wolf

No way a replacement network card will get through your parents 1 Signature by me Equestrian Empire Cast Characters: Daring Do, Twilight Sparkle My awesome OC

Trust me I have tried to convince them but they say that they need me to get enough sleep. So I guess I will just have to do it this way. If you want to object then that's not helpful, I just managed to get through it today and its working fine. The best no hassle way would get a USB adapter so you don't have to actually install it to the motherboard. But sleep is important, just keep that in consideration. 1 Signature by me Equestrian Empire Cast Characters: Daring Do, Twilight Sparkle My awesome OC
Arctofire 227 January 12, 2015 Author Share January 12, 2015 Whats the difference between an ethernet adapter and a network card, or are they the same thing. I googled how to install a new network card so once I have the machine I should be good to go. I also found a dongle for £20 if that's any use. Derplight Sperkle 1,013 January 12, 2015 Share January 12, 2015 Nerwork cards have Ethernet adapters, another question is how do you connect? Wired or Wireless? Arctofire 227 January 12, 2015 Author Share January 12, 2015 (edited) I can do either. Wired is fine as its almost certainly cheaper. Edited January 12, 2015 by Arctofire
Derplight Sperkle 1,013 January 12, 2015 Share January 12, 2015 So a wired network will for what you need to do. Still gonna need a wire from your router to your pc. But the problem may occur that your parents block the new card.
