The Emporer had been sick for a worrlingly long time. It was enough we had to turn away the Kaiser.

"Sir" I began slowly creaking the door to his bedchambers.

"Yes, Atlas?"

"The Kaiser came by"

"He did? Where is he?"

"Ah... I see..." He seemed dispointed. He hated being ill. It made him feel weak and he felt it made the naiton weak.

"Well we are a very industrial nation run by a Federal Monarchy, that takes pride in its military and considers itself to be modern. Lots of history, dating back over a thousand years, but our borders without the recent expansions are only three generations old, with the unity of the batpony kingdoms. Eversince we've worked towards improving technology, and setting goals for the future. The weather is cooler there. We get a nice southward drift of cold air that keeps us temperate. Summers are mild, where as winters bring lots of snow. Plenty of forests and mountains and alright coastline. We specialize in producing coal and Iron for our factories and what not. Our economy is as great as ever, steadily increasing annually, and plenty of funds in case of an emergency. The Kaiser controls production, so rather than tax us, he just takes the governments share, reinvests the rest after paying everyone. It's working quite nicely so far. As I said earlier, we are allies of Pegasonia, and recently claimed lands west of us and taking the northern half. We're also allies and trade partners with the Griffon Kingdom just north of us. We haven't done much together and trade has to wait till we finish our new rail lines that'll connect us. They basically allow large metal and sometimes partially wooden carts to carry a lot at a decent pace over long distances. We've got a blockade stretching all the way from the end of the Raging River which connects the north sea to this southern one, and the the blockade stretches from there all the way to the Griffons. Some naval activity has been spotted coming around this area, still a bit south of here, and with the loss of a vessel of ours while pretty far out to sea, and the Kaiser leaving the country to go here and there, we've practically placed half of this continent I'd bet on high alert just to secure ourselves from an unknown enemy." he smirked. "I think that's about it as far as Abendstern goes generally and with recent events. Though there's ablot more to us, I can promise. What about you your highness? This must only be a fraction of your Cidonia's marvelousness."

@Firehearted, Multiple sightings of a griffon flying towards the heart of Abendstern were reported in the area south of the the Griffon Kingdom, with the blockade, and the building of the now 2/3rds of the way done railway, and the canal. Eventually a pair of guards were ordered to intercept him even after he wasn't deemed a threat. They flew up on either side and one spoke up. "Salutations neighbor! Too what pleasure do we owe this surprise visit?" he said making light of the situation which although no one else would understand, seemed rather funny to the young batponies and those who had given the reports.

I am though regret to inform that our weapon stocks are needed at their capacity, but we could spare some of our older models. And i must say, hoof to hoof fighting is not something we practice, mainly firearm and bayonets are the norm.

 Malachi chuckled. "Please, when I was younger I use to fight in underground boxing rings. Bare hoof, no gloves.  And a few years after my father and the other Dons set up Quinacta we made it a sport. I think as long as it doesn't have ill entente, fighting is a good way to let off some steam and settle differences. We have a few fight brake out on the streets sometimes, but it usually ends up with the fighters shearing a drink and a laugh. 

 

So no doubt Flits will be up for it. " He smirked before turning to the king.

Plus, before we came the natives have been in many wars with others trying to take their land. And so fare, we're the only ones that they didn't beat. And a great deal of the natives are in the militia. You can't really judge something by it's size or background."

Adding to this they own their own cities and armies...Think about it, if a noble disagrees with a government and an invasive force offers him money and some of the privileges he wanted, whats stopping him to side with the enemy?"

"How it goes is by the end of the day, they still answer to the Queen and the palace, any order from the palace are considered absolute, notice how he didnt offer to pay you off?  because to most nobles money is not an object, if an invaded force offers to pay off a noble for support, he would probably laugh because he already has everything he wants" he stopped by the mayors office "well heres what im assuming is the regent office if you wanted to ask some officials about Klux's problem"

"To be honest, that's not really something to be proud of.  I mean you guys had a genocide of all they pegasi in your land. So Sunny told me in her letter. Which makes me glad we never been in a war and hopefully never will. And the natives fight in countless ways. With there hooves, with bows, clubs, knives and axes with blades made of stone. traps, poisons, sneak attacks, setting controlled fires where it just burns where their enemy is. Before they changed there way of thinking centuries ago, they were cannibals. 

 

So they were really something to be feared. cause of that we picked up a real shock and aw factor. That's all I'll say about that." He said before take a drink from his glass.

Such outdated techniques are no match for anything modern warfare has to offer. Say, we just finished a war against some western tribesmen which fought similar to what you described, they lost 250,000 ponies to our mere 23 casualties.

"Well, we are a nation of constant expansion and growth, as soon as our population can no longer be sustained by the food we produce on our land, we need to take over. When we take over, we assimilate the local population as well as adding our own. This population will grow and ask for more food, meaning we need more land, its a vicious circle really... And the fact that we have never lost a war doesnt help slow it down. This place, beside the fertile it resides on, is also an ideal location for our trading sphere of influence. I must say, if your queen had not surrendered, the plan wouldve been a total puppetisation. Meaning that although your queen and nobles would still rule as they saw fit... They qould sere under the Ponssian goverment as an autonomous province. To be honest it aint the most peaceful way to secure resources, but it is efficient. And i must say... I myself am impressed how quickly they civiliz... Transformed this place."

@Lordav, @Gloomfury, The Kaiser was very amused at how the discussion had turned. He thought it somewhat odd that other races would resort to biting others. It made sense for bat ponies because they had the teeth for it, but he could understand the requirement to do what is necessary. What honestly perplexed him however was the mention of canablism. Now that has to be just some freak occurence. Even bat ponies hardly ate meat. Mostly because it was so hard to find animals of a decent size that couldn't form a conversation and made you feel like a cold minded killer at the thought of eating them. Plus there were plenty of other things to eat. He nearly snorted a laugh over the part of breaking the arms. He knew that you were absolutley screwed if you hadn't special abilities of any kind. You couldn't be stealthy, or fend for yourself. You couldn't even walk! But he sat there listening respectively for the most part.

 

"Well if that's all said and done, perhaps we could move on to other things unless we're finished here gents." The Kaiser said, speaking up at last.

"Rifles are quite simple really in concept. The hardest part is making barrels strong enough to withstand the explosion within and not blow anything off. once you've got them working, and you set a standard, you can build them by the hundreds. But I haven't heard of this Empire. What of them?" he said.
