The magic in FIM is very powerful compared to other series.

Yeah, IIRC, at one time Luna & Celestia controlled at least 5 of the 6 Elements of Harmony. (Not sure if the 6th was active or not).  Luna  gradually turned into Nightmare Moon & lost control of hers.  Celestia used the Elements to imprison her sister & after that, they turned on her & wouldn't work.  Twilight & her friends had to reactivate them.

 

In short, it might have been more accurate to say The Elements used the Mane 6 as a power source & acted on their own.  At the least, it is like a Green Lantern ring & comes w a lot of restrictions.

 

As to MLP power level.  I don't think any being in their universe is more powerful than David Eddings' characters Belgarath, Polgara, etc. (Ignoring raising the sun & moon) & very few are even that powerful.

 

Oh yeah, I never saw the movies but I read the Narnia books.  Aslan created all the life on a planet (book 6) & created the race of talking mice (book 1) as a reward for trying to help him & regenerated their king's tail + rose from the dead.  I don't think any MLP character has done that.

It's not surprising, when you have an entire universe built around magic, the strongest of the characters in the lore are bound to be capable of feats of the imagination. In other shows, characters often have powers, but much of the universe still mimics ours as far as laws of physics and reality go.

 

But when the average high-level character like Celestia can raise the sun, with little effort, the natural succession of that to pose a threat is a character like Discord who can warp reality at will.

My theory is that ponies are more experienced with magic than humans will ever be.
