Dusk nodded and took the sculptures, and allowed the mare to take the necklace from him.

 

He gave a shrug of his own as he put the ornaments away in his saddlebag.

"Honestly, I'm not too sure. I've only kept it as a decoration myself, though you may find some better use for it."

Satisfied with her first trade, Spellbind picked the necklace up, rotating it to view it at different angles. "Well, let's see what happens now," she said aloud, and wore the necklace on her...

 

Just then, her coat started glowing with the light of crystals.

Dusk blinked and admired the sudden shimmering of the mare's coat.

"Oh wow, seems you've lucked out, eh?"

 

Mentally he kicked himself for giving away such a thing without even knowing its proper worth, or even what it could do. But on the other hoof, shining like a diamond wouldn't really proof beneficial in the stealth department, so he quickly discarded the thought.

"Really? He never once thought to try it on?" Spellbind mouthed to herself, enjoying the new look it had given her coat.

 

"I certainly did, it would appear," she replied to Dusk. "I should come out to trade festivals more often. Like the huge one in Rainbow Falls."

"Ah, I've heard of that one," Dusk nodded, smiling at the glistening unicorn, "supposedly the biggest trade fair in Equestria, if I'm not mistaken."

 

He'd been to a few fairs in Rainbow Falls with his family, which helped fuel his love for valuable-looking items. Often he'd ask if he could trade some of his favourite toys, with his parents chuckling a 'no'. The memory got a smile out of him.

"I doubt you are," replied Spellbind. "Anyway, we've both cleared quite a portion of both our stock, so I'm gonna head to Sugarcube Corner." She turned to the building in all its glory - the appearance of a massive cake with smaller ones on top. "You wanna come with?"

Dusk followed the mare's gaze onto the peculiar building, blinking at its eccentricity. Whoever built it must have been an expert carpenter, or they wanted everypony to be certain of what kind of shop it was.

 

Putting the strangeness behind him, he gave her a nod. "I don't see why I shouldn't."

"Then let's go!" And with that, Spellbind led her new acquaintance Dusk Waltz over to Sugarcube Corner, happy to see his reaction. She then opened the door to the building and went inside, expecting Pinkie Pie to come bounding in with enthusiasm any minute now.

Dusk followed Spellbind into the store, and took a look around. Indeed, this was one of the most cheerfully decorated bakeries he'd ever seen in his life. Whoever decorated certainly had the right idea.

 

"I must say, this is the happiest looking bakery I've ever seen," he said, voicing his thoughts.

Pinkie popped up from behind the counter. "Hey there, friends! What can I do for ya?" she asked chipperly.

 

Spellbind smiled at Pinkie's overabundant enthusiasm. "A triple chocolate cupcake, please?" she said, placing two Bits on the counter.

 

Taking the Bits, Pinkie gave Spellbind a cupcake. "Here you go!"

 

Spellbind bit into the cupcake and savoured its taste. "Mmhmm..."

"Oh!" Dusk perked up, taken by surprise a bit by the sudden pink pony. He supposed, since he was here, he may as well order something. He lowered his head down to the display case beneath the counter, scanning its contents.

 

"Well, let me see...I suppose I'll have a chocolate muffin, myself."

After receiving payment, Pinkie gave Dusk Waltz the requested chocolate cupcake.

 

Spellbind, meanwhile, seemed to be suitably enjoying hers. When she finished, she wiped her hoof across her muzzle, then licked her hoof clean from the remains of thechocolate buttercream and crumbs. Boy had that been a good cupcake.

Dusk curiously sniffed at the cupcake before gingerly biting into it. Spellbind's enthusiasm was certainly not misplaced; this certainly tasted delicious!

"Hm," he hummed, taking larger bites of the small treat until he'd finished it, and wiped his face clean of any debris.

 

This energetic pink pony was quite the baker, he had to admit.

Something then occured to Pinkie. "Okay guys, here's the thing - I think those might have been magic cupcakes I made"

 

Spellbind was very surprised. "You gave us magical cupcakes?! What's gonna happen?! Why would you-"

 

A small fart burst out.

 

"Well... that's kind of a relief..." commented Spellbind, a bit red in the face.

Dusk blinks, respectfully glancing away from the mare.

"Um, well," he mutters, clearing his throat, "that's...at least it was only...that."

 

He felt a small hint of awkwardness in the air...not to mention flatulence.

 

"Um...shall we move on to somewhere else?" He suggested, rather hastily.

Dusk seemed to have abruptly dissappeared, though his body seemed to have... shrunk hyper hyper fast. Spellbind looked around for him, then noticed a speck on the seat he had been sitting on. She leaned closer, then gasped when she saw Dusk shrunk down

Dusk coughed and hacked, trying to wave away the sudden smoke with a hoof.

"What in...huh?!"

 

He glanced around the seat, that seemed to have grown gargantuan around him...along with everything else, including Spellbind!

 

"What in Tartarus just happened to me?!" He gasped. Seems this town wasn't quite dull.

Being sure to speak softer for his tiny ears, Spellbind said, "Well, you kinda had something of a... reverse growth spurt."

 

She looked at Pinkie. "How could you give him something like that?!"

 

Pinkie shrugged and smiled nervously.

 

Spellbind rolled her eyes, then looked back at Dusk. "We'll go to Zecora's hut. She'll know what to do."

 

She held out her hoof. "I promise not to hurt you," she said softly.

Dusk let out a frustrated snort through the nose at his current predicament, and glanced at Spellbind's now enormous hoof before gingerly stepping onto it.

 

"Very well," his tiny voice spoke, with still a natural hint of authority, "and who is this, 'Zecora'?"

"She lives in a hut in the Everfree Forest," replied Spellbind. "She's real good at making potions. And she always speaks in rhyme."

 

"Where can I put you?" she pondered aloud, looking at the tiny life she held in her hoof, being extra-careful with him. "On my head? In my saddlebag?"

Dusk, being a Pegasus of course, used his tiny wings to lift himself up and onto Spellbind's hat.

 

"Right here should do nicely, thank you." He informed her. He may have been small, and a tad vulnerable as a result, but he was still capable of doing things himself.

"Okay, then let's go," said Spellbind, heading out of the door.

 

As they walkd through, just a few ponies noticed the teeny-tiny pony on Spellbind's head and looked intrigued or confused.

 

"I think I should warn you," Spellbind said to Dusk. "The Everfree has quite a few... wild animals. Perhaps you should go into my saddlebag or pocket when we go in there."

Dusk glanced out the corners of his eyes at the curious ponies looking his direction. He could really have done without the unneeded attention right now.

 

"I can handle a few wild animals, even like this," he assured her, though he still tucked himself down into her hat some more.

 

Better safe than sorry, after all.

With her unusually small passenger in tow, Spellbind travelled across the path connecting the two locations, then cautiously stepped into the Everfree Forest.

 

She didn't notice a bird hiding in a tree that seemed to take interest in the morsel on Spellbind's head...

Dusk, with a rather bored face, sat back in Spellbind's hat as the little trip went on. He'd never been into the Everfree Forest, so he wasn't really intimidated by its sheer size from his angle.

 

Even while he was shrunk, he could still sense something was watching them...or more specifically, watching him.

 

"Be careful, I think something might be watching us..."
