Being careful not to send Dusk falling off her head, Spellbind turned her head slowly to look around. "I think we'll be-"

 

Just then, a bird flew towards Dusk, its beak wide open! Spellbind hurriedly grabbed Dusk, put him firmly in her saddlebag, and ran away from the bird.

Dusk let out a small yelp as he was whisked into Spellbind's bag, being jostled and shook by the mare's frantic sprinting. What was it, a crow or a raven?

 

"Oof!" He grunted, bumping against the various enlarged objects in the dark. Perhaps coming to this town wasn't the great business opportunity he thought it'd be.

Now that they were away from creatures that posed a threat to the mini-pony Spellbind was trying to protect, she slowed down as they reached Zecora's hut and stopped at the door. She nervously opened her bag. "Sorry," she said, plucking out her shrunken passenger. "How are you feeling, Dusk? You're not hurt at all, are you?"

Dusk shook himself off as soon as he was out of the bag, his expression not exactly showing contentedness with the situation.

 

"A bit shaken up, but fine other than that, thank you." He grumbled, and looked over to the huge door, "I suppose this is where this 'Zecora' lives?"

"Yup," replied Spellbind. She knocked on the door, and shortly thereafter, it was opened to reveal a zebra. "Hello my dear, Spellbind, is it? And what brings you to visit?"

 

"Well..." Spellbind held up Dusk, and Zecora's huge face lowered towards him. "And what happened here, my dear?" she asked.

 

"This is Dusk. He accidentally got shrunk by an 'experimental cupcake'," explained Spellbind. "I don't suppose you have something like an enlarging potion?"

 

"Yes, I'd say. Right this way," answered Zecora, and led them inside. Spellbind gingerly placed Dusk on the countertop.

 

"You don't seem too familiar," Zecora told Dusk as she started to brew a potion. "What brings you to Ponyville, eh?"

Dusk glanced up at the peculiar zebra as they were let in, gliding onto the table once he had the proper height.

 

"Well, I did arrive for the trades fair," he explained to her, "but as you can see, things got rather...interesting."

 

He tilted his head at the question; was it just him, or did she just break her rhyming pattern?

"Yes, I see. Perfectly," replied Zecora, raising an eyebrow. She rummaged through her ingredients for something to complete the potion, but then came back and looked at Dusk, frowning. "Alright, Dusk here's the issue - we're out of one of the ingredients to give you."

Dusk scowled at the news, since he'd have to be a puny pegasus for a while longer.

 

"Well, that's unfortunate," he sighed, shaking his head slowly, "well, do you know where you can you get some more? This being tiny isn't exactly convenient, especially with predatory animals outside."

caliber was happily reading his book, when he noticed that no-one was coming to his booth. "huh. maybe 'extremely dangerous artifacts that may-or-may-or kill ya' is an intimidating" he looked around. indeed, he saw ponys avoiding his booth like the cutie-pox. "welp," he said, packing up his things, "i guess i'll go visit zecora. who knows? maybe shes got some rumors for more treasures." he gathered up the last bit, and teleported outside her hut. "zecora?" he said as he walked in, "its me, caliber." he stopped when he saw two other ponys there. "oh, am i interrupting something?"

Zecora was just about to reply, when a new pony arrived.

 

"Uh, I think you'd better come back later," Spellbind advised the new arrival.

 

Zecora looked at Dusk. "In the forest, I can find some more. But there's a question we should answer for..."

 

"Quite right," said Spellbind, knowing what Zecora meant. She looked at Dusk. "I can go help Zecora get some more ingredients, or I can stay here and keep you company until she gets back."

Dusk's head jerked right around at the new pony's sudden arrival. The last thing he needed right now was even more ponies getting involved in this mess.

 

Though, he did look familiar. Did he see him at the fair perhaps?

 

"I have no qualms about coming with you," he informed Spellbind, with a sure nod, "better than sitting here and doing nothing, or possibly getting myself hurt in here."

caliber had no idea what was happening here. all he knew was that there were ponys in need. "i'll go with y'all. for protection. the forest is a deadly place. no offence." he said. "but im kinda more experienced in combat than you, probably." he sat down, and started riffling through his adventure log. "now, what happened? was it poison joke flower? or something else?" he found the page he was looking for. the herb section. "and what do y'all need to find?"

"Experimental cupcake," summed up Spellbind simply as she put Dusk on her head again. "But I don't think we'll need combat abilities, thanks. We're just finding a herb called..." She looked over to Zecora.

 

Zecora gave the name of the herb and a description of it.

 

"Then let's go!" said Spellbind as she and Zecora headed to the door. "Wanna help?" Spellbind asked the new pony before she exited.

"uh, yeah!" he got up. "so...its golden leaf." he said, looking at his book. "thats what we're looking for? alright!" he got up. "lets go!" before leaving, he got a look at dusk. "hey...i know you." caliber said. "was it...? ah i cant remember!" he looked back at spellbind. "im caliber, by the way. whats yours?"

Dusk hopped onto Spellbind's hat and nodded at Zecora's description of the herb. It didn't sound that hard too find, he had a good eye for valuable things after all.

 

He glanced down at Caliber, lowering his eyelids in annoyance at the situation. "Dusk Waltz," he reminded him.

You didn't need to be Starswirl to tell that Dusk was getting rather peeved at the situation.

 

"Spellbind," the unicorn mare told the new pony as they left.

 

When they got out, Spellbind lowered her head, being careful that Dusk didn't fall off. She could look closer for the herb, and so could Dusk.

 

"Hey Dusk," she said. "Would you feel okay flying around to look for it?"

Dusk nodded, flapping his small wings and lifting out of Spellbind's hat to hover next to her head.

"Absolutely, I'd feel much better if I lent a bigger hoof in the search," he nodded, lowering nearer to the ground and scanning the surrounding flora, "it shouldn't be too hard to find..."

"Hey guys, I think I found it," said Spellbind at last. She plucked the plant from the ground and held it up for all to see. "So, Zecora, we can add this to the potion and get Dusk back to size, right?"

 

Zecora confirmed this. "Something else we should know? Where did he go?" she questioned.

Dusk glanced up at the larger ponies, noticing Spellbind was holding up a familiar-looking plant. It certainly fit the zebra's description.

The svelte pegasus flew back up to their level and back onto the mare's peculiar hat, wiping a sweat off his brow from the taxing effort, considering the sudden height change.

 

"I believe, we have what we need...?" He panted, glancing down at his ride, "keen eye you have there."

"We do," replied Spellbind. "So let's go in and get you big again." Once again taking care of her small client, she followed Zecora back into the hut.

 

Spellbind placed Dusk on the ground with ample space Zecora tossed some of the plant into the mix. After some more stirring with the stick, she placed a spoon into the brew. She poured it on top of him, and he started to get bigger until he was normal again.

Dusk stiffened his muscles while being splashed by the liquid, coughing and spluttering as he slowly grew back to normal size.

 

Once realising he was back to normal, he looked at his messy coat with distaste before offering the zebra a grateful bow of the head.

"Thank you for your help," He forced a smile, "though, I don't think I'll be trying the local confectioneries anytime soon." He chuckled.

Zecora gave Dusk a towel to dry himself off with. "Here for the fair, you say?" she said. "Does anything here catch your interest today?"

 

She opened a box to reveal animal parts like fangs and claws. "I've been keeping these stored here. They're from when vicious monsters appeared."

 

Zecora then went into a cupboard. There was some clanging before she held up some bottles. Transparent, though a bit hazy. They were peculiarly shaped and had markings.

"oooh...is that the beak of a cockatrice?" caliber asked as he walked up to the box and started poking around it. "ill give ya a manticore horn! oh, and is that a vial of hydra poison? ill give ya an phoenix feather!" caliber didnt know zecora had all these things, and quite frankly, he was excited.

Dusk happily took the towel and wiped the gunk off his coat and mane, raising an eyebrow as Caliber, rather enthusiastically, began poking through the box.

 

His eyes followed the zebra to the cupboard, wit hthe peculiar bottles. Since the fangs and claws were occupied, he took the next option.

"And what is in those bottles?"

"Then it's sealed. We have a deal," said Zecora with a smile, giving Calibre the requested items in exchnage for what he had offered her.

 

As for Dusk, she answered his question. "Some are ingredients, others potions completed. I offer these because my stock is not depleted."
