I got wind of this at last years Bronycon. Turns out there's a few people attempting to make their own equine themed animated TV series, while MLP inspired, is something that will stand completely on it's own. And boy are they aiming high.

From the Kickstarter page.

It is a time of turmoil on Terra Steed. The Goddess Mare, Daybreak, is a wise and gentle force for good in the world that she has created. Everything changes when she comes up against a force that all of her power cannot control: a teenager.

Daybreak’s adopted daughter, Nightfall, has never fully adjusted to the loss of her parents. Although she tries to fit in, she feels conflicted and awkward; an easy target for bullies. In an attempt to help, the goddess creates a dream world where Nightfall can practice being confident and explore her potential.

As mother and daughter clash, so do the worlds they control. Caught in the middle are the inhabitants of each. The result of this chaos causes every mare to develop unique alter egos, which struggle for dominance. The resultant zany adventures take them through both night and day.

Every Mare seems to benefit from the alternate reality, until the unthinkable happens.

Although I have to admit, the show has an interesting premise, and it's be nice to see this type of medium be used to convey more mature subject matters. The animation looks very good. The voice acting is decent. All it needs is time to grow (and funding).

So what do you all think of this idea?

Is there a chance this can go somewhere? Could this be something that continues on when FiM ends?

Lol you must've missed that the funding for the project had already failed. To be perfectly honest I doubt that this would've been any good, the character designs are iffy, the voice acting is terrible, and the story has little promise. Being well animated doesn`t mean the whole product itself will be good.

"Funding Unsuccessful 3 days ago" It won't go anywhere.

And even then, their plan for it was really stupid. They were asking for $25,000 (which already opens them to a C&D by Hasbro) to make a slightly better trailer of their fan animation to pitch it to large TV networks (like Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, Discovery Family, etc) to get funding and staff for a regular series. Not only would networks not care about this fan stuff, I doubt any of them would like to become ripe for multimillionaire lawsuits by Hasbro, and there's no chance Discovery Family would pick it up, unless it became 100% owned by Discovery and retained the rights to the MLP IP (and wanted to give Hasbro the middle finger).

Umm, other than having equinoid characters, how is this considered an MLP fanwork? It doesn't have any of the characters or parts of the setting from the show, so I don't see how Hasbro would have any involvement in this. Also, it's more than likely that this was going to be a web series.

The ponies/horses are drawn in the same style as MLP FiM, and the concept is also identical to that show, which Hasbro can trademark or patent under a business or creative idea.

That makes no sense whatsoever. How can a company own a specific art style for a show or any creative media? That would be like if Toei sued Square because the artwork for Chrono Trigger looks too much like the style for Dragonball.
