0905 Hours

Saddle Arabian Desert

A MRAP traveling through the desert, the pony in the driver seat is Spectre, next to him in the passenger seat is Jester.

Jester looks to the newbie in the back "Well since this is your first day on the job, let's introduce ourselves. I'm Jester and that is the big bad boss stallion." He said pointing at Spectre.

Spectre looks at Jester and says "You can call me Spectre..." He put his eyes back on the rode. "I read you're file, you're clearly new to the business because not much of it was covered in black ink." He said

Jester smiled under his mask and said "Don't worry, your file will look like ours in no time." He then noticed her rifle "Hey Spec, She is a sniper like you were!"

Spectre looked into the back "an Accuracy International AWM? I prefer the Beretta 50 Caliber" He said before looking forward again.

"I had a name... forgot it many, centuries ago. It faded away like many things, but me. I'm still here, still here trying to find something. What is that something? I don't know, I forgot." -The Nameless Knight

Spectre looked into the back "an Accuracy International AWM? I prefer the Beretta 50 Caliber" He said before looking forward again.

"The .50 Caliber Sniper rifle is heavy and impractical for my uses. It's heavy recoil combined with the heavy weight, expensive ammo and large size is not right for a scout sniper rifle. This one is a bit big for myself but it still does the job. Not to seem like I'm being rude or anything Sir. *Nervous Laugh* It's just my personal opinion. I don't mean to offend your history. Sorry."

Violet Moon went back to being silent and looked out the window. If this was the Griffin military, she would have been scolded heavily for speaking to a superior officer like she did. She hoped this military did was not as harsh as the Griffins.

"Don't worry about it, you didn't offend me..." Spectre said.

Jester looked forward "Spec is not easily offended... " He said

Spectre continued to keep his eyes on the road/sand and asked " Who taught you how to fire a rifle? Do you have formal training like me or were you trained by somepony outside the ranks of the military like Jester?"

Jester looked out his window and quietly said "Sand, sand, rock, sand, sand and oh my gosh... sand"

"Umm... I was formally trained by the Griffin military, but my Father owns a gun range. I use to practice my shooting the rifles when I was younger. Oh, but I haven't introduced myself formal. I've been told to use code names so, my name is Poltergeist. Honour to serve under such renowned soldiers." She salutes the two officers in the vehicle with her, but she does the salute for the Griffin military, not knowing the one Equestrian military uses.

"I wouldn't say renowned..." Spectre said

Jester looked at Spectre "Don't go being humble on me now  Spec." He said

Spectre looked at Jester and sighed and looked back to the road. He saw the ruins of a house.  "Just so you know, Poltergeist. We don't see much action, last time we saw anything was when a bunch of Fouls decided to start throwing stones at the truck."

"Well, with the reports we've been getting from the area recently it wouldn't surprise me if we did encounter something or someone that is out for blood. Our blood To speak more specifically. Spectre? I read your file, I have to say you have quite the impressive service record and you've been on some high level operations over the years. But, I got thinking, do you perhaps have anything that perhaps goes beyond Classification levels of Black Ink? You seem the type that would. That is if they do such a thing in this military."

"what do you mean?" Spectre asked

Jester looked at her "How did you get Spectre's file, I'm a petty officer and they wouldn't let me see it"

"Jester, they wouldn't trust you with a shopping list..." Spectre said, looking at Jester.

Jester rolled his eyes and looked out his window.

"I guess it seems that they don't do it in this place. This is a lot different than back home. What I mean by beyond the Black ink, is information that is either so shameful or so sensitive and dangerous, that is never put in your file as an action that you committed. Essentially meaning that it never happened to the eyes of the world. Their are ways to get around black ink. But you can't remove a veil that doesn't exist. Just like operation Chi... Sorry, I've said far too much. I really need to learn to keep my mouth shut."

Poltergeist lowered her head and started mumbling the most importing things she remembers from training. "I should speak only when spoken to, shorter is better, obey the hierarchy. Protect the homeland. Loose words cost lives. Insubordination will be punished." She said these things a few times over I'm a very quiet voice. Before she eventually calmed herself.

"Sorry for speaking out of line Sir. My actions where uncalled for. I accept any punishment and full for responsibility for my actions."

Spectre stopped the truck and looked at her "I am not going to punish you, if I punished ponies for speaking without being spoken to, Jester wouldn't be here..." He said " So calm down... and yes there are somethings that are not on my file..." He continued. "Like Operation: Desert Sands..." His voice was quieter and he started driving again.

Jester looked forward and his voice was quiet and not as happy "Simple..."

Poltergeist let a sigh of relief out, and started to speak in a more cheerful. "Desert Sands? Never heard of that one. It's seems we've both done things our Governments do not want made public. *chuckle* Now is not the time nor place to be discussing things like this. We still have a whole day of Patrolling ahead of us. Of all the assignments I could have been stuck with, they give me the most boring one. Honestly, I'd be more suited to being out in the hills. Camping, scouting, preforming recon in places where necessary collateral damage is unavoidable. That's my environment. Not being stuffed into a Car and just watch the scenery looking for any sign of suspicious activity. *sigh*, well orders are orders, and you never disobey the chain of command."

She moved closer towards the back windows on the passenger side to get a better look around the area. "Jester? Where you about to say something then? I though I heard you say Simple."

Jester looked up "Oh.. uhh it is nothin'"

Spectre sighed "Simple was an old squad mate... He was a sniper like you. He was a member of ESFU Team 6 along with me and Jester, and our explosive expert, Killjoy... Simple and Killjoy were killed during Operation: Desert Sands. It was a slaughter... ESFU Team 5 and 3 were all killed and Captain Brush, the pony who assigned you to us, was the only survivor of ESFU Team 4. The Only reason me and Jester survived was because Team 2 and Team 7 showed up..." He said.

Jester looked at him surprised "Wow, never thought you would talk about Desert Sands to anypony!"

Spectre looked at him "She is a new member of the team, we shouldn't keep secrets from her."

Poltergeist was quiet for a while. To think these two have been through Hell together and only survived at the cost of the lives of others, and how well this was covered up. "I see. Must have been hard for you to tall about that. It's seems like that must have brought up some bad memories. Sorry I made you think of something like that. Makes my two of my three Operations look small. Even though all of my work during these last 4 months has been classified at the highest level. Missions like Desert Sands and Child's Light don't leave you. They follow You forever."

Poltergeist's eyes went blank as she slipped into memory.

"Operation Child's Light: 0200 hours, 3 months, 2 weeks, 3 days ago. Mission objective. Eliminate Rebel organisation that had been causing problems for the past month. Commanders words: 'These Rebels have opposed the hierarchy with violence. Respond with heavier violence. Extermination mission.' Total hostile count 347 Rebels. Age range 6-12 years old. Not even old enough to being formal military training. No match for even a novice trained soldier. 0100 hours. We make bets on who gets the most kills, reward was 300 bits and a custom built Pistol. 0200. We enter Rebel base located in the mountains. And begin to exterminate the Rebels. No problems, no casualties, no wounded, no survivors. Total Operation time 23 minutes 17 seconds. Total Squad body count 347 confirmed kills. Personal body count 119 confirmed kills. I won the bet." Poltergeist snaps back to reality, but does not move from her position.

Spectre moves the rear view mirror to see Poltergeist "You alright back there?" He asked

Jester looked into the back "You doing okay? Looks like you saw a ghost... or a poltergeist! or even a Specter."

Spectre looked at Jester and said "this is not the time for puns..." He then slowed the vehicle so he could look into the back seat. "You alright?"

Upon hearing the voices of the other ponies, she instantly snapped back to herself. "Oh, I'm fine. Just thinking about the past. That is all. No need to be concerned." She turned to Jester who had just made a, admittedly, a joke, so bad it was almost funny. "Do you know why they call me Poltergeist? Jester?"

Jester froze and thought "... no"

Specter sped the vehicle up again and said "I read it in your file, you have the ability of invisibility. It is rare to see somepony still learning advanced magic. Now-a-days, Technology has taken over so many ponies' lives that magic is kind of a lost art."

"Arts of magic have been lost as ponies go to technology to make their lives easier for them. But magic is such an effective tool. Much more so than technology ever will be. But it can also be more destructive than any weapon. Thousands of years ago, their existed ponies with such magical power, that they could reshape the world as they see fit. Peacefully with their strong will or aggressively with overpowering displays of destruction. Ponies like that, good or evil all shared one common trait. Alicorn. Now-a-days, the Alicorn monarchy is just for show, technology makes any old fool capable of kill a supposed god like being. Is sad when you think about it. How low the reputation of Magic has sunk. Most unicorns I know don't even know simple telekinesis, and their is only one school in the homeland Griffonia that teaches magic of this caliber. Expensive to pay for the entry exams and extremely tough to pass. This has me thinking, I wonder if any of those Alicorns from the old stories developed was to stop the aging process and live forever? I wonder if any are alive right now. Bah... no chance. Wishful thinking. I do wish I could meet a person who is strong in magic and knows how to control it. That would be a dream come true. But a dream is a dream. Best to live in reality. Longing for a fantasy that will never happen will have negative effects on your health. Don't want anyone getting depressed, do we? And yes, that is why I'm called Poltergeist. I turn invisible and manipulate objects from either afar with Telekinesis or with my hooves. And since magic is so rare, no one uses those old magic signal detectors anymore, so I'm free to cast all I want."

Spectre looked out his side window for anything and said "I wouldn't speak so quickly, From having met the Princess myself, they are still powerful, very powerful. They..."

"Ruins! yes, finally, my legs were getting tired..." Jester interrupted.

Specter stopped the MRAP in front of what looked like the ruins of a house, it seemed to be burned but it was still mostly intact, meaning they could not see into it form outside "Alright, step out..." He said before opening the door and stepping out of the vehicle.

Jester opened his and jumped out "woo!"

Spectre pulled his firearm out of his backpack and Jester pulled his LMG out of the truck. He went around the truck where Spectre was.

"isn't it strange that there is just a singular house in the middle of the desert?" Jester asked

"I'm sure their are more ruins under the sand, this place is cruel and unkind and any structure that can't survive it would be buried under the sand." Spectre replied.

Poltergeist got out of the MRAP, and joined up with the others on the other side of the vehicle. Her gut told her this place may be bad news, so she half cast her invisibility spell. She was still visible, but only at close range. "I don't think we will find anything in this place, but keep your guard up." She silently made her way onto the roof of the building and took up a crouching position while aiming with her rifle. "I'll keep an eye on things from up here. If anyone approaches, I'll inform both of you."

"Alright" Spectre said, "Lets go Jester."

Jester nodded and they both got into a breaching position, Jester slowly opened the door and Spectre threw in a flashback. After it went on they both went in.

The housed seemed empty, except for a few pieces of burned furniture, there was a rug in which Spectre and Jester moved, They moved everything and found nothing.

Spectre managed to pry up a board and found sand. They left and Spectre looked up at Poltergiest "All clear, back in the truck everypony."

Jester frowned "Awww I have been wanting to be in a firefight all week. " He said, disappointed.

"Area is totally barren. No signs of anything. No buildings, no desert plants, no creatures, no tracks, no nothing. That bit worries me the most." She deactivated her invisibility spell and returned to the MRAP with the other two. When she sat down, she took her boots off and bits of sand started pouring out. "I was outside for 5 minutes, I was sat motionless on a roof top for most of that. And I still manage to get sand in my boots. Gahr, I hate sand."

Spectre started the engine and said "You will get used to it, Me and Jester have fought in many environments from the jungle to the swamps, but we have fought in the desert the most."

Jester looked at Poltergeist and said "Just beware of Scorpions... and Snakes... and poisonous lizards."

"Yeah. Goddesses be with you if you get poisoned by one of those things. Worst comes to pass, you have to preform a field amputation. A limb is a small price to pay for life though." She decided to leave her boots off for the time being while travelling with the others across the dessert. "So Jester. I never did get to see your file. I don't know anything about your active record on what was formally written down. All I know is that Specter and yourself have been together for a long time. So why don't you tell me about yourself Jester? I do wish to know a bit about the officers I'm serving under."

Jester smiled. "Well I was born in Appleloosa, I just worked as a farmer workin' in the orchards, back then. My pa taught me how to shoot, mostly his rifle and six shooter. When I was 18 I joined the military. I had entered the the Navy, that is how I met Spec here. We were bunk mates, lets just say back then we didn't get along. I guess pairing a country colt like me with a city foul like Spec you are destined to have some fightin'. After a couple years, the Admiral came to us and talked to us about something called BUDS trainin', we decided to do it. Worst decision of our lives to tell you the truth."

"Probably not the worst, I enjoy the increased pay..." Spectre comment

Jester continued "Well we went on and did the buds trainin'... out of the 600 that joined, 12 graduated to official ESFU Recruits. After that we were assigned to ESFU Team 3 under the Command of Volcanic. Another one of our Squad mates was Bulldog. Bulldog was not the nicest fellow, They called him Bulldog for a reason..."

"You two have such interesting stories. Going to all these military groups, all the high level operations you've went on during your time. Must have been a hassle to be so respected at times." Poltergeist sat back quietly in the back of the Vehicle. She now had an idea of the two ponies she is serving under. Trouble seemed to be attracted to them so a firefight or two in the near future was almost certain. She had to keep her guard up a bit more from now on. But for now, it was just a boring patrol. No events that need reporting to command and no sign of anything. She pulled a small pouch out of one of her pockets and started to eat some of the food she had brought with her. It's gonna be a long day.

"Allot of the things we do are classified so very few actual ponies know of the operations we go on." Jester said. The only reason we can tell you this now is because you are a squad mate now." He finished.

Spectre started to pay attention to driving instead of the conversation.
