I do think the human morality tends to balance itself on a macro level in society. Things like killing and stealing are decided as evil because a society that celebrates these wouldn't exist (it'd either eat itself up or people would cease tolerating it). So values that help us biologically as a species like treating our wounded, or providing charity, for instance, are viewed as good, because of the positive image they leave on people.
