technical issue Why aren't my .gif avatars ever animated?

I've tried on a few occasions to have a gif as an avatar, but it never animates. It just stays at the initial frame.

It has to have the dimensions of 150 x 150 and be under 150 kb in size.

 

I use these two sites for both things:

They're both fairly straightforward but I can go into a bigger explanation if necessary. It's also recommended that you post the gif you're trying to use here so I can do it myself if you don't want to go through the trouble.
