Time Shield

At the phantom cat's dive, Wilhelm ducked and twisted to the side, extending his sword to the side in an attempt to hit it as it went by. As he straightened, he nocked a leaf-bladed metal arrow to his bow and fired at the cat closest to him, then spread his wings and prepared to take off into the air. Considering the battlefield, he inwardly winced; not many of his companions seemed to be experienced in combat, though Hidden Antler was a possible exception.

(Okay, so what do I have to roll?)

The sword is positioned perfectly to intersect the approaching phantom cat, but just before it strikes, it becomes intangible like the rest, passing through it and landing unhurt on the forest ground.  Time Shield notices this and frowns, saying, "This is hardly fair... Any ideas?"

Alex, in the meantime, watches the cats carefully from her position in the air; something about the way they're acting is familiar somehow, but she can't quite place it...

Hidden Antler steps back, putting some more distance between himself and the cats, as he tries to figure out what to do. He doesn't have any arrows that can affect Intangible creatures, so he can't hurt them, of course, they can't hurt him either. He knocks his bow and prepares to shoot the first cat to become tangible. As he waits for one to do so, he calls over his shoulder to Time Shield.

"Hey Unicorn, do you have any spells that can turn us ghostlike so we can hit these cats?"

"Honestly, I know barely any spells," Time Shield replied, not taking his eyes off the cats.  "I'm not really studied well in magic.  Levitation is pretty much it."

Beraha returns to a defensive stance.  In the meantime, Alex VanGamer continues to study the cats from her position above them, and suddenly realizes something: while she had never directly encountered phantom cats before, she played a video game once that had a phantom cat enemy in it.  Wondering how accurate the makers of the game made them, she starts counting to herself, watching one of the cats closely.

At this moment, the first cat to go incorporeal--the one that Hidden Antler had fired an arrow into--abruptly appears to become solid again, and takes a swipe at Hidden with its claws.

((Rolled a hit.  Hidden will need to roll versus his Dodge to avoid it.))

Hidden Antler jerkes backwards pulling out of reach of the cats claws. He backpedals quickly getting out of reach. Knowing his arrows won't work, he stashes his bow around his neck and thinks. Coming to a descision, he circles around the fight to get behind the cat facing Wilhelm. He waits for it to become solid before attacking it from behind, hoping to hit it before it goes ghost again.

(Not quite certain, does that count as god moding?)

((Nah, that's fine.  You didn't dictate anything major.))

The cat that missed Hidden stayed low to the ground, moving slowly as if preparing itself to pounce again, though it doesn't quite yet.  The other incorporeal cats moved together, watching the others.  One of them looked up at Alex as if trying to determine if it can jump high enough to reach her or not.

In the next moment, the one that had attacked Beraha abruptly turned solid again, and it took a swipe at him with its claws.  Beraha was struck in the foreleg and lost his concentration, his levitation spell failing and his staff falling to the forest ground.

Alex, on the other hand, had been watching the cat closely, and upon seeing this she calls out, "Ten seconds, everypony!  It's exactly ten seconds!"

Aurora was waiting for that. She grins. "I may not be strong but you look tense."

She is airborne. "I got 10 seconds as well."

Aurora circles the battle looking for that one from before. She hopes to befriend the beast.

She also keeps to the low trees. Her wings not strong enough to allow her high flight.

Time Shield nods in Alex's direction, and then looks back at the cat in front of him.  He silently counts down to himself before casting another levitation spell.  It catches the cat precisely as it becomes solid again, and it looks confused as it is abruptly levitated into the air.

(Up next is Wilhelm.)

Wilhelm nodded in recognition, and then waited until his own personal count of ten, nocking an arrow to his bow. He had previously picked a target, but when Time levitated his cat, Wilhelm abruptly shifted focus and, taking a moment to sight down the metal prongs on the side before launching an arrow at the midair cat. Just in case it missed, his hoof drew back to hover over his quiver, searching for the fletching of another arrow.

((Rolled a 10.))

Being unable to dodge where it was being held, the cat was struck directly by Wilhelm's arrow.  In a burst of light, the cat almost completely dissipated, except for its glowing eyes.  The eyes hovered for a moment before they flew quickly off into the woods.  Those ponies who were familiar with Phantom Cats knew that this was as close to killing it as one could get; it would reform at some point in the future, most likely far from here.

Time Shield was grateful that he didn't have to keep the levitation spell going.  His recent lack of sleep had left him fatigued, and even the light spellcasting he was doing wasn't making things any easier.  Unable to stay on his hooves, he sat down, trying to catch his breath.

((*EDIT*  Hold on a minute with this last post.  I just realized Wilhelm may have rolled damage incorrectly, so I need to find this out first in case I need to change what happens (i.e., the cat doesn't receive enough damage to be 'killed').  If it's all good, then we'll continue where we left off.))  ((Nevermind, it's all good.))

Now that the timing is down, Beraha waits for a moment and takes a swing at the cat on him at the appropriate time.  He strikes it just as it appears, causing it to tumble across the clearing.  The other cats are beginning to look shocked at this turn of events.
