Not sure, the act of eating popcorn while someone is trying to do well....something is a thing I did before I even saw that gif (although I wasn't actually eating popcorn), it's just a general sign of disrespect.

Not really. That joke has been used for years. It's usually referred to as Pass The Popcorn, and it's a trope of its own. the 3D glasses might be referencing the GIF, though.

Or they could be two different  references, the popcorn referencing to the common trope, and the 3D glasses referencing to Doctor Who. Tenth wore them, after all.

It looks like the eating popcorn trope is actually pretty common; I don't know about the 3D glasses though.

The whole 'grab some popcorn' trope has been around for a while I think . Basically saying 'get ready for a show of some sort' so I doubt that it is a direct reference to anything in particular.
