We are starting to get into a position that allows us to rapidly change the banners (thanks all you banner artists). We can provide more variety this way. Indeed, as Jeric said, not only would the artists need to make a background to complement the banner... they'll need to make two, as the background changes depending on time of day. However, I do get the appeal of having a Daring Do-related banner and then have the background be a jungle or something of the sort. And yes, thinking about ancient times actually brought to mind that really cool Daring Do banner. Personal backgrounds would be nice, but at the same time I feel like the background on the site is very pretty already.
