'That's the second time he's said something along those lines,' thought Ali.

 

"I've learned to protect myself, over the years." replied Al. "You'd be surprised what happens to a lone fillie wandering the roads, especially a younger one."

"Well... to be honest, I don't think you deserve to be alone" he said with a sheepish grin.

Ali stopped in her tracks, quizzically looking at Strong.

 

"Are you flirting with me?" She asked.

Strongs eyes widened and he blushed, looking away he stuttered, "N-no... not really... I-I was just being honest..."

Ali smiled slightly, replying with "Well then, Mr. Honesty, would you mind leading the way?"

 

'He looks so cute when he blushes....' Ali absentmindedly thought. Almost immediately, she shook the thought out of her head, replacing it with 'Hold on, i'm not going to fall for him so soon am I? It hasn't even been 5 days since we met! Keep yourself together Ali.'

Strong gave a sheepish grin and nodded, taking the lead, 'Come on Strong, keep it together.' he thought to himself. It was beginning to get late now, and just ahead Strong saw an inn. "We should bed down for the night. What do you think?"

Looking at the receding sun, and at the inn ahead, Ali replied with "I think I agree with you."

 

They headed for the Inn, with Ali already eagerly awaiting the first sleep in a real bed, with real sheets, and a real pillow in days.

They entered the inn, luckily there was a room available with two twin beds, Strong paid for the room and they headed off. Once there, they saw the room had a bathroom, a small dining area/kitchen, and two small twin beds that would fit a pony Ali's size. Strong didn't care, he went and laid on one of the beds, his legs hung off rather comically.

Stifling a laugh, Ali took a chair from the kitchen area and put it under Strong's legs, then covered them with the extra blanked from her bed.

 

"Can't have you going and catching a cold, now can we?" she said, setting her satchel bags next to her bed.

Strong chuckled, "Awe ain't that sweet? Glad to know you're watching out for me" he said with a smile.

Rolling her eyes, she laid down, her back to Strong, calling out "Whatever."

 

She smiled as she closed her eyes, knowing that she'd be having good dreams that night.

Strong chuckled and laid down, quickly falling asleep, a smile on his face. The next morning came and Strong woke early. He got up quietly and walked to the table where he set a few apples there for the two to eat for breakfast. He looked at himself an saw he was a mess, he went into the bathroom and stepped into the shower to clean himself.

Ali woke to the sound of running water that morning. Looking over, she saw Strong had woken, and knew where he was. Stretching, Ali went into the kitchen, sat down, and ate an apple while she wait for her turn to bathe.

 

'I really hope Strong doesn't sing in the shower, or if he does, I hope he can actually sing well.' She thought.

Strong soon stepped out of the bathroom, dry and clean, a towel hung over his shoulder. He smiled and said "Now that was refreshing"

Looking up from her apple, Ali joked "Good, my turn now. I hope you saved some hot water for me?"

 

She got up to go into the bathroom, playfully saying "I'll try not to keep you waiting." She then laughed and closed the door, stepped into the shower, and turned the water on.

"You tease" he called after she closed the door. He grabbed one of the apples and ate it.

 

'I swear if she comes out with a wet mane look I'm gonna lose it' he thought with a chuckle.

After finishing her shower, Ali dried off and walked out of the bathroom, leaving the towel neatly folded on the sink's counter.

 

"Anything else you can think of that we'll need to do before heading off?" Ali asked Strong, heading for her bags.

Strong shrugged. "Nothing I can think of." he gathered his bags and they walked to the door. Strong opened it for Ali saying "Mares first" with a smile.

"Well aren't you the gentlecolt? Never would've guessed it!" Giggled Ali, as she walked out the door and onto the road.

Strong chuckled, "Well a pony won't go anywhere being an asshole" he replied.

'She has a really cute laugh' he thought with a smile.

The two left the town and traveled down a quiet road. As they walked, they passed by a billboard that showed a couple holding one another, the mare was wearing a diamond necklace and was smiling up at the stallion with loving eyes. On the bottom it read 'There is a special somepony for everyone, find yours with the help of Shining Stars Jewlery outlet'. Strong looked at the picture if the couple, a sigh escaped him, an almost somber sounding sigh.

Overhearing the sigh, Ali turned back at Strong, then looked at the billboard.

 

"You okay Strong?"

Strong looked at Ali, and shrugged. Looking at the ground in front of him he said, "I'll be ok. It's just... I know it's just a picture and all, but I can't help but envy the two on there." he looked at the words and chuckled dryly, "Whoever wrote that must've been mistaken"

"I'll agree with you on that. If you need a big old diamond necklace to find your special somepony, then they're not your special somepony. Come on, let's keep going."

 

'I shouldn't press the matter,' Ali thought. 'I wouldn't want to bring up anything that's not ready to come out on it's own. Ohh, but the suspense will kill me!'

Strong chuckled dryly again "Not what I meant. But yeah that too" he said. He got up and walked. His ears and tail drooping slightly.

"Hey, quit with the drooping and moping, you're making me feel like I did something wrong!" Ali exclaimed, trotting up beside Strong.

 

"Wait, DID I do something wrong?"
