ManaMinori 4,145 September 13, 2015 Share September 13, 2015 I love really spicy foods, and instantly fell in love with Taco Bell's "Diablo" hot sauce (sadly, now discontinued), and Ghost pepper sauce (on one of their 3 their Darevevil burritos, only for a limited time). Does anyone have any idea on the ingreduents in these two hot sauces, or ingredients that can as closely replicate both the flavor and spiciness level, as possible? If you have spicy salsa recipes of your own, outside of th sauces I'm looking for, then feel free to post them, too. (I can tolerate a good amount of spicy, so I'm looking for tasty, but still spicy enough to make me sweat a little, and deliver a bit of singe and numbness to the tongue and throat, but not spicy enough to where the spiciness overpowers flavor, and is unbearable , like raw ghost pepper, instant death spicy) 2 Under the Jellicle Moon- a site with cuteness, cat boys, and comic strips / Star Dreams Fanclub
1111 1,284 September 13, 2015 Share September 13, 2015 (edited) I don't know any recipes but I would say don't mess with handling peppers around as hot and hotter then ghost peppers cooking is enough to burn you're eyes. Maybe find pre-made hot sauce that you can change the flavor of and what not by adding stuff, or buy flavors you think you would like. I know that would be pretty stupid to do, if I could even find one, locally. But thanks for the warning. I admire your good intention. I really don't want to just blindly buy hot sauces and waste money sampling them, disliking their heat factor/ or finding their taste too distant from what I'm looking for, and more money blind buying random chilis and spices, to alter the blind sauce's flavor. SCS 7,537 September 20, 2015 Share September 20, 2015 I'm honestly surprised to hear that there's a mainstream ghost pepper sauce. Ghost peppers are extremely dangerous and they aren't even close to the spiciest around these days. I hope they dilute them at some point when making the sauce. I don't know the details about anything less hot than a ghost pepper, but I know that you're not supposed to handle ghost peppers without thick safety gloves and eye protection at minimum. Why the hell people even eat that shit is beyond me. Don't get me wrong, I love spicy food. I've had jalapenos many times. But when you start getting into ghost pepper territory it's just fucking crazy.

I've only read about how hot ghost peppers are, but I think any plavce that serves food would be prohibited from serving it full force, because stupid people deciding to try it, and then lawsuits 1 Under the Jellicle Moon- a site with cuteness, cat boys, and comic strips / Star Dreams Fanclub
colt .45 259 September 25, 2015 Share September 25, 2015 I love really spicy foods, and instantly fell in love with Taco Bell's "Diablo" hot sauce (sadly, now discontinued), and Ghost pepper sauce (on one of their 3 their Darevevil burritos, only for a limited time). The diablo sauce is made from habanero peppers. In my opinion, habanero is the hottest pepper I can enjoy without it just being ridiculous. Even then, when cooking with fresh habanero peppers, I find one pepper will go a long way. One pepper chopped up fine is more than enough for a big pot of chili. You can try adding like half of one ( chopped fine) to a jar of off the shelf salsa, and it will kick it up nicely. Add more or less to taste. Tobasco brand hot sauces make a habanero based sauce that is pretty close to what they put in the "diablo" packets. They sell it in the grocery store, and it might be easier to find than fresh peppers. My personal favorite is datil pepper. I grow these, they are not as widely available as habanero. I find that datil peppers have almost the same "heat" as a habanero, but a nicer sweet/smokey taste. If you search online, you should be able to find datil pepper vendors, or products made with datil peppers. Or try these guys http://extremefood.com/explore/mid/home I would recommend the four pack of sauces to start with. I am also a huge fan of their chips. It looks like they have a recipe page on the site as well.
Splashee 28,566 February 28, 2020 Share February 28, 2020 Being able to make any of these sauces yourself is probably impossible because of the crazy toothpaste-like ingredients. I would like to know a basic moderately strong tomato sauce that would taste like just chili and tomato.
