Thank you for the scanner advice.  I was hoping there would be a solution that didnt involve me inking over my drawings   I seem to mess the inking process up alot.   Ill just take pictures of what i have already done so i dont have to go back over my 45? drawings. (they suck)

and i am familiar with the graphic hardness of the pencils but i would not say im good with using it, I normally use HB because its easy to get to but i prefer doing the outline in 2H because it is easer to erase and the graphite doesnt dull nearly as fast.  I use 2B(i think) for some darker fill which is manily the pupul of the eye.

Here is the most recent one i have that i did ink over.  Its not very good but i like what i did with the hair/mane

@,

No worries. I'm always glad to help if I can. :)

Ah ok. Yeah, I generally use 5H for my outlines, prior to working on the final line art. I use a set that goes from 8B to 2H, and I have the 5H one I bought separately.

Looks good. :squee:  You've got the idea, though you might be able to benefit from a strategy I was taught. If you break a character down into basic shapes, the proportions come out looking more natural. When I draw, I start with simple ovals and circles. I find it helps to lay out the pose, and the proportions, so they look more accurate to what I want it to look like.

@,

Looking great man! I see a pretty good understanding of the body shape coming out in these. The middle one seems to be the best over all in my personal opinion. One point of focus I might suggest is have a look to compare the way your head and neck are shaping to fit the body. That's about the only spot that looks off to me. Usually you'll notice the back of the head on ponies kind of conforms to the shape of the neck, there's less definition between the skull and neck in the back compared to human form. That aside, you seem to be getting the hang of it. With practice, it'll get faster and easier. :squee:

On that note, I have some more work to drop in here. ;)

@,

lol wow dude. You're a trooper for sure. I've had my share of long goes without sleep, but not in a while. Seems like you and I are in the same time zone though, it's about the same for me.

Always a pleasure though, I'm glad to see someone persuing their creativity, and if I can lend a hand in that, I'm more than happy. :)

Hello, how are you.

I took your advice to mind(and some other peoples from google+)

What do you think of it, and can you please tell me what i need to fix.

.... I know that i messed the belly up, so besides that

....  Also, what do you think of the way i did my hair and how could i improve on that concept?

Edit: Im adding 2 more pictures to this.

I know that for one of the pictures the face is flat, My bad, It looked better before i tried inking it.(Not trying to make up an excuse)  Also, what is your opinion on the mane and tail for these 2, mainly the tail.post-23903-0-07163200-1449562238_thumb.jpgpost-23903-0-98584100-1449562253_thumb.jpg

@,

Not too shabby :)

So in terms of over all design, I'd say your first of the two here is the best, so I'll focus mainly on that. Where you seem to be having trouble is in the shape and form in the neck and torso area. the legs and faces seem alright, and also the mane style is looking good too for now. Where I'd focus is in the positioning and shape of the torso, in tandem with the neck. Keep in mind what I mentioned before about the neck and head connecting fairly seamlessly at the back. Here's a reference, note the blue areas.
sig-4258439.10pd180.jpg

So the torso kind of goes on an angle, with the flank slightly higher than the chest, and the neck usually kind of has a bit of a backwards lean to it, but that can also change depending on the pose you choose.

The only other bit of advice I can give for the mane would be, just don't be afraid to make it bigger. If it's huge, that's all good, cause the canon characters all have pretty massive hair if you consider their proportions. Many of their manes excede their ear tips in height.

[edit]

Just a side note also, for the hind legs and the mane reference. Mostly your hing legs seem a little bit off, though you're not too far off.

1z3qmjb.jpg

You have to kind of consider the structure of your own legs, where in the case of a pony, the knee is in the bottom, front of the rounded thigh portion. The heel is at the top of the lower leg, often resting very close with the hind end. You have to kind of think of the hoof as the toes, in comparison to human form.

As for the mane, I just kind of tossed in a rough Pinkie mane to show how going big can't hurt. Obviously, have an eye, if it doesn't look right to you, then try other things, be it size, or shape. Out of your 3 though, since you added one, I still think the first in the second batch is the best of the 3.

All that aside, the very last thing I think I can note is the eye size. You've made your eyes a little smaller, and more front positioned. Horses (and ponies) irl have the prey/herbivore design, where their eyes are on the sides of the head, not facing forward, though the cartoons kind of compensate that by making the eyes massive. I'd say if you went with your second of the three pics there, and took everything here, and poured all of this together with it, you'll have the design down in no time. :)

Thank you for the advice(again).   I read through this 3 times before I Posted this reply. what you said before about the way the head and neck connect at the back, i misunderstood it at the time.  I had never even thought about having the neck or body go back at an angel.  I always thought that the body was flat at the bottom aswell. I looked up a few mlp pictures and i see what you mean about the hair.

i like the tail design for the last 2 (i know they need to be more fluffy).  on the first one i like how i did the hair/mane but i need to figure out how to make it look better dropping down in front of the ear.

my current goal is to become good/confident enough to draw cannon characters and other peoples OC's, but right now i still dont know what my drawing is going to look like until i get the body drawn.

I thank you for your time and patience helping me.

P.S.  I wrote most of this post with the handwriting recognition input on my laptop.  It sucks.

EDIT:  thanks for the added info.   I think that the next somewhat warm day we have here(hopefully soon) ill go outside and look at one of my horses or one of the ponies and try to draw one of the mlp styled ponies.  also, all our horses are fat, thats where i got the rounded belly of the second one at.

I can take a picture of the 4 some day and post it up if you want. let me know. (that is under the assumption that one of the ponies doesnt die by then. at least 28 years old im thinking older tho.)
