Let me think... What do you think of the strong presence of spells in Equestria that more or less influence minds? There was a brony on youtube, cannedcream who made a video on the subject... Cadence using a love spell to "force" two arguing ponies to love each other, Twilight knowing and using at least three spells of this kind(one in "lesson zero", one on parasprites and one in "bats") or Fluttershy's stare are good examples. It seems that not only they are common, but it's ok to use them... So, what do you think?
