Octavia's Hall need a prefix for general writing

So, I thought about submitting some of my old stuff here. However, I noticed that there's only a prefix for fan-fiction, and none for general writing, which includes stuff such as poems, prose, and lyrics, which is the majority of my stuff written.

Could such a prefix be added to the Hall?

The purpose of Octavia's Hall is to be a home to pony fan labour. Non-pony works, while certainly something that there is some interest in around here, don't really belong there.

The best place to post non-pony material currently is in the Everfree Forest with some appropriate tags (like "poem", "prose", or "lyrics"). However, if there is enough demand, we may create a non-pony art section in addition to Octavia's Hall.

I see. At any case, I really think that section needs a tag for writing. Because not everything written of MLP is fan-fiction; it could very well be poems, prose, lyrics, or otherwise about MLP, all of which I've dwelled in before. Seeing only a fan-fic prefix in an art section, and nothing else for writing in general, strikes me as something very odd.

I agree with that, "fan fiction" is too restraining.

If you wanna submit an MLP fan poem or an article about MLP, there's no category for that. Putting the word among the tags unter the topic title is your only option, and that won't be as eye-catching as a colored prefix.

So I suggest replacing "fan fiction" with "writing", a more general name. Just as you put "music" rather than "song" (not all tunes have lyrics), and how you named a category "video" instead of "movie" (there can be PMVs or redubs).

Sorry for bumping such an old thread, but I have a feeling this is not being taken seriously enough. No comment on the NEW suggestions provided, not even a refusal.

I would say we need one. We are having a lot of poems recently and they are taking over the Everfree Forest. It would be nice if they were given their own place.

I apologize for not commenting on this earlier.

There are reasons for both the "fan fiction" prefix and the lack of a section for non-pony work.

The "Fan Fiction" prefix was chosen for SEO reasons, to help us gain more organic traffic for "pony fan fiction". For this reason, it will not be replaced. A general "writing" prefix was avoided until now to help keep the focus on fan fiction, which - let's face it - is what most people visiting the site looking for written pony stuff will be looking for.

There was no "proper" way to post non-pony work because in the forum's earlier days, we wanted to keep the focus on making MLP Forums a thriving hub of creative pony activity. Having a spot for non-pony art right from the beginning would have introduced the very real possibility of increasing the pony-to-non-pony art ratio to a frightening extreme (frightening for a new forum, anyway).

However, as we're a much larger forum now with a constant and consistent stream of creative pony works, we can now afford to broaden our focus a little and will be adding a section for non-pony work as a courtesy to our members.

Kurtiss will be making both of these additions soon (as I'm in Mexico and all right now). I hope that makes sense, and sorry again for not answering this properly earlier.

honestly i think it would be wise if a separate section for non-pony related art, poems, ect. is added but still lit could wait longer for it to be created because even though it is growing in popularity it will surely be filled with everything you could imagine and far overwhelm pony related art

the only other possibilities would be that everyone will be so obsessed with the pony related art that they will ignore it almost completely or it will be treated as a normal art page with about 2000 threads per comment, yes just like deviantart.com
