Any young atheists out there who live in religious households?

I've been an atheist for a long time but it's never been an issue because my parents were happy for me to believe in whatever I wanted and even though I go to a Catholic Sixth Form I've never run into any issues. If anything it's given me the opportunity to see why other people believe in religion and explain why I don't. It's allowed me to have an insight on religion from a sort of spectators' view. Plus, it's resulted in some great moral dilemma scenarios for me and my friends to discuss and debate because we don't all have the same opinion or morals which I personally love about my friends

Baaaaanter! :P

I'm not really living in a religious household any longer (having moved out), but I can at least sympathize with those who do. I was raised in a Jewish household, and despite being taught of the importance of having faith, prayer, following God's commandments, etc, I felt empty, without a true connection to God. I kept dissenting as I grew up, and... well, here I am.

As someone who's more in the agnostic category (I honestly don't care if there's a god or not, and I find it a little weird for people to say that there is or isn't one out right when neither side can prove it) I was raised in a home that subscribed to a religion, yet the only thing that I had to deal with worse was a private grade school and an hour of church each week (didn't care for it, but doing it for someone you care for, an hour isn't gonna kill ya). I've had friends who became atheist from various religions, but I've also see the exact opposite happen - Atheists becoming religious.

Now, I don't know the exact details for your situation - but as someone said earlier, keeping these feelings bottled up isn't going to end well. Start with a simple, innocent discussion talking with your folks on the subjects, let them know that you're questioning the religion (which is a natural thing to do as as teenager: Questioning the status quo). Be respectful to your folks and their beliefs when you talk to them about it, no need to add tension to an already serious situation that can be blown out of proportion.

Like I said, I don't know the exact details for your situation, I'm just going by what I've seen my friends do when they unsubscribed/subscribed to a religion and had to talk to their folks about it.

However, all the attempts of creating a purely secular society all lead to sanguinary dictatorships.

And ones built on religion tear themselves apart when a schism in the faith appears which is pretty much the middle east atm and what europe went though in the Dark Ages.

The main problem for an Athiest isn't God... in fact if you go by the circular logic most faiths use you could say God made them athiest. No. What drives the athiest is the manipulation of people by religion. Telling people they'll burn for being gay or something is the same as putting a gun to their head and saying they'll die. It is using Fear to control people, Fear is not faith.

Personally i like the idea of spiritually and belief in higher powers but I hate organised religions. If their is a God, he is facepalming so hard his hand has gone through his head and back to the beginning of time itself.

I'm 14 and atheist. i'm pretty sure of it. all of my family (from siblings to far off cousins) i bet is buddhis. i don't believe in god because. there's hardly any  pshycal proof that god exist. I Believe there's always an explanation on everything.Like how does the world made (I believe in the Big Bang Theory). How did they know that you will go to Hell/Heaven. How does doing good deeds will make you go to heaven. while doing bad things, will make you go to hell. How did they know that Hell or Heaven even does exist. or what happened to people who died. This just confuses me a lot. But there's a rule in Indonesia that all people must have one of the 6 religion.

Since I was 5 I've been an atheist. And I've always had religious relatives and friends. When I was 7 I lost every single one of my friends, because they were all christians, and they learned that I was an atheist. And whenever I attempted to speak to them, they treated me as if I were a satanist (I've learned that a lot of people believe that satanism and atheism are one in the same thing). I myself have learned to live through life on my own. Don't depend on emotions through friends or family, and stray away from socializing. And it works for me. Never been happier. But unless you're prepared for that lifestyle, I don't suggest being a loner.

Why did a person even think atheist, is a satanist. in fact, an atheist could even nicer than some religious person i know (met someone religious who is a jerk) example of a really nice person who is atheist is Pewdiepie (Don't Go Hate on my comment/raid my comment.) He Donated water for people  in africa. That's a really good thing to do.

totally agree with this. From my lesson on religions (School must have religion, all school have to teach it) they pretty much sums up. If u're being a jerk you will go to hell.if you're lying, you will be sinned, etc etc . tired of that. kinda motivated by fear not by faith that god does exist.this also one of the reason i stopped believing in god
