If Starlight Glimmer hadn't of intervened, Luna and Celestia would have failed to cooperate with each other on important matters in Royal Problem, and from where I'm sitting, unleashing the demon Daybreaker would be the last thing Equestria would have needed.

I have not seen this episode and cannot agree or disagree.

Family squabbles should never be left to chance, and before anyone acts high and mighty, cannot do wrong about this, these situations can happen to anyone, it does not matter how well "disciplined" or "competent" people think they are, people have their breaking points, and when people snap, there is a potential for something to go horribly wrong, sometimes violence is the result, this is why it is imperative to break up squabbles instead of letting individuals argue and belittle each other constantly. In every profession there needs to be staff on duty for security, the same is true for royalty.

If your breaking point is a single friend leaving you, then you have a problem. I acknowledge that people have breaking points, but Starlight deciding 'all cutie marks are evil, I'm going to go start a cult and hold ponies against their will!" is a severe overreaction, as I stated in my original post. Not to mention that Starlight continues to manipulate ponies after her 'reformation' and suffers zero consequences.

We don't have magic in real life but that does not matter, people did not even need magic in real life and they still get away with malfeasance on a regular basis, people who don't change even if they get pulled into the criminal justice system, sometimes wealthy and privileged individuals get nothing more than a criminal record for felonies, and are allowed to walk the streets. Yes, people who are more dangerous and manipulative than Starlight Glimmer. Compared to that, I'd take living in Equestria any day of the week if I could, but I cannot.

If a man holds up a bank, you ban him from having a gun. If a magic-user commits a crime with magic, especially a severe crime like literal brainwashingthey should be prevented from using magic or at least be kept under some kind of probation where they are supervised and blocked from practicing advanced/dangerous magic.

Starlight Glimmer is highly manipulative; she started a cult. Furthermore, just because there might be more evil people out there doesn't lessen her crimes or the damage they caused. Returning to the bank robbery example, if a different man robbed the same bank one day and beat up a security guard, this does not make the first criminal's offense less of a crime. Justice operates independently of others' actions: one person's crime does not determine the severity of the other's.

I'm not going to debate you over this, especially not here. I have stated my case, and I stand by it.

A common criminal who does armed robbery gets held up by police and ends up doing prison time if convicted in court of law, as they should be and often are, that's obvious, what I'm talking about is our two tiered system that allows convicted felons to be left off just because of their social status or favouritism, the double standards in our system is the problem.

At least in Equestria they tried to address this problem, even with their own set of flaws and inconsistencies along the way like in the case with Starlight Glimmer, who clearly did not have a smooth recovery like Princess Luna did, Nightmare Moon is no more, and while Luna can still use this transformation, she does not do so for the sake of aggression anymore, an eternal night had ecological implications for Equestria so it was in their best interest to put a stop to that, and they did. Starlight Glimmer on the other hoof, did not recover so quickly and her emotional problems persisted into the later seasons, in one episode if I recall, she killed Discord, before using her magic to restore him to life.

Magic or technology, who cares, they're both tools of destruction if left in the possession of the wrong people.
