critique wanted OC's from Bases?

So.. I'm aware I might receive some type of.. negative criticism from this, so I'm fully prepared.. However, I'm sure a lot of us here can relate to the struggles of drawing.. I'm not talented in drawing, however, I am talented in Photoshop, which is where these "bases" come in. 

 

When I created my OC, Morning Glory, I wanted her to have an air of elegance about her, and I made her via the Pony Maker, as most OC's tend to start out. 

 

 

I created her with Celetia's Mane, somewhat cliche, I'm aware x.x However, given I did this, I found it easier to find references, seeing as there is an abundance of fan art of Celestia. I'm not an artistic person as I previously mentioned, but I am skilled at photoshop.. So I started to take these arts, and photo manipulate them into my character.

So while I'm asking for nice critiques, I'm sure I'll get some negative feed back for "Stealing" other peoples artwork, and I hope nobody thinks that way, because I am not, nor have I ever, claimed this as my own. I've never even posted any of it until now.

I think using bases can be ok, so long as you make sure to 1. try your utmost to get permission from the original base artist. and 2. cite the source of the base if you post online.

 

Using bases can be a nice tool if your freehand skills are not strong (definitely applies to me). As a matter of fact, my avatar is a base! (i put the url on my youtube page)

 

Using bases becomes not ok when you try to pass it off as completely your own work (or worse, charge commissions). In academia, that's plagiarism, which can land you in BIG trouble.

 

So yeah, you still might get haters, but as long as you got permission and cited your source, you should be fine.

Talent: Waking "time" flowers. Like Moon Flowers which only bloom in the evening hours or Morning Glories that only bloom early morning.
