DashYoshi 9,565 February 1, 2016 Share February 1, 2016 This is quite a lovely sounding remix you made here. I love how the instrumentation sounds and the voice fits so nicely with the music. Great job on this remix and I hope to see more lovely remixes from you. ~ Created by @Princess Moony ~
catnet 9,356 February 2, 2016 Share February 2, 2016 Woah, you weren't kidding about this being an improvement o.o I remember listening to your original remix for the first time and being pretty impressed, but this is on an entirely new level! How long have you been working on this one for?
Courageous Thunder Dash 7,824 February 2, 2016 Share February 2, 2016 Ok. It's a decent remix. Watch your genre matching. In some parts of the song, it sounds like a dance song, which takes away from the sadness that this song evokes. The easiest way to genre match is to focus on percussive lines. The quarter kick is a part of the dance/house genres, so it took away from the emotion that the original song conveys. Kick can certainly be used in this song. However, you want to aim for a more R&B/Soul type of kick, a Toni Braxton type of kick. Also, for the 3rd beat of the measure, a snare rim shot would be much better than a solid clap. The high-hats in the beginning were very effective though. Ride bells and light ride cymbals would definitely work here as well. Also, watch your vocal placement at certain places. Some samples were a bit off and were easily noticeable. Kudos to changing notes in the actual vocal melody and retaining quality. In terms of the beginning, again, watch your genre matching. Perhaps the most effective remix genre for this piece is R&B/Soul. The violin intro reminded me of a remix of the same exact song, by a different user on this site, which I critiqued about a month ago. The "Oh why?" part is perhaps the most widely used section to improvise around. In terms of the sound of the violins, I'd remove the double octave violin and keep the lower one. If you want to add a second one, I'd harmonize it up a perfect 4th or a major 6th. Those plucked leads sounded a little too harsh. Soften them up a little and maybe have them perform small arpeggiated licks instead of going back and forth on 4ths in Bb major. Either way, those plucked leads need to be mellowed out. Also, why not add a warm pad or vocal pad. Even better, why not make a plucked pad, a nice and soft one. When it comes to pads, this song is the perfect song for using them. Your piano line started out well, but it staled out as the piece progressed. Instead of having continuous dotted quarter note chords, have some small arpeggios running on 32nd notes every now and then. Break up chords instead of blocking them. Blocked chords tend to stale out if they're present too much in the piece. All in all, this remix could use quite a bit of work...I'm here if you need any help in understanding any terms I mentioned. 3 Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeWg-TtBRMfqketa1ELyKGg Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/menelik-david-kenneth-cannady 2nd SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/thunder-dash-alternative/tracks Pony.fm: https://pony.fm/thunder-dash

Courageous Thunder Dash 7,824 February 3, 2016 Share February 3, 2016 It's certainly possible for house remixes of this song to work. Not really imho, it just takes away the original emotion of the piece. Plus, that percussive drive is awfully repetitive...and again, the "Oh why?" section is repeated more than any other section. Francis Vace 5 February 3, 2016 Share February 3, 2016 It's ...ok for a remix to reinterpret the original work. Do either of these remixes have the exact same feel emotionally as the original? Well, no. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. I personally don't see the point of making a remix or a cover if it's not bringing anything new to the song.
